My wife and I were recommended this quaint little restaurant in the small village of Schwabenheim…read more It was a pleasant drive through the green countryside to a stone building that was quite historic! We parked across the street along the another older building because it was Sunday with no restrictions. On a weekend it isn't hard to find free parking across the street. However, during the week many of those spots will be filled. We weren't greeted immediately because the staff seemed a little busy with serving food. However, after a few minutes we were asked if we had a reservation (we did) and led to a wonderful courtyard surrounded by similar stone constructed buildings. I will say the service throughout the meal was professional, but not as warm as we would have liked. However, there were many locals eating here, who also got the same level of service. I'm half German, so this didn't bother me as it is just the way German culture is different than the overly friendly American restaurant experience! Although I'm fluent in German, the staff can all speak sufficient English to help with the Germany-only menu. I loved the menu because it had a lot of local German dialekt! We started with their local Brut Riesling Sekt, which was delicious!! It was from their winery or Weingut, which is called Immerheiser. I highly recommend you try anything Riesling, especially dry. It is not like the American style Riesling which is missing the depth one finds from the German terroir. Okay, on to food, which was excellent! It was spargel season, so my wife got the white asparagus and added a side of schnitzel. Both were spectacular, and the spargel was big enough to share for 2 or even 3 people, so please try it! I wanted something more substantial, so I ordered the Schinken-Käse Schnitzel, which was like a Cordon Bleu, but far thicker because it was folded over despite the pork being very tender from being pounded thin, as is the custom. My wife also tried a glass of their "normal" dry Riesling - also excellent! The courtyard was filled within 15 minutes after our 12:30 reservation, so this is a must. All the servers helped by clearing dishes and asking if we needed anything else. If you are not German, but in the area as a tourist, you owe it to yourself to experience this (or other small villages), where the magical experience of eating in a several hundred year old town with a winery and local restaurant will create memories far beyond the modern world most of us travel in. We went back last September 2018 to state & dined & enjoyed their boutique wine & food selections. We loved it ! We are back again this time to enjoy this special place. There is nothing fancy (not Michelin or 5 stars) but a simple local food and local wines for this reason. It's very special ! We stayed in the one of the newest suite accommodation (room up stair of the main wine-tasting). It was contemporary & super comfortable. Dining & wine tasting at this place is what really brings us back. We bring a few bottles back to the USA since they don't ship nor wholesaling their wines. One of our favorite wine is Pinot Noir Blanc...delicious ! We highly recommended this place if you are in Frankfurt, Mainz, or Wiesbaden...it's also a beautiful drive to get here, meandering through the hilly wine country. It's a rewarding experience for us. Life is good & travel & try new things. FYI: they don't have the English Menu - just German. But I'm confident you can find a way...if you have the will (and wheels ) Prost !
