In a world where even a high curb seems to have a safety railing these days, the trail up to Fox Point is not for the timid, the wobbly, or those of us who get feelings of vertigo when we find ourselves standing over a 200' cliff looking straight down at the water. 'Cuz honey, there ain't no railings between you and disaster. But if you're willing to brave the heights (and a pretty darned steep incline on part of the trail) the trip is worth the risk, especially at sunset as you're treated to a 180 degree view over the spectacular San Juan Islands from one of the highest points around. Across the channel you see the sparkling lights of Eastsound on Orcas Island, and you'll probably catch sight a plane or two landing at the airport there. Further on are Waldron, Jones, San Juan, and multiple other islands large and small. And, of course, between you and them you'll see any number of boats streaming past. One of the things that most impressed me about the view from Fox Point was how clear the water was down below. I could see to the bottom of the sea - it was magical.
