We were vacationing from the states and my daughter's glasses' nose pads had decided to go elsewhere...she was beside herself because her glasses would be pretty painful to wear with wires poking one on either side of one's nose...and the little-bitty-partial bandaid worked, but it was not such a great solution. I looked on maps for opticians and here is where we came. We lucked out, the optical experts here were so helpful and cheerfully told us that they could definitely replace the little tiny pads! They replaced them so quickly and told us we should replace them when they get discolored. I asked how much we owed them, but the gentleman helping us said that there was no charge! I think we were floored! He said because they sell this brand, there was no charge. This is a heavenly country for sure!! as someone with anxiety who had avoided getting my eyes tested for over a decade the woman who did my eye test ( miss caitlin redden ) could not have been more supportive from being clear with her questions to giving me time to answer and even double checking with me , to even taking pauses during the actual eye test to let my anxiety calm down, due to her being so understanding and accomodating i feel much more confident to get any other eye tests in the future so my fellow anxiety / panic attack people , your good here read more

Two things led me to finally get my eyes checked out. The first, and one might reasonably assume most important, was certain episodes of blindness. The second, which was actually the trigger (don't judge me) was noticing a tendency to screw up my eyes very slightly when looking at my phone, and the realisation that, long term, this could give me WRINKLES. I'm now officially nearer to 30 than 20 so this is totally legit as a concern. Twenty Twenty, in addition to being pretty near my home, is a local name, so I had no hesitation in choosing them over a chain such as Boots or Specsavers. And I am so glad that I did. Abdel, my optometrist, was just about the nicest guy you could hope to have asking you to read tiny letters from the bottom row. Perky and super-friendly, he was also horrified when I asked if the soft forehead-cushion on the machine was latex (because I'm allergic) and he realised he didn't know. He vowed to find out and was very concerned for me, even when I said that my fringe would do a fine job of protecting me for now. He talked me through absolutely everything the eye test entailed as he did it; he obviously LOVES his job, and even treated my - perfectly routine and boring - answers like I had said something both profound and very correct. That was a lovely feeling for an approval-hungry praise-termite like me and dispelled all my anxiety about whether I was Doing It Right (I get that a lot). Once my prescription was diagnosed, I was passed on to the softly-spoken style guru, Philip, who padded calmly ahead of me and led me to the Wall of Wonder where all the frames were arrayed. This was the bit I was looking forward to. I mentioned my concerns about the roundness of my face and rather than flattering me truthlessly and flogging me the priciest pair regardless, he tactfully agreed and picked out a pair of frames that I loved right away. Understanding my girlish need to try on everything in the shop first, however, he led me along the wall and we chatted about the comparative merits of this or that pair (including a truly awesome pair of purple glittery ones which were so incredibly mental that had they been the right shape I'd have gone with them and to hell with easy accessorising), finishing with a selection of three. He wasn't afraid to tell me if a pair definitely didn't suit me, which was nice, and I didn't feel embarrassed about telling him my budget limit. When there was only one pair I preferred to the first pair I'd tried on, but I was concerned that the arms were too thin and flimsy, he toured the whole shop to try and find a similar but sturdier pair. No joy, but I appreciated it. And so (to Philip's evident professional satisfaction and pride) I went with the first pair he'd picked out for me. Apparently that happens a lot - bravo Philip! After shopping around all of Edinburgh for selection and prices I found this store to be the best. The staff were very friendly too but not in a insencere annoying in your face way, they just had a wee informal chat and gave their opinion on what suited me. ( I think it was Alison) My girlfriend also wanted to buy a small key for fixing her glasses but they just gave her it for free which was a nice touch. You can also pay up your glasses in installments which is great because they can be expensive can't they? I also took advantage of their £100 off a second pair. I waited less than a week to get my new glasses and when I phoned up to see if they were ready, a guy called Craig went out of his way to call the lab to see where they where and called me back to tell me. read more

I was visiting Edinburgh when my glasses broke. I took them to 2020 and although not an existing customer they made every effort to repair them while I waited. The attention and service I received was polite and professional. The following day I revisited for an eye test and took advantage of a buy a second pair at a reduced price offer. Two weeks later the new glasses have arrived, earlier than promised. The prescription and lenses are the best ever, and the frames are great. Thank you very much 2020 for providing an excellent end to end experience. Every promise was met You are now my opticians of choice although I live over 400 miles away. Morning David I have just left your Queen Street Edinburgh store and am actually feeling quite emotional from the kindness from 5 of your staff at this store. My 17 year old daughter who is autistic and suffering from depression had a meltdown yesterday and in the process snapped her glasses in 2 by mistake. I'd tried in vain to superglue them back together and had scheduled an appointment at our regular store in Gorgie for Saturday. This morning I took the broken pieces and Lauren into the Queen St store as it was en route as she couldn't see in the meantime. Claudia met us on arrival and was so kind and arranged an eye test within 10 minutes. When Lauren explained she gets stressed by change she found a very similar frame to broken glasses that Lauren chose - this normally takes 30 minutes of stress. Claire was incredibly calming and patient whilst testing her eyes. Lauren had a minor meltdown during this but she took it in her stride. Told Lauren she had "very cool eyes" and showed her a video about something that is unique to her vision. Billie then took over to place the rush order and asked Glen to see if he could do anything in the meantime with the broken pair. After trying to glue them (not successful) he astounded me by asking your lab technician Jason to cut down her original lenses to fit into a cheap frame he had. This was all done and she had her new temporary glasses within 1 hour of entering the store. I cannot thank any of them enough and hope that you find some way of passing on the praise that is due to them. I have never experienced kindness and service at this level. Lauren is very fragile at present and this could have had a huge impact on her. I will be taking to social media to try and do my bit for the team, but they are a credit to your company. Honestly, a very big disappointment.The optician was recommended by a friend of mine, as they had Oliver Peopels frames which I am a big fan of. Anyways, explanation of why I have given only 2 stars to this place: I had booked a sight test which went great. The optician was polite and explained everything very well. Took about 10 minutes and voila done! And I was very happy to hear that it was free as NHS cover a sight test every 2 years. Then they offered to also to try on some glasses. As I said I went there for Oliver Peoples, as I have had these frames before and I absolutely love them. The price of the frame did not surprise me, you pay for quality. However, when I asked if they had similar styles that are a bit more economical, they didn't even have one pair to show me! Also when it went to the actual lens prices my eyes nearly popped out. They were basically the same amount as the frames! So I left the opticians with the intention to sleep on it and come back the next morning. I was actually on the way there next morning as I figured I would not find a cheaper option anywhere else, but on the way there I popped into Specsavers on North Bridge. And surprise, surprise I found nearly the same model, but approximately 3x cheaper. So obviously I went for these! So I gave them the prescription I had gotten the day before in 20 20, but as they couldn't quite understand it they phoned up 20 20 to explain it to them. On the phone the receptionist (I'm guessing) had told the lady at Specsavers that I have to go to their opticians to "take care of my bill" Ehm, I was quite dumbstruck, as the optician had clearly said the day before that NHS would cover my eye test and I hadn't ordered anything. In any way, I felt absolutely embarrassed!!! After a quick chat it turned out that I didn't have to go back to settle no bills (doh), but they didn't even properly explain the prescription to the optician in Specsavers! I started going to Twenty Twenty after my usual optician spectacularly let me down. They were able to squeeze me in for an appointment with very little notice and were incredibly understanding of the situation I'd found myself in (I'm very short-sighted and I'd lost a contact lens and had no useable glasses, so was effectively housebound). The optician was professional and thoroughly examined my eyes: my sight was tested as well as my optical health. They provided me with two free pairs of trial contact lenses and did not pressure me into signing up to their lens scheme. They have a great range of glasses, including some really stylish budget pairs and a great sale section. They also stock some amazing retro pairs that look like they've come straight out of the 1950s. I've been with this opticians for a number of years and wouldnt go anywhere else. They provide some of the best accuracy and technologically up to date eye tests available and have always been willing to ensure my glasses are right for me at their expense, including changing the lenses if I want the prescription balanced differently. They also offer visual fields testing (if required) which saves me regular trips to the eye hospital and is much more convenient to monitor with an eye test. The worst experience I have ever had. Be aware of this business and I'm happy to share my experience with you. Staff breaks are more important and they lie to you to get more money out of you. They are owned by Duncan and Todd up North who seem to be just as bad!!!!!!!!! I have reported them to the British Optometrist Association!!!!! Branches in Easter Road, Gorgie Road and Glasgow and see Duncan and Todd's website. Case of too big too quick with no credible management in place.
