Jacks has had quite the presence on social media, so it's been on my radar for quite some time. Its a bit out of the way for me but I finally managed to hit it up. Pro tip, if u register your email on their website you can receive a free chowder with $15 purchase. I took advantage of this and had chowder with my 1 piece fish and chips. Lets start with the chowder. It's thick, almost holds the spoon up! It's also overly salted, and is just ok tasting. Its missing something that I just can't put my finger on. The piece of Cod is long and a little too thin. The technique for the batter seems on point, and it's super crispy. However, the flavor just comes up short. They are trying real hard, tho. Its also a whiff on the tarter sauce, a key component of any fish and chips. The curry coleslaw tries SUPER hard, but again, doesn't come together well. Lots of competing ideas and flavours in that dish. Overall, Jack's is a good concept and run well. Its just missing a little something...oh wait, I know what it is. Its doing so much well - marketing, service and concept. They just missing talent in the kitchen. Jacks doesn't have the magic. Note. Yelp hours for this restaurant are not correct.
