The play was amazing, and I'd highly recommend seeing it if you get the opportunity. Big thanks to Michael K. for alerting us to the show, which we otherwise wouldn't have known about. Parking was easy and cheap, $5 for a matinee show (apparently $8 for evening). We cut it close and arrived just a few minutes before the 2:00 start time, but we were apparently in good company and got to our seats well before curtain. We were stopped just outside the theater by a group of IATSE protestors, who handed out flyers asking patrons to pressure management to give the Wallis crew a fair contract. According to this flyer (and I can't find anything else about this online), the Wallis has been bargaining with the union for six months and pays crew below standard wages for Los Angeles County. If anyone at Wallis is reading this Yelp review, consider it my email in support of the union. You're a theater named for a billionaire heiress. Pay your people. The theater was nice and the production was fantastic. Our seats were in the mezzanine, and we had a great view of the stage. Loved the set design, which involved a single classroom structure on a rotating platform. The performances were amazing, as was everything else that went into the production. I hope the Wallis does right by its crew so they can keep putting on top notch theater. I get their emails now and have not yet unsubscribed, as I'd like to know what other shows they have in the pipeline.

A hidden gem. Let's jump right into this review…read more The Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles is a renowned, non-profit theater known for intimate productions of classic and contemporary plays, new works, and educational programs. Two main spaces, the 500-seat Gil Cates Theater and the smaller Audrey Skirball-Kenis Theater. My son and I attended a play - Table 17 and sat in the balcony box of the Gil Cates Theater. Box seats $139pp Pros 1. Very nice venue. An intimate space with every seat being a good seat. Great acoustics also. 2. Bathrooms are clean and grounds are well-kept. 3. Small bar area that sells food items and drink, including alcohol. 4. Patio area and seating in the lobby if you arrive early. Doors usually open 1 hour before showtime. Theater doors open 30 minutes before curtain time. Cons 1. Parking can be a challenge but not impossible. Metered street parking. Use the text to pay function because you can add additional time from your phone and receive reminders via text when your time is about to expire. There are also paid parking lots within walking distance. Prices will vary. I was impressed with Geffen Playhouse and will definitely be back. BTW - Table 17 was an amazing play - funny, thought provoking, and an attention grabber.

Great refreshment choices. Parking can be tricky, you can park in the garage next door for pay, or street parking for pay (depending on the hours of the day & day of the week), or you can park in neighborhood street parking (free) couple blocks away. The venue is close by market with food vendors or nearby restaurants and museum. Really enjoy every time I'm here seeing a play.

To be totally honest - it should/could have been great - but it really was not!…read more The good things: The theatre itself is magnificent with a century old history. Ample nearby parking about one block away for $10. The line to buy soda and potato chips (by the men's room side upstairs) was short. But the line for alcohol and more food choices was so long (women's restroom side but looping around the place) that you couldn't even get close enough to see your options (25 minutes before the show). The bad things (really bad) unless you get a seat very close to the stage): From our seats ("front balcony" center row J - and there were about 500 people behind us!!) we were so far away that we could barely see a thing. Certainly you could see faces let alone expressions. And a magician that you can't see!? Really?? There are solutions for this - eg in Londons West End) there are binoculars for lease on every other seat. OR you can have cameras installed (Saban have) and then project on to the huge screen above the acts. In pics you can see that they have indeed done just that!! But not last night since the big screen just showed Netflix ad and charity logo. Very sad for the audience From our seats it was only possible to hear about 50% of the comedy routines - even with my AirPods at max volume - and Mrs G's hearing is perfect and she had the same experience. So yup it was kinda good, the theatre architecture great. Was it really good? No. Was it worth the price. No? Would we go again - only if we could seats VERY close to the stage or be assured that it will be projected on the big screen. Otherwise (sadly) no...

Not necessarily easy to find at first but I'm glad I was aware then there were signs too. The theater is pretty small with three rows in front then sitting on both sides. Perhaps a capacity of 100? Very intimate. Not sure how the view is from the sides however. I loved the play. A series of 6 plays is around $235 which is very reasonable. I'll definitely come back! The restrooms are ancient with doors that are wayyy too small, but I guess it's common for a school? "Becky's New Car" had the best cast and everyone was a seasoned actor with a long list of previous plays and TV shows they've been in. There were parts I couldn't stop laughing, and enjoyed the play so much. I've invited 6 friends to return in July for their next one, which sounds even funnier. If my SUV could fit more people I would have asked more friends to join us. Parking was so easy, subterranean, safe and you walk right into the building from their underground garage. David the Managing Director was so personable and inviting, he seemed to know a lot of the attendees by name as regulars. I could hardly wait to see their next play, "A Jukebox for the Algonquin" and I have no doubt it too will be terrific! Great evening & a fun time.
