Visiting York pre-work event recently, my manager and I went for dinner and found ourselves at 1331. A bit of a strangle layout, with an empty bar downstairs and the restaurant up a few flights of stairs, it turned out to be a good night!
The menu is quite large but we went for some sharing plates - nachos, crudites with hummus and tapenade, and baked camembert with bread. We misjudged the portion size somewhat, leaving us with an extra table to hold the food, but managed to get through the majority of it...
Crudites were simple, and for circa £10, potentially slightly overpriced. However, it was nice to have the option of some simple vegetables (great when you're eating with a vegetarian!) The nachos were fairly simple, topped with all the usual suspects, but the camembert with the stand out, as cheese usually is; I wholly recommend ordering the crudites and the cheese as it forms another dipping option.
Washed down with plenty of wine, the food was good and service super friendly. The location made me feel slightly awkward - but perhaps that's my naivety at not knowing that it's known to be 'hidden'! read more
