I almost missed this landmark while walking up Battery Path. The facade of the courthouse was unassuming. I had to take a second look to make sure it did say "Court of Final Appeal."
The building itself has a long history. It is in fact one of the "Declared Monuments" in Hong Kong, along with the neighboring St. John's Cathedral. Dated back in the 1800s, it has changed hands many times from the first governor of the former British colony to the American merchants and then the French missionaries. No doubt, there have been various alterations done to the original structure but the whole unit is kept in great shape. Its masonry exterior really speaks to me as I am a fan of red brick houses.
This historical building has been serving as the highest court but it will change next year. You should definitely check it out. read more
