I remember coming here as excursion every single year when I was a primary school student. It seems…read morelike either my school really loved this place or they ran out of idea. Anyways, I did not know it was actually located at Sha Tin Racecourse not until a few more years... Now when I think about that... I did not realize when I was play hide-and-seek with my fellow classmates, there could be thousands of people betting and drinking just a few kms away... Penfold Park is a public park in Sha Tin and it is surrounded by the racecourse. It is well-known for being a pet-friend while nicely landscaped place filled with greeneries since it opened in 1979. To get here, take the MTR to Fo Tan station. However, beware that the park is closed on race days. So please check the Jockey Club website before coming here. The park is rather spacious, enabling kids to run around freely and a perfect place for you to walk your dogs. With the lush green areas, people often refer here as "Shatin's green lungs" (not really the best name to be honest). Here you may find tennis court, tables for picnic and barbeque grills. Over the year, it has also hosted quite a few equestrian competitions. At one side of the park, you may also take pictures with painted horse statues and artworks. Personally, I love the arched entrance as it is a rather traditional Chinese arch and you can go to the man-made lake through it. On second thought, I seldom go to this place anymore as I do not own a pet nor do I have children yet. But I do remember when I was a kid, I did love this place a lot chasing after my classmates and it was really fun. I am sure it is more fun than spending your weekends in a learning centre... Probably if I go back there, I might be those who are betting on horses now...

Officially, it is called On Lok Mun Street Playground since it is situated on its namesake street…read more Colloquially, it is known as Fanling Skatepark. Frankly, it's easier to say Fanling than On Lok Mun so I also prefer saying Fanling Skatepark. This skatepark is one of the more bigger ones in the city, with three huge bowls that are, if I'm not mistaken, separated by their degree of difficulty. This park is huge and has what beginner to advanced skaters need, want and more. It has stairs, several pyramids, fun boxes, rails and ramps. What's more, it's not only for skateboarders, rollerbladers can join in the fun too. I enjoy skating and rollerblading, in fact, I got into rollerblading really young and only got in skateboarding when I had friends in high school who played the sport. The park has an adjacent BMX park, and while the thought is nice, it's not really conducive for BMX riders due to its awkward design. I'm not too sure when Fanling Skatepark opened but in late 2011, the park was already completed but had to pass final QA. The park even has a public payphone (what?!), a drinking fountain, and rest benches. One thing it doesn't have though (and it's a big thing), are toilets and changing rooms. I mean, we could have all done without the payphone and just replaced it with a men's and ladies toilet. The best time to skate this park is at night, when the floodlights come on and you can see a lot of skaters shredding and practicing their tricks. A lot of skaters are saying that this is the best skatepark in Hong Kong right now, and we have to thank Convic (skatepark design firm) and the LCSD for that.
