We were expecting omakase sushi and found this place underwhelming. There's very little fish in the set menu, mostly and vegetable dishes. We decided to order a la carte, which I think was the right decision for us. The dishes were decent, interesting, nothing to write home about and I probably wouldn't come back here again. It was fine dining but without an impact for me.

Unbelievably amazing restaurant. We did the Menu Experiencia chef tasting. Each course was perfection. I included most courses in the pics. They have 2 seatings, 1830 and 2130. Make a reservation. The host and the chef are very friendly and do a great job presenting and explaining each course. This may be one of the best restaurants you ever visit. Only negative is that the seats are uncomfortable for 3 hours

Make reservations immediately. (Not that it was impossible to make during our stay - but simply so you don't miss out!) Everything about this restaurant was perfection! Professional service, the atmosphere, the wine selection, and the quality of food was outstanding. I have traveled all over the world, and I'm still dreaming about this meal.

We traveled to Sao Miguel for our honeymoon and this was by far the best meal we had. We did the 7 course tasting menu and each course was enthusiastically explained to us. The staff members were extremely courteous and friendly and seemed genuinely excited to work there. The kitchen is open in a way that you can watch them prep your courses which was interesting. Every course was delicious but we especially loved the ceviche. This restaurant takes from Peruvian, Japanese, and Azorean cuisine and it was a dream. The dessert course was the creamiest cheesecake I had ever had paired with the most tart sorbet I had ever had. The menu changes regularly to reflect seasons but it is definitely worth getting a reservation.

Felt compelled to leave a review, it's been three weeks since we have been here and we all unanimously agree this restaurant was the best one in our entire trip to Portugal and Spain. The food, the service, the wine were all would fly back to the Azores just for another meal here; make sure to do chefs tasting special and the Giz wine. Deliciousness.'

We came here on a Tuesday and ordered the 25 euro "discovery" menu which consists of 7 courses (horse mackerel nigiri, salmon sashimi, Azorean white fish ceviche, fried eggplant, mixed salad, chicken karaage, and chocolate lava cake with matcha ice cream). Hits: 1. The Azorean white fish ceviche with the sweet potato sauce was a unique and unexpected blend of flavours. 2. The chocolate lava cake was delicious, served with a hot and rich center. Misses: 1. The majority of our time at the restaurant was spent waiting between dishes (average of 10 min waiting between dishes). 2. We were charged 2.5 euros for each REFILL of tap water, never have we been charged so excessively for tap water on the island. 3. The mixed greens dish was literally a plate of boxed spring salad mix dresses with yuzu sauce. For a proclaimed "high end" restaurant, one would expect more effort. 4. The ice cream for dessert was melting as it was being served. My two cents: If you are travelling on the island and looking for a nice dinner, stick to the local Portuguese restaurants and skip out on this one.

Otaka was awesome. They have three tables outside which were first come first serve and we waited about half an hour (would definitely recommend booking in advance as you can't put your name down and go for a walk). Looking for vegetarian options in Sao Miguel seems to be a challenge but Otaka was great. The misu glazed eggplant was amazing! They were out of tofu but made the vegetarian dish with shiitake tempura and noodles which worked well. Cocktail was great and service was good too (although they were very busy). Highly recommend.

Excellent restaurant in the heart of Ponta Delgada. My husband and I went for dinner while visiting and were not disappointed. We opted for the tasting menu (40 Euros) and loved each dish. Our server recommended an excellent bottle of local wine that complimented each dish. I strongly recommend making a reservation as the restaurant is not very big.

I'm so glad we got to try Otaka for lunch and dinner on our last day in the Azores. Otaka serves a elevated Japanese Peruvian fusion cuisine. For lunch we tried a fish crudo, fish taco, ribs, and lomo saltado. All very tasty but my favorite was the lomo saltado. It did not come with fries like I've had at other peruvian restaurants in the states, but it was good with a side of rice to soak up the yummy sauce. For dinner, we tried the 10 course tasting menu. Each of the courses were beautiful pieces of art with unique complex flavors. It was truly a tasting menu, so I would suggest eating something before the tasting menu so you aren't starving and can truly enjoy each dish. The cod and the wagyu beef were definitly the star courses. There are 2 seatings, 6:30 and 9:30 so make sure you make a reservation. read more
Good food, a lovely atmosphere, and attentive service. We chose the local tasting menu, which offered a nice variety of dishes. Unfortunately, there was a hair in one of my courses. The staff handled it professionally by apologizing promptly and replacing the dishes, but it was still disappointing, especially for what was meant to be a special birthday dinner. We were served an extra chocolate dessert to celebrate. Overall, the meal was enjoyable and decently executed, though none of the dishes particularly stood out or felt especially memorable. It's also definitely on the pricier side compared to other tasting menu experiences I've had. read more
Loved this high-quality dining during my bday trip! Something I felt I would find in a big city like New York or London. So to be on this tiny island was absolutely perfection. We did the large coursed menu. So many amazing options and bites. Tried things I'd never had before. Each bite was full of flavor and gave us lots of dynamism. I would highly recommend this elevated. It came recommended by two locals working at other great restaurants, so we knew were having something really special when we came here. read more

Everything was wonderful! Service was fantastic. We had potato cakes with guac & jalapeños, the pork ribs, & lomo saltado. Very generous pour of red wine. Definitely recommend! read more

Chef José Pereira did a masterful job at this Nikkei (Japanese-Peruvian fusion) restaurant. Some dishes are very unique and just sublime on taste. The mains in the 10-course menu (cod or wagyu beef) a bit less so. Very good Açores wines - quite mineral. read more

Very high quality food, professional and friendly service, and lovely ambience. We had the shrimp tempura, crispy tuna tartare, azores steak, stingray, and chicken tatsuta-age, and creme brulee cheesecake and everything was delicious. read more

Definitely a good one to skip.. Took an hour and a half to get teriyaki chicken with a reservation. The chicken was decent at best, and could easily be beaten by any food court. The prices are double any other restaurant in ponta delgata but the service and food did don't warrant the price or the wait. read more

Delicious meal. 4 critical New Yorkers were all thrilled with the meal. Incredibly fresh fish, great flavors, beautiful presentation and a great value (relative to NYC, for sure). Wines won't blow you away, but doesn't take away from meal at all. read more

Brilliant flavors and stellar service, Õtaka elevates local ingredients to shine even brighter.

The atmosphere and service were wonderful but the food was meh. I don't do foam or other pretensions. Go to Copenhagen for this type of cuisine! read more

Awesome meal. The 9 course tasting menu was several more with chocolate truffles at the end Ned an muse bounce first. All fro 65€. And an awesome bottle of wine for 20€. This meal would be hundreds most other places in the world. I went back 4 times and would happily recommend this for anyone visiting Sao Miguel. The service is awesome, the chef is accessible to ask questions. Truly a winner! read more

No need to stop by this place on your vacation to Ponta Delgada. Feel free to spend a whole lot of money for not a lot of food. Don't order the tasting menu! The waiters don't seem to understand their own menu. Interior chairs look comfortable but they're definitely not. read more
This restaurant is completely worth the hype. Delicious food, amazing service, great wine list- honestly one of the best meals I have ever had. We had the 45€ tasting menu and it was perfect. Eight courses which were clearly well thought out and perfectly executed. The salads were fresh and interesting, the tatakis each had a different flavor profile to complement each other and the "main" dish which was white fish was possibly the best dish I have ever had. It was honey wasabi perfection that melted in your mouth. The server were attentive without being overbearing and each course came out quickly. This is a must try when in Ponta Delgada read more

If you're willing to splurge a little (still reasonable prices but a bit higher than other restaurants we went to) this place is great for refined Japanese cuisine. Really terrific food and great modern feel to the restaurant. Would highly recommend for anyone wanting to have a classy night out with great sushi and other Japanese options. read more

Over priced mediocre food. They charge you for tap water and extra for each refill! Over-rated on Google. Don't be fooled.

I'm surprised by the 3.5 stars, but I guess there aren't too many reviews to base that off. My husband and I visited Otaka while on our honeymoon and we both thought the whole experience was phenomenal! We did the tasting menu and the food was absolutely delicious. I definitely think it's worth the price since we'd be paying a lot more for something similar in Toronto. The fish was super fresh and the time between meals for us was perfect. Our favourite was the main steak dish. Unfortunately, I don't have a picture since we devoured it! We visited São Miguel and Madeira during that trip and we both thought this was one of the best meals we had. read more
