It was like a sign from God, as we explored this neighborhood in BFE (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=BFE) to see if we might buy our first home here. The sign said THAI bei Pom. We bought the house and I am this restaurant's biggest fan.
In America I ate Thai food several times weekly. That is not an exaggeration, I can't get enough of it. And everytime I eat at Pom's, I crave it even more the very next day. His wife has an amazing Massaman recipe that is unlike any Massaman out there. There are no potatoes. (But who needs potatoes over rice?) They make it with tender Argentine steak and the peanut sauce is to-die-for. It's an explosion of hot and sweet at once. I lick the bowl clean every time. Sadly the Massaman is not always available - better to call and ask first. The Panang is also awesome but you must order it in advance and I never think ahead. I haven't had other dishes because I cannot imagine anything can taste as good as their Massaman.
I have enjoyed the appetizers; they are all wonderful, especially the little meat skewers you cook over fire at your table. So much fun!
Mr and Mrs Pom are wonderful hosts and are very patient with my attempts to uncover their secret recipes.
If I had to find any complaint, and this is Germany so it's expected of me, I'd ask that they play Thai music. I'm simply accustomed to ethnic restaurants playing their culture's music and not mine. Thai music makes Thai food taste better.
If you find yourself in BFE Germany, you are sure to be impressed if you eat here. Now if only I could get them to open for lunch.... read more
