Yes, that would mean that I never had a realistic choice when it comes a particular breed of dog I like (as your choice depends on the ones that they are trying to home a any given moment) but I have always believed that your pets are destined to be with you and in this case its even more so. My experience with the SPCA has been quite a pleasant one. After indicating that I would like to adopt a dog, we were shown the different dogs that they were trying to re-home: there were puppies, grown ups and even a few older ones. We ended up choosing a puppy around 4 months old and named her after the building we got her from- Pamela. There are the various assessments that SPCA has to go through in terms of assessing whether your home will be a suitable place and that whether you have people taking care of her. That we passed with flying colours and I guess its absolutely necessary that they make sure the dogs they have will be treated with care. Cost wise, if you factor in all the vaccinations and administrative costs it does come to prices around that at pet shops- but in adopting you are stopping breeders from doing what they do and that I'm happy to pay for. The guys at the SPCA do a great job and I do think they need all the support they can get!
