I stumbled upon the Surrey Diner--a small, hole-in-the-wall gem just off the interstate behind a gas station--and this quaint little diner packs a punch! They've got a fryer, flat top, and grill--old-school diner essentials. I had a burger and fries, and it was exactly what you'd hope for. The flame-broiled burger was juicy, full of that perfect beef flavor, nestled on a soft bun. The classic crinkle-cut fries were just right. But beyond the food, the atmosphere was something special. The staff was friendly, and the patrons were straight out of a small-town diner scene. There were two elderly couples sharing a meal, one distinguished white-haired gentleman with a cane and his wife with a classic beehive hairstyle, and a pair of hardworking blue-collar "bubbas" who looked like they'd just stepped out of the auto shop for lunch. The jukebox was playing classic '50s tunes, adding to the nostalgic vibe. If you want a genuine, heartwarming diner experience, I highly recommend stopping in.
