We ended up talking to one of the guys who works here for over half an hour, learning about different beer styles (broadly), Quebec beer laws, and some special brews in Quebec. You can tell this store is special, as many locals were coming in and out while we were there. There also seems to be a nice rapport with the people who work here, who are obviously willing to help. For any American coming to this store - they will do trades for special, highly-coveted beers (think Treehouse or Alchemist), and you'll get a very nice trade with what you bring. This opportunity is definitely something we plan to take advantage of when we inevitably return to this store.

It manages the sale and distribution of alcoholic beverages across the province and operates its own retail stores. We were fortunate enough to win a gift card to SAQ at a charity event last week, so one of our final visits in Montreal was to walk over to this small store at the Place D'Armes and pick up whatever we could for our C$50 prize. Although the store wasn't very large it was very neat and fully stocked, with prices clearly marked for every bottle and can in the store. One of their sales associates was very friendly and helped us find what we were looking for. I'm a big Bloody Mary fan, and from previous trips to Canada knew that "Bloody Caesars" are favored up here. The differ from a Bloody Mary by using Clamato juice instead of a tomato juice base. So, when I saw a shelf with plenty of Clamato choices, I knew one would be coming home with me. I selected a 16 ounce can of Clamato Caesar "With the Works" (Le Tour Garni) with extra spices, seasonings, hot sauce and horseradish (C$3.80). We rounded out our purchase with a bottle of Cliff 79 Shiraz (C$11.75), a bottle of Folonari Pinot Grigio (C$14.95), a bottle of Casa Santos Sangria (C$12.45), and a nifty little branded tote bag for (C$2.95). The only down note of our visit concerned a bottle of SIVO blueberry liqueur I had hoped to buy. I had some at a social function on Thursday night and liked it so much I took a photo of the bottle. When I showed the photo to the sales associate, he not only told me they didn't carry it, but he also told me it was just syrup, and not alcoholic. He said any grocery store would have it. I learned that he was wrong, it is an alcoholic product made in a Canadian distillery.

One of the owners is usually the store clerk, he knows every single beer he sells. He is always able to recommend his favorite beers of the moment or a specific brand whenever I ask him a question. He knows all of the beers he has in stock and which beers can only be sold at certain breweries. In addition to beer, they also sell sausages, homemade sauerkraut (their beer sauerkraut is my fav!), and delicious sourdough baguette! Not into beers? B and I came inside to check out the liquor and to see if there is anything that would tickle our fancy. This location is quite small. Therefore selections are very limited. But again, it is located downtown and if I were to guess rent in downtown is prime real estate with a premium. B and I ended up not getting anything from here. The liquor that they sell here are nothing special. Most of them are the common brands that you usually find at any liquor stores.

I think particularly because it feels like we're not supposed to have anything really of extra or special, it feels extra special to get some super cool Québécoise beers delivered to my home. The whole experience with Cheers was agreeable- I visited their website and saw that they sold singles, "caisses", and little fancy snack-type things. Since I'm a woman of great indecision the option to get a variety pack suits me fine. I ordered a six "thirsty" pack and a six "découverte" pack and I'm super pleased with the variety. We got stouts, sours, lagers, ales and a couple IPAs. Something for everyone. So far the beers we've tried have been super interesting and tasty. The customer service is top notch with these folks. The delivery was confirmed immediately after I placed my order. Right away they texted me what time my beers would arrive; in less than 24 hours a friendly beer fella was at my door wishing me "Bonne bière!". While I haven't visited Cheers in person, if the space is any bit as warm and friendly as their staff have been with delivery, I have no doubt that it's a total delight.

They are very knowledgable and I was impressed at how much this young kid knew about wines. The selections varies a tiny bit form that of the LCBO, the selection of VQA wines is not as diverse but is is compensated by a selection of liquors with Maple Syrup in them. I love a place that sells wines, I could spend several hours there.
