This indoor-outdoor, upscale casual eatery is the kind of neighborhood spot you could frequent on the regular. The food: Is nouveau Brazilian a thing? Well, bra.do does a number of fine dishes that offer a twist on the more traditional plates. I particularly like the peixe korma (tender bits of white fish in a yellow korma sauce and matched with white rice). The bravas potatoes and the bruschetta is great as a starter and the mushroom risotto is good, but rich! So far, I haven't been disappointed with a meal here. It's not vegetarian but they do have a section on the menu for veggie-friendly dishes. The drinks: Full menu of cocktails, beer and wine. When I order wine, I simply ask for the white or red and whatever their house pour is is really good -- especially the red. My guess would be a Malbec or Cab Sauv. The service: Simply the friendliest and most welcoming restaurant in the neighborhood... nay, in the city. Our favorite waiter is Gaspar, but there's also the sweet sweet lady waitress who always dotes on Hanky Bobby. No matter who takes care of us, one thing is for sure: Hanky Bobby gets 2 bowls -- one filled with water and another filled with treats! Dog friendly: Dogs are graciously welcomed to dine outside in the front patio. And like I mentioned, they get their own meals free of charge :) The restaurant is a friend of Fido and so is the staff, prepare to be warmly met when you show up with your pup. Our favorite restaurant in the neighborhood. They often have live music on weekends too!

The staff is very friendly and they can usually accommodate dietary requests of vegans and gluten free diners without a problem, as their meals are simple and freshly made. It's particularly great for lunch or on Thursday evenings when jazz music is played on the terrace. Enjoy the free filtered water in cute glass bottles, as non bottled water is a rarity in this city.

It couldn't possibly get any better than our Saturday afternoon spent at Porto Madalena. Perfectly…read morelocated on a busy Vila Madalena street, this boteco offered great ambiance, amazing live music, awesome food, and cold beer. Frankly, this is as good as a Saturday afternoon can get. We walked here from Pinheiros and took Rua Fradique Coutinho all the way up (a well-trafficked street with lots pedestrian and automobile action). The intersection of Fradique and Rua Aspicuelta seems to be the premier crossroads to find the heartbeat of Vila Madalena (retail boutiques and restaurants/bars line R Aspicuelta and R Fradique). We decided to go with Porto Madalena because of the feijoada sign out front - Saturday is feijoada day in Brazil, after all. We were seated right away and took in the ambiance. A beautiful Brazilian singer on guitar cooed bossa nova classics, nearby tables clinked beer cups and chatted away, and the intoxicating smell of feijoada piqued our hunger. Service was sweet and cordial and the meal was fantastic (but bad feijoada doesn't really seem to exist in Brazil). We ordered a beer (a large bottle of Original) and the waiter arrived with a ice bucket filled with 3 bottles. You're likely to have another bottle after your first and I LOVE the tradition of pouring your beer in little glass cups (this is so the beer never gets warm!) This is the kind of spot I'd bring visiting friends to. It offers a great laid-back vibe and excellent energy.
