They have several choices on the 3 pages of menus so it made it sort of difficult to pick my poison, so to speak. They bill themselves as modern Japanese. Not sure what that meant, but basically they play modern upbeat music and have a modern interior. They do have lunch specials during the week, but I didn't see many that were appealing as they're a combination of Chinese, Thai and Japanese dishes. They also had poke bowls for lunch, but I'm not so sure about that. Their sushi rolls appeared to be made mostly with cream cheese, which I'm not a big fan of in rolls, so those were out as well. I ended up ordering off of the dinner menu. I chose the grilled lamb chops and a side of steamed rice. I totally missed the 3rd menu which featured the sushi and specialty rolls. The lamb chops were ok, they did have a slight grilled flavor, but also another weird flavor like they weren't that fresh. Maybe customers don't order lamb chops here, as much as maybe they would at a fancy American or Mediterranean restaurant. Either way, I still ate them because I was hungry. I prefer the frenched rib chops better than the loin chop which is served here....since its a much tastier cut. In addition, it's usually more expensive. Overall, I don't see myself ever returning here since I'm also not in the area that much. Service was adequate as our drinks were refilled a couple of times and the waiter made sure to stop by and check on us.

At least 2-3 within eyesight scrambling on the bartenders receipts and the circling the heat from the music/video system all night. There's no way they weren't noticed by the staff as well. The service was okay, but the restaurant reeked of ammonia. The edamame tasted old/dry, the teriyaki salmon wasn't bad, the dumplings tasted good according to my husband but he ended up getting sick later. Not sure if it was the dumplings or just the thought of seeing cockroaches as we were trying to have dinner. The people working there were nice enough, but we won't ever come back.

When I first walked in, I thought I might be in the wrong place because it looked more like an Irish Pub than it did a Japanese restaurant. There is the first bar area and then you can go to the other side where the main dining area is. In the back they have an area for private larger group dining, as well. I decided to sit at the bar in the main dining area. The waitress was friendly and helpful in recommending some of their more popular dishes. I decided to start things off with a little seaweed salad. I was surprised with the portions. I've never had this much salad. It was fresh and delish! For my main course, I ordered the Mongolian filet and a few specialty sushi rolls my waitress recommended. Two of the rolls were good, but one was way too salty to eat. The Mongolian filet wasn't what I expected but it was ok. I was expecting the more traditional Mongolian brown sauce, but this didn't compare to any Mongolian sauce I've ever had. I eat a lot of Asian cuisine and I just felt it didn't taste that Asian to me. Having said that, the filet bites were well cooked and tender. Overall, I enjoyed my experience. I'd order the Dragon Maki roll again, but I would probably try some different items the next time I visit.

How come a ramen shop like this has such a cheap and delicious chashu bowl...?…read more Chicken Yuzu Shio Delight: Surprisingly, I couldn't taste the yuzu shio 柚子塩 at all; it was just like a regular chicken broth ramen, but the umami flavor wasn't particularly prominent. The thin noodles were chewy, but the chicken breast was a bit dry. The only highlight was the soft-boiled egg, even more runny than usual at ramen shops--"drinking" the yolk was pure bliss. Pork Chashu Bowl: The chashu was perfectly selected, with a good balance of fat and lean meat, cut into large cubes about 2cm square. It was savory with a hint of sweetness, fragrant but not greasy. The shiitake mushrooms 椎茸 and kikurage 木耳 added to the umami flavor, and the rice was perfectly separated, giving a very direct and simple satisfaction. You could tell it wasn't just an accessory to the ramen, but rather made with care. It would have been even better if the egg was as runny as the ramen!

Their ramen options seemed solid, so I was eager to try as I've seen many Jinya locations through the DMV. I came in this afternoon for lunch, and it was pretty empty with just a few patrons. I opted to sit at the bar, and the server was very personable and walked me through the menu and offered recommendations. He highly recommended the karage ramen, but I decided to go for the tried and true tonkotsu ramen. I always prefer this option, and I'm so glad I got it. Once it came out, it was so delicious and flavorful. I asked if it would be spicy, and the server brought out a spicy paste for me to add to the dish. There were several condiments in front of me to add as well, so I added their chili sauce and soy sauce. Not that the broth needed any extra because it was good on its own. I just like the extra layer of heat. The pork was tender and succulent, and the kikurge made the dish. It was the highlight of the dish for me. I wasn't a particular fan, though, of the crispy rice with tuna. I honestly could have done without it. Overall, staff was friendly and the ramen was great! I plan to return!
