The water is almost completely clear, there are very few people, there's almost no litter and the sand is pretty soft. I'd say the only issue is accessibility. First you need to get to sai kung. Then you need to take a bus or taxi to the pavilion. If you want to take the easy way, there's a nice walk to the first beach, sai wan. The beach is still super clean, there's food, there's a boat that can pick you up. You can walk another 20 minutes to the sai kung rock pools which I highly recommend. The water is so nice and cool. Perfect on a hot day. If you want to get workout in, you can go up and down the mountain to get to the rock stream and the first beach instead of the leisurely walk. From the first beach and rock pools, you can take another short hike to the second beach, Ham Tin. The sand and water is even better here than the first. They have food and boat pickup here. This beach reminded me of Thailand and Hawaii. Highly recommend these beaches if you have the time. Distance: 2.5km Duration: 45 minutes Difficulty: 1 out of 5 Top tip: We suggest to hike from Sai Wan Pavilion to Sai Wan Beach, then hike to the other beaches (Ham Tin Beach, Tai Wan Beach, and Tung Wan Beach) and finally take the speedboat back to Sai Kung from Ham Tin Beach. It's easy to hike from one beach to another as the trails are clearly marked. It's up to you if you want to see all four beaches. Speedboats operate till 5 or 6 PM. Tickets are limited so make sure that you buy your ticket the moment you arrive at the beach from where you'd like to leave!

Unlike some of the beaches that are packed with tourists, such as the Repulse Bay, Deep Water Bay and Stanley Beach, Ham Tin Wan is not accessible by any transportation. You could only get there on a hike. As such, the beach remains free from litter, the sand is very soft and the water is as clear as it can be. Ham Tin Wan is on the MacLehose Trail. Start your hike in the morning at Sai Wan Pavillion, takes about 1.5-2 hours to get to Ham Tin Wan. Enjoy a local meal at a cafe in Ham Tin Wan and set off for the second part of your hike towards Chek King. The entire hike takes about 4 hours or so (excluding lunch and resting time). Go on a sunny day in the winter months (December to March) and you'll be guaranteed the best view in Hong Kong you can ever imagine. It's definitely a delight every time I come back here for a hike every few years!

I had been looking around for a place to do sprints for a few weeks and wasn't happy with the…read moreoptions around my place: Victoria Park was too crowded and there wasn't any straight trail where I could run without bumping into people; Wan Chai Park...too hilly; Hong Kong Park, again crowded and uneven. I had resorted to the treadmill (and risked my life with it!) until a friend told me about Tamar Park. Yeah, I didn't know about it until recently, sorry! To get to Tamar Park from Admiralty, you need to get to Admiralty Center and cross the bridge until you get to the Government Offices. It's a huge, beautiful park overlooking Victoria Harbour. From the entrance of the park you can see a green large carpet. The design of the park is simple and elegant. The first time I went there was on a sunny Sunday and was delighted to have found such a place, a little away from mayhem in Central and exceptionally quiet (on a Sunday, yes!). There were groups of people here and there but I could easily find a free spot under a tree and enjoy my book. It is also a great place for those who work around Admiralty, like me. The downside is that there isn't much shelter and you may want to avoid it during the hot stuffy months. I came back at night a few weeks ago and the view is astonishing, much better than at daylight. It's probably one of my favorite spots to contemplate Hong Kong from. It's just a perfect mix of romanticism and peace. Now, the reason I wanted to check it out was to go sprinting, and you can definitely do that, both in the park, in the early morning when it is empty, or you can go down to the Central Promenade. You will find people jogging along quite often but I expected it to be more crowded. If you carry on this trail, you can reach Central Piers and Star Ferry. Whether you are runner or jogger or you simply haven't found you 'green piece' in the city, I would very much recommend you visit Tamar Park. Or take your other half there at night, he/she will fall in love with you if that hasn't happened yet!

It's also home to the Avenue of Stars and is a popular spot to watch the nightly 8:00 PM Symphony of Lights show. We decided to skip the Symphony of Lights because we had already watched it on YouTube and didn't think it was something we needed to see in person. Instead, we spent our time strolling along the waterfront, both during the day and at night, and we enjoyed it so much more. On our second day in Hong Kong, we walked along the waterfront before taking the Star Ferry to Wan Chai. The harbor views were beautiful during the day, but the nighttime scenery was even more spectacular. The city lights reflecting on the water created an unforgettable view, and I ended up taking tons of photos! We were also happy that our hotel was within walking distance, so we visited the waterfront several times during our trip. Whether you're taking a leisurely walk, enjoying the harbor views, or simply relaxing by the water, the Tsim Sha Tsui Waterfront is definitely a must-see when visiting Hong Kong.

The government closed the zoo to make room for residential growth and to build high rises. Now the highrises that butt up to this park look relatively new, so this would most likely explain how there was land for such a giant public park. He thinks this space was where the zoo once was. Regardles, the park is a great outdoor space for the residents and visitors to this area. It has everything....skatepark, roller skating rink, gateball courts, jogging tracks, soccer pitchs, elderly fitness center, play equipment, fitness stations, tennis courts and an amphitheatre. It also houses the Lingnan Garden, featuring courtyards, winding corridors, structures with traditional Lingnan designs, sculptures and bonsai trees. I read that 20% of the total area of the Lingnan Garden is dedicated to ponds and water features. A great outdoor space and understandably one of the most popular public parks in Hong Kong.

Located inside Lai Chi Kok Park, there are other facilities nearby that would be useful for anyone that visits the park; such as Toilets & changing rooms with showers; they even have lockers in the changing room ( just ask the office situated next to the changing rooms for a locker key) - having a refreshing shower after a session on a summer day is one of the best features of this park. Water fountains near the entrance of the skatepark & also near the changing rooms & vending machines right next to the skatepark keep you hydrated. Many restaurants & convenience stores/supermarkets in near by Mei Foo estate as well. The park has security there for access control, if you need help please don't hesitate to call on them. The boat ride is short and sweet but unique. I think most shopping mall play areas do not have a boat ride. For each child to ride the boat, parent supervision is required. There was a line during our visit and our wait was approximately 20 minutes. The ride itself is probably two minutes long but the kids enjoyed it and saw different characters along the way. The whole play area seems a bit dated and could use a refresh.

Absolutely pay the West Kowloon Waterfront Promenade and really the West Kowloon Cultural District Park that is emerging in this area a visit. We had cause to be in this area to attend one of the "Freespace Happenings" that takes place the second and fourth Sunday of each month from September to March in the Nursery Park portion of this emerging cultural district. What a great outdoor, open space for all of Hong Kong to enjoy. This was then how we discovered the walking promenade. Not super easy to get to, we took the MTR from Hong Kong on the orange line to Kowloon Station and kind of followed the signs to the West Kowloon Cultural District, that will also get you to the West Kowloon Waterfront Promenade. It is maybe a 10-15 minute walk, because you have to take the foot bridge up and over the busy tunnel road. Along the promenade itself, it is lovely. Seemed pretty clean and it was a great view of Hong Kong and the harbour. We kind of meandered around and just enjoyed the outdoor space. There were thousands of people out and about enjoying the day. Wedding photos were being taken, graduation commencement gatherings were around, picnics of friends, people signing as buskers to the public. There are some public toilets up near the nursery portion of the park as well. The West Kowloon Cultural District (as this whole area is formerly called) is in the middle of a huge expansion and build out of M+ Pavillion (run-up facility to opening of art museum itself), M+ Building (the actual modern art museum), Xiqu Centre (for traditional xiqu performaces and cantonese opera), Lyric Theatre Complex (dance & theatre) and Freespace (for concerts and events). So although the promenade is a great outdoor space, just wait. It appears it is literally just the start of some cultural greatness for Hong Kong to come in 2017-2020. So why not stroll over there and check it out now.

Once was during the daytime, and once at night. Both were enjoyable times! You could bring snacks and eat outdoors, or use your selfie-stick for some kick-ass photos. There are also bikes to rent, and relatively clean public toilet facilities. The place doesn't earn more stars, for me, for several reasons. One - because it's quite a walk to get there from the nearest bus stop (there's a large depot underneath Elements) or MTR station. Two - because it has so much unmet potential. There are major plans in the works for this area, and with its prime waterfront location and stunning views, it could be so much more, so I await the upcoming arts and culture complex with bated breath. Three - because the way to get to the actual promenade is, quite frankly, pretty ugly and run-down. Again, there is so much potential! But who wants to walk for 7 minutes past barbed-wire fences and multi-lane highways full of exhaust to get to a pleasant picnic spot? I'll be keeping my eye on the Promenade and hopefully it will transform into something amazing, earning many 5-star reviews :)
