When I asked few Istanbulites where to buy lokum (or Turkish delight in English), all pointed me toward Sekerci. On my way to this candy store, I stopped by Fazil Bey for a coffee break and found out that even this popular coffee shop has Sekerci as its lokum supplier! After asking in my broken Turkish and Istanbulites replying in broken English, I confirmed that Sekerci is indeed the local favorites to get lokum!
Anyway, I was a bit intimidated by Sekerci's fancy storefront and thought the prices would be ridiculous after seeing inflated prices in the bazaars. However, I discovered to my surprise that Sekerci prices are slightly cheaper! For instance, the pistachio lokum is 38 TL per kg while the bazaar prices are at least 44 TL (of course, you can barter down the price). Furthermore, unlike the overwhelming sweet ones that I sampled in the bazaar, the lokum here tasted much more balanced and substantial. Without considering the prices, the lokum quality is certainly the best here! Plus, the store people wrap up each half-kilogram boxes in fancy paper, so every box is very presentable as gifts.
Whether you are buying lokum as gifts or your personal delights, Sekerci should be your stop! Regular Istanbulites and local coffee shops use the high-quality, reasonably-priced lokum from Sekerci, so what other evidence do you need to convince you that this is one of the best lokum in Istanbul? read more
