DO NOT EAT HERE; overpriced, rude service. Our guides told us that "scamming" is a national pastime in Prague, but this restaurant is living proof that not all scammers operate in the street. Here they will charge you for using utensils and for any condiments you use, then beg you for an additional tip. The food was okay at best, was one of the only options open at 8AM, and consequently they will up-charge you in any way they can. We at at some nice restaurants in Prague, but proportionally speaking this meal was the most expensive for the poor quality we received.

All the reviews you have read on Yelp and Trip Advisor about this place on and it's other locations are horrible yet true! The servers are shady and give off a bad vibe. They ask you for tip even though it is not "compulsory" as stated in the receipt. The food was okay but you'll be surprised when you see that you are charged for the butter for your bread, and charged for the TABLE SETTING. Beware when you receive you credit card statement and the total is way more than what supposed to be when you signed your bill. Just because it looks cute, cozy, or authentic do not step inside this shady place. It will leave a bad taste in your Prague palate! It was empty for a reason I should have read the reviews first.

While this is an obviously touristy restaurant right in the middle of the city, we were quite hungry as we had just arrived in the city and needed to grab a bite. I got the chicken schnitzel and oh my god it was delicious! It tasted exactly like how my grandma makes it and since it's a traditional dish I have concluded that Czech schnitzel is much better than the German one, being juicier and generally perfect. Disclaimer: chicken schnitzel is my favourite food ever, especially served with chips. In terms of beer there's very limited choice (light or dark) but I saw another drink advertised on the menu, a bombardino, made from egg liqueur and cream and I was very curious to try it in place of dessert. I absolutely loved it! It tasted like a Cadbury egg but without the chocolate and actually nice. It's warm on the inside and the cream is normal temperature. You should totally try it! In terms of its location, it's perfect to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine while watching all the people passing by. If you are hungry in the vicinity you should try it out.

My family and I had a pretty great time here. Although it's pretty much in the middle of a tourist spot, I wouldn't necessarily say it was a "trap." The waiter was great and he took us downstairs where we had a private table to ourselves (weren't charged extra). The food was delicious and the goulash was definitely traditional. We all enjoyed our meal thoroughly. I will say, the prices were slightly elevated compared to other local spots we've visited, but nothing astronomical. It's expected for that side of town. All in all, the atmosphere, service, and food were great!

Major rip off! When we got the bill, we learned they charged about $5 each to just sit down. The menu has "suggested sides," so we were charged about $15 for potatoes to complete each of the three meals. We asked for three butters - expecting three small foil-wrapped blocks, but got six triangles. And they charged us about $15 for them! read more

Unfortunately , there is not a rating to represent less than one star for this atrocious restaurant. We got in around 10:30 PM after a long day of travel from America We ordered the simplest thing on the menu, which was a pizza since they were the only place open. she took our order and we asked for water. She didn't bring our water, 20 minutes later we still did not have water and 45 minutes later, we had no food when I encountered her inside and asked her to bring the check at the same time she brought the food, she told me oh the kitchen had closed already . #Thank youForTellingMe. Terrible environment horrifying service. I'm sure the food would have been an interesting review, but we will never know. AVOID THIS TERRIBLE ESTABLISHMENT read more

Wow what a rip off! We went to this spot in old town Prague near our hotel. We were literally the only customers there at 6:30 p.m. it's located right at the edge of the square for people watching. It's still very touristy this time of year. We ordered one beer, one bottle of water and pasta bolognese. They have pretzels on a rack for each table. Kind of cute bu they were super stale. My pasta was good. We get the bill and I notice that there are 5 charges and we only had 3 items that we ordered. I asked the waiter what the extra 2 charges were for. He said they charge 2$ for the pretzel ! What !? I mean they were out there like bread bowls...seriously! Then the other charge was for "a couvert por" which is a cover charge...$4. Now I understand all the negative reviews here, should have checked Yelp! My loss... well the waiters actually since I only tipped 10% . Definitely Pass read more

PRANK ALERT : DO NOT EAT AT THIS RESTAURANT !! service was extremely rude and nobody took the time to explain the menu They will charge you for some weird stuff, like the already served utensils and force you to pay tips even though you are not satisfied with the service, which is the last thing they apparently care about. read more

The staff was really friendly and the food was great. We went in the evening with a friend that lives in Prague. The waiter found out it was my birthday and they cut off the lights, sang happy birthday and gave me a shot. We had a great time and our bill was as expected. read more

PSA Warning : Do not waste your time or money here. RUN. AWAY. It's bloody damn awful - except for the great location. So, unless you simply wish to sit somewhere nice, enjoy an overpriced drink, before even factoring in a ridiculous table cover charge (applicable even if you're dining here), and take in the nice scenery... STAY AWAY. Save yourself from this awful tourist trap. Oh, yeah... the food is awful, too. The 'authentic beef goulash' tastes just like... reheated frozen food tray food. The fish and chips were fine - tastes like fast fried, fast food take out. (Unfortunately, I didn't have Internet service before I sat down. Otherwise, I would have taken heed of the low rating and the reviews). On the upside, the service is very pleasant, and the WC is very clean. Ps, even the pretzels awaiting you on the tables... are traps for the unwitting and unwary : US $2 a piece (they tell you this only AFTER you've picked one up, and or bitten into one). UGH. read more

I just came across old pictures that reminded me of the terrible experience at this restaurant. The food is terrible and overpriced and your bill will have vague charges tantamount to theft. This is a business purely to take advantage of tourists. Stay away. read more

Agreed, I wish I could choose 1 star. Even -1 would be the right amount of stars for they. It took us 3 minutes to realize what kind of service. The manager was standing right next to us chatting with other guy with menus in their hands. I had to asked them for one! The made a face that I can't describe!!! I immediately gave him the menu back and leave. DONT GOOOO read more

Terrible service! After sitting 20 minutes with no waiter in sight. When we finally saw a waiter we asked for a menu and were told another waiter would bring it. Then when we asked another waiter he told us to wait. The place was not even busy. We finally got up and left! We were the 3rd group that left. I can see why they only have 1 star read more

The most ridiculously rude service I've had in Europe thus far. Please. Do us all a favor and refrain. One of my worst dining experiences ever. As soon as we stumbled across this place, I was excited. I walked in, flagged down a server and asked for a seat; his response: "sit down". A party of four with one child, we were a bit taken aback, but still, since we had already decided to dine here we followed orders and proceeded to the table he pointed to. The tables have old pretzels laid out on them, and when we made our way thru the tables (which were exceptionally close together), some of the pretzels were knocked over. I didn't think much of it, as the guests beside our table took their entire rack of pretzels with them upon completion of their meal, but when our bill came, they charged us for almost a dozen pretzels! The food we ordered was also terrible. Perhaps because we knocked over pretzels? I am unsure of the reason for the lack in the quality of food, but it was so bad I had to ask more than once if the consistency of the items was normal. (Think boneless DRY ribs and bland fish). read more

Lovely restaurant with an outside area for people watching. I had the golnaush soup and sausage appetizer- both very tasty and fresh. English speaking server was appropriate but not particularly smiley; a very Czech thing so get used to it if you're traveling here. read more
Very expensive and slow service, it took them 15 min to make a latte and they were not full, so they can't blame it on being busy. The waiters were not the friendliest. Coffee quality was good, although they don't know what a flat white is. :) read more

**This restaurant tries to take advantage of tourists!!** We picked this restaurant because we wanted to try more Czech cuisine during our short visit to Prague. There are pretzels on the table, but keep in mind that they charge you 15 kc for each pretzel you eat. After you order, they place bread on the table, but they try to charge you 15 kc per person automatically for this. The food was mediocre and the pork dish my boyfriend got was a small portion. At the end, the waitress printed the wrong bill and had "accidentally" forgotten to add my meal the bill. Our receipt was under what the meal added up to and she then tried to overcharge us for the meal - about 50 kc more. When we argued with her, she said that her English wasn't good enough to understand (this was after her speaking impeccable English throughout our meal). We ended up pulling out our calculators, adding up the actual cost of the meal, leaving the money, and walking out. The whole ordeal was extremely upsetting and put a damper on our last night in Prague. Be careful, travelers! read more

Zero stars. I wish I could say something about the food, but we were left hungry. After waiting at the table for 15+ minutes, we asked if we could be served, whereupon the manager told us that "you should go eat at Burger King if you're in a hurry" read more

If there is a choice of zero star, I would use it for this place. The service is terrible. We had five people. Though we first sat outside, we wanted to move inside as it's windy outside. But the manager told us we couldn't as it was full inside. But actually there were plenty of seats inside. Then when we actually ordered , we were told for every main course (except burger), we would be charged for another 100 CZK for bread and butter (it appeared to be very tiny when they are finally served with the main course). When we just ordered water, we were told the only water they had is the bottled mineral water and it cost CZK 115 each. Finally it took them more than half an hour to serve. It's the most terrible restaurant experience I have had in a long while. read more

This is one of those restaurants that give cities a bad name. The service was fine. The food was ok (a few more chunks of meat in the goulash wouldn't go a miss), but the bill was the most complicated you'll ever come across and although the waiter was very pleasant and efficient, he was somewhat embarrassed as he explained the extra charges to us, disgruntled customers. He probably gets it all the time. The only good point was that the service charge was not included as many Prague restaurants have the audacity to throw 15% on the bill! The 2 tiny bread rolls that were offered (and NOT ordered), came at a cost of 100 CZK (Czech Koruna). The extremely stale Pretzels that were sitting on all the tables are NOT complimentary - they cost 49 CZK! Yes 49 CZK and are basically a health hazard. In the part of the restaurant we were sitting in, there was no smoking but in many restaurants, there's smoking (as in parts of this one), and they always seem to be placed over the ash tray! Thinking they were complimentary and not smoked upon, we attempted to snap one in half to give a bit to your dog, only finding it itemised on the bill! There are many restaurants that have a menu on display on the street with reasonable prices (obviously to draw people in), but they make their money charging for expensive drinks which prices are not on display. OK, fair enough, you don't have to order a drink if you think the price is too steep but if they supply you with a tiny (and it was tiny), bread roll and then charge you dearly for them, that's unexceptable! So, a bad review for the Švejk restaurant (part of The Prague Inn Hotel), and two customers who will never return and warn others intending to visit Prague. read more

Forget about pickpockets... This restaurant will rob you blind. We stopped into Svejk for lunch today and ordered drinks and lunch. Our server wasn't friendly and seemed completely put out when I asked for ketchup (which he later tried to charge us for). When the bill came, he did not give us the actual written bill, just gave us each a total. When I asked to see the check, we realized he had overcharged us by about 125 kcr each (€5). When I asked why, he said because of a 10% service charge. I asked another server very nicely if I could speak to a manager. When it came over (a disgusting, ugly pitbull of a woman) she immediately said "what do you want". When I nicely asked to see the bill and for an explanation of the 10%, she told me it was bullshit and refused. This disgusting creature ruined the rest of our day. Fortunately, my friend works for one of the premiere travel companies in Central Europe and has already contacted several colleagues to let them know what happened as well as posted on a local tour guide board to encourage them to tell travelers not to go there. I have never had a worse dining experience and actually heard from another person on my trip that the same exact thing happened to them, only 2 hours earlier. Avoid this place at all costs. read more

Very expensive price for quite normal food. The waiter surely wants to take advantage of tourists! He "forced" us to pay a 15% tips! Although as is mentioned on the bill that tips are not compulsory! He told us that it's their rule or sth to charge 15% for dinner. DONT go!! read more

Absolutely atrocious, terribly rude, extremely overpriced and bad service. We waited far too long for our food we were nice, and accommodating. At the end of the meal, KATARINA gave us our check and then insisted to do the math of how much we needed to tip, constantly repeating over and over it must be 10%. Mind you, we were going to leave a good tip. When she came back with our change, she then hovered over my shoulder repeating 10% until I gave her a tip. It was extremely annoying, embarrassing, and not worth it. You are better off going elsewhere for your food as the service and overpriced entrees are not worth the time. Would give 0 stars if possible. read more

Bad bad bad! Everything is bad- from the service down to the food. Feels like they don't wanna be there. It's feels like they don't like the tourist there, talking about you, bring you the food an hour later while there is not a lot of people there. We've got our food and when we ask for fork and knife and we got it 30 min' after the food has arrived! And to finish they say -"WE DONT LIKE BLACK PEOPLE" amazing read more
