Having a custom-made blazer was a lifetime experience.
Review of Yuen's Tailor
Reviewed 3 weeks ago
I was interested in a custom-made double-breasted blazer while in Hong Kong. A friend that we made on our cruise was originally from Hong Kong suggested Johnny Yuen to us. His shop is located in the barracks of the Central Police Station. This is an honor as this site is considered historical by UNESCO. Mr. Yuen was a purveyor of dress uniforms to various British regiments as well as professional kilt maker. He also creates tuxedos, suits, shirts and other dress elements in addition to women's clothing. He won the best designer award at a competition in Busan, Korea in 2024.
I met Johnny and he showed me various fabrics, colors and patterns that I could choose from. I chose a tropical sharkskin fabric in midnight blue. He took initial measurements for both a jacket and pants should I desire a suit at a later date. The next day, I returned for an initial fitting of a mockup jacket. Except for a few tweaks, it fit like a glove. I was asked if I desired to show any shirt cuff and if so, how much. In addition I was asked if I wished to have single or double vents on the jacket and was then shown sets of buttons to choose from. I picked out a beautiful set of brass regimental buttons made in England.
Mr. Yuen started in the clothing industry with his brother Bonny 40 years ago. He is a single practitioner with Jericho Cheng (apprentice) and a woman who does the pressing. He stated that I would receive the jacket in 8 - 10 weeks, including shipping. I was very pleased. After the fitting, I was shown all of the awards, swords and other artifacts that he was given from his military association. I was quite impressed and asked if we could take a picture together prior to leaving. I cannot wait to receive the blazer due to his artistry and precise fit. The experience was quite elating and thoroughly enjoyable. read more
