Kita Modern Japanese - Seafood Charleston, WV

Everything had a great taste, I especially enjoyed the Unagi Nigiri. I had a great waiter, very nice and made sure we had everything we needed. The environment was nice as well, I felt very comfortable.

They have several choices on the 3 pages of menus so it made it sort of difficult to pick my poison, so to speak. They bill themselves as modern Japanese. Not sure what that meant, but basically they play modern upbeat music and have a modern interior. They do have lunch specials during the week, but I didn't see many that were appealing as they're a combination of Chinese, Thai and Japanese dishes. They also had poke bowls for lunch, but I'm not so sure about that. Their sushi rolls appeared to be made mostly with cream cheese, which I'm not a big fan of in rolls, so those were out as well. I ended up ordering off of the dinner menu. I chose the grilled lamb chops and a side of steamed rice. I totally missed the 3rd menu which featured the sushi and specialty rolls. The lamb chops were ok, they did have a slight grilled flavor, but also another weird flavor like they weren't that fresh. Maybe customers don't order lamb chops here, as much as maybe they would at a fancy American or Mediterranean restaurant. Either way, I still ate them because I was hungry. I prefer the frenched rib chops better than the loin chop which is served here....since its a much tastier cut. In addition, it's usually more expensive. Overall, I don't see myself ever returning here since I'm also not in the area that much. Service was adequate as our drinks were refilled a couple of times and the waiter made sure to stop by and check on us.

Ichiban Pan-Asian Cuisine - Fresh salmon teriyaki

At least 2-3 within eyesight scrambling on the bartenders receipts and the circling the heat from the music/video system all night. There's no way they weren't noticed by the staff as well. The service was okay, but the restaurant reeked of ammonia. The edamame tasted old/dry, the teriyaki salmon wasn't bad, the dumplings tasted good according to my husband but he ended up getting sick later. Not sure if it was the dumplings or just the thought of seeing cockroaches as we were trying to have dinner. The people working there were nice enough, but we won't ever come back.

When I first walked in, I thought I might be in the wrong place because it looked more like an Irish Pub than it did a Japanese restaurant. There is the first bar area and then you can go to the other side where the main dining area is. In the back they have an area for private larger group dining, as well. I decided to sit at the bar in the main dining area. The waitress was friendly and helpful in recommending some of their more popular dishes. I decided to start things off with a little seaweed salad. I was surprised with the portions. I've never had this much salad. It was fresh and delish! For my main course, I ordered the Mongolian filet and a few specialty sushi rolls my waitress recommended. Two of the rolls were good, but one was way too salty to eat. The Mongolian filet wasn't what I expected but it was ok. I was expecting the more traditional Mongolian brown sauce, but this didn't compare to any Mongolian sauce I've ever had. I eat a lot of Asian cuisine and I just felt it didn't taste that Asian to me. Having said that, the filet bites were well cooked and tender. Overall, I enjoyed my experience. I'd order the Dragon Maki roll again, but I would probably try some different items the next time I visit.

Welcome to Georgetown, JINYA!…read more We waited a bit after their grand opening, giving them time to work any kinks out. We decided to stop by for an early lunch, and it didn't disappoint! We started off with: +the Impossible Bun +the Crispy Chicken - aka karaage +and, the Spicy Creamy Shrimp Tempura - these were large-sized shrimp that were perfectly fried, and dressed with just enough of that nice creamy sauce without making it too overpowering; the shrimp was fresh and came out piping hot! For the ramen, we ordered: +the Wonton Chicken Ramen - the broth was creamy, noodles were cooked al dente, and there were generous amounts of chicken-filled wontons! +and, the JINYA Tonkotsu Black - with an added nitimago egg (which I stole from the hubs!; I am a fan of JINYA's nitimago egg, as it's so jammy and well-marinated!) Don't forget to ask for some hot sauce and paste to add to your broth and to dip the wontons in! Service was friendly and attentive, even with a packed room!
