Örebro Open Art is an open art exhibition that was first arranged in Örebro in 2008. Since 2009 it has been arranged every other year. The exhibition is free of charge and invited artists from all over the world show all kinds of creative installations all over the city during some months. The creativity and inventiveness varies greatly, so does sizes. Still nothing so far has remotely been able to compete with the Big Yellow Rabbit from 2011 - a huge happiness instigating toy rabbit sculpture in wood that lighted up the city square. Unfortunately it was simply torn down after the exhibition was finished.
It really is a well worth outing to see the Open Art and I love how you get a map and then can walk around the city explore and delight (or in some rare cases not at all) over the different artsy expressions. Some of the open art remain permanently, so even if you haven't been fortunate to visit the exhibition itself some artsy glimmers remain all year round.
And so do the great trash vans all over Örebro where you can sort glass - paper - metal - plastic even when out and about. Yes Örebro is certainly a city with a lot of interesting projects on many levels, not only the fab Open Art. Which btw will take place next time in 2017, don't miss! read more
