My favorite thrift in the spot is the books. They are very reasonably priced and you can get quite a few or under a dollar, which is pretty impossible in a lot of other thrift stores. The staff here is friendly and helpful. They have a little boutique section in the front where they keep the newer clothing with tags, and more designer wise items. I do think some of their prices are on the higher end, which is disappointing when you're trying to get some affordable items. Clothing, however, it's usually reduced, so along with the books a good purchase. Not so much their purses, and some of their other accessories. It's worth a visit to search through their treasures and find some good thrifts. This is not my favorite thrift store, but it will be some of the goodwill prices in a pinch.

There are specifics of what they accept, so please be sure to check the website. We dropped off a few bags of gently used clothing and bedding/blankets. The people who work there were very friendly and appreciative of our donations. We were given a gentle reminder that they do not usually accept bedding/pillows, but, our stuff was in great condition, thus it was happily accepted. Great place to donate for a good cause!

As far as I know, it is the only place in San Antonio , outside of the Universities and colleges , that consistently offers open drawing sessions in a professional studio, using live figure models. It even has open session for portraits on Friday mornings, using live models. Additionally it offers adult classes in oil painting, for beginners, intermediate, and more advanced painters. It has classes for children through its "Coppini Kids" program, and a "master class" in drawing for kids 11 - 17. As if this isn't enough, it offers workshops for members and the public, taught by popular and world-class artists who come in from across the country. If an artist is focused on representational art, the Coppini is a great place to investigate!

Years ago I used to have a job where I needed to wear suits and professional attire on a daily basis. For years I kept those suits and dresses thinking I was probably going to need them again in the near future. Well after five years of just storing them and never wearing them I decided to donate them at Dress for Success. Why I chose this nonprofit? Because I know that the clothes I donate will go to someone that actually needs it and will make good use of it. The donation process was super easy. They take donations Monday to Friday from 9:00am - 12:30pm, except for the first week of the month. When you arrive to the building, you need to head to the back area where you will see a gate. A staff member will let you in and will pick-up all your donations. If you need a donation receipt for your taxes they can also provide that for you. I am so happy that I was able to support this amazing organization and I appreciate all the work they do to empower women!

Regarding the "jobs", they offer a variety, from filling boxes, to restocking the items being filled, making boxes, & sealing boxes. All the staff & regular volunteers were freindly and encouraging. The facility is clean, well lit, and temp controlled. I also liked the transparency of letting volunteers know hkw much work was done and where the current work is headed.

This is a 12-16 wk course taught by Texas A & M agri life extension office. They operate in…read moreconjunction with San Antonio Botanical gardens. They offer this class twice a year. It always fills up & always has a waitlist. You must apply only twice a year between Jan- Feb for spring session & Aug- sept for fall. The cost is roughly $220 & includes materials.At the end of the semester & after completed volunteer hours, you will attain certification as a master gardener. I have been going three weeks so far & out of the 3 speakers, 2 have been very beneficial. Mostly taught by professors or past aggies working in the fields. Very knowledgeable people. You are given a manual with chapters that coordinate w/ syllabus. You are required to perform 50hrs of volunteer work to be completed within a year of graduation to fulfill certification requirements. Most of those hours are done in the dirt :) Refer to the picture I added, for an idea of the topics, hours & syllabus. The community of master gardeners has been very welcoming, even if I am the youngest by maybe 15 years. They also pair interns with a mentor. I think this is an incredible value at $220 & a great service to the community. Happy & excited to be intern.

These folks show up at all kinds of gardening shows, the Folklife Fest, farmers markets, Fiesta events, and other hip places around town to be. They show off their skills with their plants- they sometimes sell plants that they've expertly grown. They're really at these events to answer questions about your plants, and help you grow. They've been at SAWS events advocating how to grow butterfly friendly shrubs, or teaching people how xeriscaping can reduce water consumption. In all, they're really not there to sell you on things, they're there to help you grow your garden! I've approached them with pictures of bugs on my phone that have been causing problems, and they came up with the bug species, and how to get rid of them easily (A lil' soapy water! Who'd of thunk it?!) I've never tried to get educated to the level of these guys. They're horticultural black belts, as far as I'm concerned. Kudos to Bexar County Master Gardeners!
