I stopped by Thai Lisu in Hampton, VA on a whim for lunch. It's tucked inside the Walmart near the Hampton Convention Center, super convenient and within walking distance if you're at the convention hall/coliseum.
The prices are very reasonable (most dishes are around $11-$15), and while seating is limited, the food is packed to-go and worth it. You can tell it's the real deal when you see the whole family working together behind the counter on a busy Saturday afternoon, it gives the place a genuine, homey vibe.
I ordered the Fried Rice with Pork and the Pad See Ew with Chicken. They let you choose your spice level from 1 to 5; I went with a 4 for the fried rice and a 2 for the Pad See Ew, perfect for my palate. Both dishes were flavorful, well-balanced, and comforting. The portions are generous, definitely enough for leftovers.
They also have grocery-style sushi available, though I didn't try it this time.
Definitely a pleasant surprise for a quick food option in a Wal-Mart. read more
