Centier Bank's New App: An Upgrade Nobody Asked For…read more I honestly don't know who at Centier thought this new mobile banking app was a good idea, but I have a few questions. Did anyone actually test this thing with real customers before rolling it out, or did someone just look at it in a meeting, say, "Looks modern!" and send it out into the world? Because from my perspective, this isn't an upgrade. It's a downgrade with a fresh coat of digital paint. Let's start with the login. I used to be able to log in with a PIN, which was quick, simple, and worked just fine. Now, Centier wants to push biometric authentication. Apparently, entering a PIN is too old fashioned, and I need to use my face or fingerprint to access my own money. Personally, I prefer having the option to use a PIN. Biometrics aren't automatically more secure in every situation, and there is a real legal distinction between being compelled to provide a biometric identifier and being compelled to disclose a memorized passcode. I'd like the choice to use a PIN without being forced into a system I didn't ask for. It's my money, not a top-secret government facility. Then there's the app itself. Features that used to be easy to find are now buried somewhere in a maze of menus. Apparently, the developers decided that if a customer can find a feature in under 30 seconds, it isn't hidden well enough. Maybe the next update will include a compass and a treasure map. And let's talk about bill payments. When I pay a bill, I expect the confirmation number to be provided right there when the payment is completed. You know, like a normal banking app. Instead, Centier has apparently decided that confirmation numbers should be treated like buried treasure. If I want proof of my payment, I have to go digging through the app to find it. Why make something so important harder to access? But here's one of the biggest problems I've personally encountered, and it's a pretty serious one. My wife and I have a shared account. When she pays a bill, I expect to be able to log into that same shared account and see the pending transaction. That's kind of the point of having a shared account, isn't it? We share the money, we share the bills, and we both need to know what's happening with our finances. Instead, I log in and can't see her pending transactions. So let me get this straight. My wife can make a payment from our shared account, but when I log in, I can't see that pending transaction reflected in what I'm looking at. How am I supposed to know how much money is actually available if transactions that have already been initiated aren't showing up? Am I supposed to call my wife every time I check our balance and ask for a financial status report? Should we start a shared spreadsheet? Maybe send smoke signals? A shared bank account shouldn't require a family meeting to figure out how much money is left in it. If money is committed to a pending payment, both account holders should have a clear picture of that activity. This isn't some fancy premium feature. It's basic financial visibility. Meanwhile, we're supposed to be grateful for bug fixes and performance updates. In other words, customers get to serve as the testing department while trying to manage their own money. I don't remember agreeing to participate in a beta testing program when I opened my account. Here's a thought for Centier: people don't use mobile banking because they enjoy navigating menus, wrestling with authentication, or hunting for confirmation numbers. We use it because we want to check our balances, see transactions, pay bills, and know where our money is going. That's it. That's the whole concept. A banking app should make managing money easier, not turn it into an episode of Survivor: Digital Banking Edition. An upgrade should improve functionality, not hide it, remove convenient options, or leave two people sharing an account looking at different pictures of their finances. Centier, please give customers the option to log in with a PIN, put important features where they're easy to find, provide payment confirmation numbers immediately, make pending transactions visible to both owners of a shared account, and make customer service available when things go wrong. These aren't unreasonable demands. They're basic expectations for a bank in 2026. Centier somehow managed to make checking my own money harder than earning it. And now, with a shared account, I apparently need my wife's permission to find out where some of it went. If this is the future of banking, I'd like to speak to the person in charge of the past. At least that one worked.

I was very impressed with Emmy (Teller). She provided some of best customer service that I've received lately. She acknowledged both myself and my wife as we entered. She was warm and friendly. Her smile and demeanor was relaxing and put both of us at ease. She was obviously trained well and it shows. Great customer service is rare nowadays. Please make sure that you reward this exceptional employee for her hard work. Your company is blessed to have such a outstanding individual working for them. She goes above and beyond in her performance. She's a valuable asset.

This branch is a joke. Their private bankers turn over every few months, I've scheduled meetings…read moreand then arrive to find out the banker hasn't even shown up that day. I walked in to an empty lobby today with two people who work there chatting with each other. Asked if I can open an account and was told "no can do" - they are too slammed and everyone is booked due to call offs. This is not even a request that requires an appointment. Pretty sure the guy with whom I spoke was a manager, he turned me away and then proceeded to stand around doing nothing. Seriously, there is no one in the bank and you can't open an account for me? Going to elevate this to someone who might possibly care at JPM/Chase. Abysmal customer service.
