Well it was my first time using a funeral home and my first time in Hong Kong, so I don't have any…read morecomparisons. But the HKFH handled everything beautifully. At my first meeting they explained the options and costs and were very straightforward and helpful. They helped schedule the vigil, pickup from the mortuary, and the cremation, as well as hosting the vigil. In fact one of their staff drove me to two different crematories/cemeteries offices (part of the Hong Kong Food and Environmental Hygiene Department) to get an expedited cremation permit because I had to fly back to the US.
When I returned later, a different staff member went with me to the Coroner's Court and crematories office to get a preliminary death certificate and export permit for the ashes, plus they coordinated with the US Consulate and held the ashes until I could pick them up. I made initial arrangements with Mr. Gerald Siu and on my 2nd trip my documentation quest was well assisted by Ms. Siu. Not all the staff spoke English but the ones who didn't were still incredibly helpful. Some bilingual friends helped me at times and the staff and I did small translations on our phones when needed.
The Hong Kong Funeral Home helped me deal with a difficult situation on short notice.
