Moved from LA to AL recently, was given a *government issued* paper ID until they mailed the card…read more Was back in LA taking care of some things and tried to use this legally valid ID to withdraw money at the drive-thru of this Kenner branch. I was informed by the teller that they do not accept paper copies of IDs. I explained to her that this was not a "copy", this was a *government issued paper ID complete with watermark, government header, etc.* but got nowhere. This paper ID is as valid as a card until I get it, legally. To my knowledge, the teller did not even take out the ID, she saw it through the tube, asked me if I had a hard copy, and simply told me that was not acceptable and sent it back while telling me to try the ATM. (FYI: Teller told me I could get $100s out of the ATM twice, so this caused me to get out of line to try the ATM, yet when I got there it only went up to $50s and it was inoperable. This was probably a ruse to get rid of me in the moment but I just got right back in line until the manager applied some common sense to the situation and did my small transaction). I was told by the manager after waiting for a bit and explaining the situation again that they were "making an exception." There was no exception to be made, the ID was valid based off of their own easily accessible I-9 listing acceptable forms of ID. https://www.regions.com/virtualDocuments/I9_AcceptableIdentification.pdf There is nothing on there about not accepting paper because that wouldn't make sense when governments within the region issue paper identification. I felt like I was taking crazy pills and being talked down to. I received assistance via "Contact Us" on the Regions website and my agent could find no such policy of them not accepting paper IDs (not saying it doesn't exist, but they couldn't find one). Compounding the issue, Regions is based in AL, and it would make zero sense that a regional bank would be so unaware of ID issuance within the region that they would make paper IDs a non-starter. As in: AL issuing a paper ID until they mail the card and then the paper ID not being acceptable at the bank. Such a policy would make it to where people who move within the region are just out of luck and forced to use the ATM until the government can get them their hard card. The employees at this branch knew good and well that not everywhere immediately issues a hard ID card, but chose to be difficult anyway. Excuses were made about LA and AL being different, but this is a regional bank and the standards should be the same. Some serious common sense re-training needs to occur with transactional employees, or at the very least, the employee who refused the transaction at this branch. The policies aren't what the branch and its employees want them to be for their own comfort, they are what they are and I never should have been delayed and questioned and made to feel stupid or like the bad guy. Absolutely nonsensical. You don't get to make your own rules. Formal complaint filed. Have to give 1 star, would receive 0 stars. Dissatisfied is an understatement.
