It does miracles restoring tired feet and warming your body in cold weathers. I would say it beats out mediocre foot massage. It's a great way to get some rest during the day, when you don't have more time for a real sauna. Not to mention the numerous health benefits the sweating is supposed to provide, such as detoxification and improving circulation.
It's the first time I visit New Born, I didn't know that this place has almost 10 branches in Hong Kong. Foot steaming is their specialty and they know how to do it right.
You are given a set of clothes to change into, and a spacious locker to put your belongings. I appreciate the change of clothes as you do sweat - not just your legs but your whole body.
While you are changing, the staff turns on the machine. You are given a menu of 20 herbal mix to pick from, from improving the skin tone to vitality for men. After adding the herbal package you can put your lower feet into the bucket, adjust the heat to your liking, and sit there for the next 45 minutes taking a nap, playing with your phone, reading a book or do whatever you fancy.
The staff is very hard working, busy refilling the tea cups (when she notices my cup still full, she tells me I need to water up, and their roasted barley tea is quite delicious), rinsing and disinfecting the buckets after a customer leaves, etc.
They don't have masseurs in house, but when I said that I want a massage, they arranged one to come to do it after my steam session. If you can call ahead and give them more time to arrange somebody, do so, better chance to book a good masseur instead of whoever's free.
Will definitely be a regular of this chain, with all the walking I do during the visit.
