Long boasted as the largest single floored library in Asia, any City U student would know we are…read moretalking about "Lai gei". This is the main library for City University and granted it is actually quite a big place. I haven't tried it but I would guess that walking from one end to the other end of the library would take you a good five minutes. There is ample space for revision (some are doing that) and sleeping (most people are doing that). Back in the day you were able to borrow computers but I guess that won't be too much of a an issue now with so many devices available personally. The library does boast one of the biggest collection of law books in Hong Kong (granted it was one of the only law schools in HK outside of HKU) and it did for a while provide a source for information for students and practitioners alike. The reserved and semi-reserved sections are well enforced and books are rarely out of reach. there are cases where books are "misplaced" with a motive but I guess the librarians are pretty good at organizing things. There are some rooms where you can view DVDs and other multimedia items- but I haven't tried that in the past. Joking aside, I do think that for such a "new" university to be equipped with such a well stocked library to be a god-send for the university. Indeed it did provide room for students to study, to meet and a proper location to conduct scholarly activities. I will always thank it for being a good location to finish any last minute coursework given its proximity to my LT. I know this place isn't somewhere that everyone could go but I would urge you to use it more if you could because you won't know how good it is until you leave.

School buses. The school bus system at CUHK has got to be the worst. Students have around 15…read moreminutes between classes and they still need to go line up and wait for the school bus to take them to the designated lecture rooms. In fact, running with our books while catching our breath is no stranger to lots of CUHK students. And I have to say that one staircase on the side of the library is famous for students to fall off during those times, and it is commonly known as the "PK stairway". There are over 7 libraries at CUHK and the Main Library has got to be the most packed one in all times. Before the expansion, though the library itself was fairly big, comprised of 5 floors, still during exam seasons, you could never find an empty table or chair. Now with the new wing, the surprisingly stylish design definitely makes it more spacious to cater for students' need; but it does not really go with the old wing in my opinion. Anyway, if you have been there, you will know what I mean. One fun fact: have you ever passed through "The Arch"? I mean the sculpture in front of the Chinese University Main Library. There have been rumors saying that one cannot graduate if he or she has walked under it before. Therefore, it is now called "Gate of Wisdom"; but I still doubt if anyone is going to walk through it. But if you did, it is believed that you can just fall off at the PK Stairway and you will be fine, well, maybe not physically.
