I was on my way to the airport and I saw the sign for this cafeteria and decided to get a quick snack.
I ordered a pineapple juice, 3 croquetas and 2 empanadas de carne. I bit into the empanada first, while the crust was pleasant the stuffing inside was overwhelmed with a tobasco like flavoring. It was not spicy at all but that vinegar like taste was a bit unbareable. I've had my fair share of empanadas in my time here in Miami, but I have never tasted one with a flavor that strong.
The croquetas tasted good and were fresh out of the oil. I felt the ham puree on the inside was a little too smooth, I like it when I can taste tiny chunks of ham when I eat croquetas.
The pineapple drink was prepared with raw pineapple. It contained lots of pulp which added to the texture of the drink. The drink overall was refreshing and a little sweet.
Based on my brief experience here I thought they could have made a better empanada. The prices were very good, I would say that this is a very average Cuban cafeteria style restaurant. Maybe my experience will change with a second visit while trying different items. read more
