Let me just say this: my software developer bf had the time of his life here. I, on the other hand, did not really appreciate it, but it came in so handy when I was looking for accessories for my new laptop. I'm not sure if it's really that much cheaper than say Amazon if you're located in the states, but the good thing is you're allowed to haggle here (and you should). However, you can't really bargain when it comes to the selfie sticks (I tried). Another pro is they have restrooms here! But the whole place is such a maze, it can be hard to figure your way around. And it doesn't help that all the shops sell about the same stuff and look pretty much the same! read more

Another geek hotspot for all us tech hunters and gadget gurus. The Golden Computer Center is basically a cheaper version of Wan Chai computer, probably because it's less know to tourists and the like. On the bottom level we have our computers, memory devices like SD cards and external hard drives, monitors, and a forest of bodies only outnumbered by the cables dangling everywhere like vines. Whenever I visit I do the usual round; exit the MTR, exit D, walk down a flight of stairs and begin my search. I never look at the shops by the entrance, they're always more expensive. However, there is one store near the front that sells computer games, which I think is the only one of it's kind. I mean, I wouldn't know because I don't play with that stuff... what's a computer game? The upstairs is where they sell things like Xboxs and Playstations. I seldom look around there, except when I'm told specifically by a downstairs dude to look for their upstairs friend dude. Half of the fun is just seeing what's new. A wireless SD card, or a strange looking USB adaptor. And, of course, being in awe of the prices, and wishing I had brought more money with me. I've been to the Golden Computer Center a number of times and everything I've bought has survived the test of time, and the bigger test of a clumsy owner. I make sure to visit this building every time before I visit Europe. Ipad cables and the such are about half the price compared to that cold, rainy continent so it means when I give them as gifts to my Dutch friends they actually think I'm a generous person. Little do they know! read more

I give this place four stars for a couple of reasons- if you wanted computer parts or computers per se then you really can't get a better place than this. I don't know how many shops there are in there, spread in a maze like two level design and every corner your eye turns to there will be some sort of new gadget that will attract your attention. Its not only computers too, the printers, scanners, routers- anything that a computer would possibly need to use could be found here. This place is split into two levels, you will find that for much of the top level is dedicated to computer game consoles (PS3/ xbox) and the peripheral computer items (such as printers) whilst downstairs is really for the hardcores- the hardwares, coolers, ports. If you knew your way around your computer you could probably pick up all the bits you need just by swiping your hand through all the stalls you walk by. Ifs busy, its packed and by no means is it a nice place to go (its in need of a makeover, big time) but that's the way it has always been all these years. In the chaotic mass that come here to delve into the latest products there is a common understanding that Golden is ..well...Golden. Most people will be happy to leave it as it is and if you changed it I fear some of the more militant Goldenites might not be too happy. Its cheap, its not really cheerful but it gets the job done- that's why it gets the 4 star treatment. read more
