Normally when driving along the 401 we tend to stick to the super convenient new EnRoute service centres, and settle for generic fast food. On our most recent trip we attempted to stop at a service centre but couldn't even find a place to park, so we got back on the highway and decided to stop at the next exit, because we were tired and hungry. Cue the clouds parting and the angels singing, because we really lucked out! This is a truck stop, but everyone is welcome. The food is sit down dinner standards, burgers and sandwiches and the like. They've got daily specials. The fries are "real" fries, not some reheated from the freezer fries. If you don't feel like fries you can sub salad or a soup. The waitresses are friendly and efficient. They bring you the bill and you pay at the cashier in the adjacent store. I love it, no waiting around! If I could I would give it a solid 4.5. Everything is great except the bathrooms (at least the women's!). They could definitely use a freshening up, which is surprising considering the rest of the place seems super well maintained. Perhaps women don't form the core of the business? Normally I could care less about bathrooms, but considering this is a truck stop, its pretty important. So not the end of the world, but reason to not award 5 stars. Overall I really enjoyed 10acre and would not hesitate to stop again. read more

Thanks to Kent M. for a very complete description of the services at this well-thought-out truck services place and restaurant. So I will leave that part and concentrate on the restaurant. Nice waitresses, dressed rather oddly in skin-tight party-type dresses and casual clothing with not a pocket among them. Efficient and friendly service, though not usually fast if there are a few customers to be served. Start a conversation with a trucker if you like, they are friendly too and may enjoy chatting. I have never had a bad meal there, everything is borderline yummy. Not even I can handle the large portions sometimes, so I get a doggy bag. Even though I don't have a dog. And the cat doesn't like leftovers. Okay, so I eat it the next day and it is still good. The food is like home cooking, freshly battered fish, fresh-cut fries (I think), real mashed potatoes, perfect coleslaw. I could go on but you get the idea. Soup is always good and sometimes amazing. An enjoyable and inexpensive restaurant. Average meal would be $10-$12. There are several specials which may include soup or a drink. Definitely one of my favourite places to eat. Oh, and the only restaurant where I have ever seen sheets (bedding) for trucks sold in the lobby. read more

This truck stop is a hidden gem in eastern Ontario. I have been going there since college back in the late 80's. It underwent a huge facelift several years ago and is still quite modern even by today's standards. I have never had a bad meal ever at this restaurant. They follow directions to a "t".... if you want well done or extra sauce or heavy this or that...it's always perfect. I was deeply saddened when they pulled corned beef hash off of the menu and it was phenomenal. Everything from burger to Turkey club to soups. There is not a single item that you can go wrong with. Highly recommended! Exceptional prices and fast service. The bathroom are a bit grungy but I am willing to over look this. read more
