Previously, the bus stop was located right by the Memorial Union. Although that was a central location, it wasn't the most accessible or efficient. It was harder to find, lacked parking spots, and you couldn't stand indoors and be able to see an incoming bus. This new bus station addresses all these previous issues. First of all, it's located in Campustown. Right before or after boarding a bus, it's easy to quickly grab a bite to eat. The facilities are very clean and safe compared to other bus stations. There's seating indoors so that you can sit while waiting for the bus to arrive. It's well lit up at night, so that are no worries about safety.

I took the bus from Kansas City, MO to Ames, IA at 1:30 am arrived at 6:26 am, just 6 minutes behind. Definitely arrive there 30 minutes prior, since they load up the bus pretty early and leaves about 2 minutes early and the bus driver was pretty nice.

I have a TBI, so being able to get to and from work, the gym, social engagements, it is a HUGE blessing. My only complaint is that they, very sadly, did away with the bus 50. I work and live on that route, so them taking it has affected me, and SO many others. We have quite a bit of mothers with children, elderly, handicapped, and houseless individuals, that used it to get to, not only MY job, but to the mall, to JOPPA, The DMV, homeless advocacy resources, the food pantry, DHS office, WIC, the list is endless, and it was a VERY needed and VERY used line,so I truly hope they bring it back. But in the meantime, we are all making it work, as best as we can. The depot is clean, they really monitor it. The drivers make me feel safe and secure, and the front desk staff are ALWAYS helpful. Again, after well over 2 years, I finally asked if someone could assist me, to teach me how to use the app the way it was intended, and Stephanie came to the rescue. She explained to me what I need to do, the best way to utilize it, and how I can go about getting my pass in order next month. Thank you DART, Stephanie, and all the rest of your staff. I used DART for the Park & Ride to the Iowa State Fair this year. From the 7th and Center ramp to the state fairgrounds. Buying a ticket was easy. The $2 price ($1 if you use the DART app) for a round trip was more than reasonable. Usually I fight traffic, battle for finding a lot space, and pay a premium for parking... I'll never do that again. DART made it so simple. The buses were clean. The staff was polite and easy to work with. And I got dropped off and picked up right from the gate... You just can't ask for better than that!

However, the train trip was a disaster. 1. Our car (632) never loaded any water so the first night we had to use the toilets and showers in another car. 2. We were told we could bring four bags. We only brought two. The steward brought us one and said we had to keep it in our room as they had no place for it. 3. We wanted to ask a question so we rang our bell- the steward (Jose) came an hour later. 4. When we were ready to go to bed we rang for the steward to make the beds and he came to the door and said "get out". I said "oh you want us out of the room?" He said yes. Get out. 5. I expected the food to be pretty good. It was not great. The pasta was cold and hard. 6. The train was very rough. The beds were hard. Very hard. I have had smoother rides on a wooden roller coaster. It was almost impossible to sleep and getting into the top bunk was very difficult. 7. We asked for dry towels on the second day and the steward indicated we just needed to hang up the current towels. There is no room to hang up towels in these rooms. 6 the waitress in the dining g car indicated she was looking for another job. Jose was very rude. The employees are clearly not happy and it shows. 7 the temperature in the rooms could not be controlled. We went from hot to very hot to very cold regularly. 8. There was a damp sewer smell constantly in the cars. Not just ours. It needs a better "airing" out. 9. The ceiling tile over my bung came unscrewed and the tile fell. I jade to replace it and screw it in myself. My love affair with trains has ended. Amtrak killed it.

This time around, my Dad and I were on a road trip and stopped here to take another look. CONS - This is an unattended station, which means you need to have purchased your ticket in advance and that there's no provision for checked baggage. No information is available on when the California Zephyr actually stops here (in either direction). PRO - Impressive restored historic train station, both inside and out. It's well worth your effort to park and wander around. - Plenty of parking. Refer to Amtrak for long-term options.
