I've worked both in emergency ambulance services, as well as the hospital side of things. I'm giving this a 3-star review for lack of a better opinion. I come to HK multiple times a year for business and this time I happened to get sick with a lung infection, and suddenly in the middle of the night I lost my ability to speak and started coughing vehemently. Looked up emergency services and this was one of the closest. It's a huge hospital and the facilities are pretty clean. But the emergency department nurse told me there's a wait time of AT LEAST 8 hours. That's really the longest I've seen someone have to wait. I understand an emergency department needs to triage, and yes, of course there were cases that were more critical than me. But I also expect a public hospital to be staffed well enough to not have patients waiting for over an hour or two. The nurse suggested that I try a private hospital, which I did, not wanting to wait (at least) 8 hours and miss my next day's business meetings. So I took her advise, and waited about 10 minutes at a private hospital close by, got examined for less than 5 minutes from the on-duty physician, and was on my way out of there with medicine in hand (antibiotics, cough medicine, and masks to avoid getting others sick) in under 1hr. I'm sure having a couple additional on-duty physicians to take care of cases that are quick and simple will go a long way to quickly solve this issue.

You lie there, completely…read morehelpless with masked people poking away inside your mouth, with drills the size of road diggers chipping away, the buzzing noise that comes from the smaller drills and the unmistakable pain that your teeth are so rotten its down to the nerves. And he has to clean it. The blood, the spitting and the fact that you just won't believe all the stuff that's been stuck in your teeth. All in all a good day at the dentist. For the past few years I have been coming to Dr. Wong's clinic for dental check ups and cleansing. Prior to that I have been a little less than attentive to my teeth and this got to the point whereby I had to do something about it. On my first visit there I had to sit and wait it out because there was an emergency case; that wait turned out to be one of the longest 5 minutes of my life. The tension. The fear. The bloody zoom sound from the drill. Dr. Wong was as professional as he could be when he saw the state of what resembled some primitive beings' teeth found at an excavation; he nursed them back to good form through a good hour's work. I shall not go into the details but I have to thank them from the bottom of my heart in having to deal with someone as squeamish as I am. Dr. Wong's clinic is conveniently located and the clinic itself is well organized and clean. The waiting area is just an L-shaped sofa but most people come on appointment anyways so it never gets all that busy. I would recommend everyone to go try getting their nashers looked at by him as he is by far the most patient person I have come across in my life with dentists.

In fact, many patients are probably there for general practice health concerns now anyway. However, the practice has continued its excellent reputation in obstetrics and child health care, as if evidenced by the number of pregnant ladies and kids running around! Nearly all (I think bar one) of the doctors are trained overseas, UK, US, Oz, and are excellent healthcare practitioners. I wouldn't go if they were not! They cater heavily to the ex-pat crowd, with the entire practice operating in English. Whilst the practice is a general care centre, they do continue to specialise in obs and gyny, and paediatrics. They also extensively cover psychiatry, psychology and counselling concerns. Unlike many of the practices in HK, Central Health unofficially runs an out of hours service. Of course if you need emergency care, you should ring 999, but if you need "emergency" care from your GP, existing patients can get it from Central Health, depending on the goodwill of the doctor. Appointments are usually quite easy to get at the Central clinic. There are also two other practices in Disco Bay and Southside. As with most HK health care, you will have to pay or produce your medical insurance.

The second time I saw him, he asked me if I had been using the Sensodyne so he remembered! I love that extra touch. The facilities in this Central branch are modern and clean. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because they are more pricey than other dentists I've been to, but I would definitely recommend this clinic.
