It had everything you need and what they had was top notch. *AMBIANCE* Cozy, elegant, and stylish. There is some history to this place and you can tell two things: 1) It is family owned and they are taking good care of the place, and 2) the interior decoration is outstanding and they family put a lot of effort into getting it to where it is. Overall, the place is very quiet, peaceful, and a great place to relax. *SAUNAS* Their saunas met the mark with a high margin. The hot sauna is hot! The infrared sauna makes you sweat! The low heat sauna is great for relaxing! The water pool - cold! The steam room - great for skin cleansing and relaxing. They were all kept very clean! *ETIQUETTE* No clothes of any kind allowed in the saunas. Place your towel under you to cover your full body and to capture your sweat. Saunas and dressing room are co-ed, in fact the entire place is co-ed. Behave respectfully and politely. Ask the staff for any clarification, as they were super polite, helpful, and kind. Great place to try your first sauna in the Netherlands.

Otherwise, as mentioned--and as indicated by its name--the "Deco"-era interiors are unlike any I've ever experienced at such a spa, which further adds to the escapism that is the bliss of a spa with different saunas, a cold plunge, etc. The owners and operators are truly wonderful, too! We both had massages, which were excellent and delivered professionally - no complaints there. However, what followed completely ruined what should have been a peaceful and special visit. We both run businesses, so from time to time we checked our phones - something that was never mentioned as being against the rules. We were not told this when I called to book, not informed during check-in, and no signs were visible indicating that phones were not allowed. Despite this, we were approached and antagonised four separate times by staff about being on our phones. What made matters worse was the attitude. After I raised a complaint, I saw staff looking over and laughing at us, despite the fact that staff behind the counter were also on their phones. After our treatments, while we were simply standing and talking outsidethe associate manager Linda came downstairs to confront us again with another member of staff standing listening to the conversation even though we weren't on our phones at that point. It felt targeted, petty, and deeply unprofessional. We were given two complimentary glasses of wine, but that does not make up for how uncomfortable and humiliated we felt. We had wine, coffee, and cakes in the restaurant - and instead of a relaxing experience, we left feeling upset and disrespected. This was meant to be a peaceful, celebratory day for us, but the staff's behaviour made it significantly worse. It's a real shame because the treatments themselves were great, but the way we were treated by the staff completely overshadowed everything else. Unfortunately, I would not return and could not recommend this spa based on our experience.

There is a monthly contract possibly now, so you don't have to unwillingly get in to one year lock-in. Parking is free and there is ample parking space available. Mornings after 09:00 mostly occupied by seniors. Gets somewhat quiet around noon & early afternoon. Evenings are kind of busy mostly. After 20:30, starts to get kind of free again. But you can always manage to find your space, may be you might have to wait couple of minutes when it is really busy but that is not always. There also a number of group classes / sessions going on, haven't tried them yet, Gym floor and equipment are sufficiently neat and clean. There are some old looking cardio equipment, they could be swapped for shiny new ones. Lot of lockers are available but you should bring your own lock or purchase one at the reception for a small fee. Changing room is big enough. There are couple of toilets and showers and a small dry sauna. Toilets are neat..most of the time. No idea on shower rooms. Shower costs 50 cents. Haven't been inside the dry sauna, looks really small but fine from outside. Perfect for beginners and occasional gym training. There are also the muscle marys who appear regularly. So really for everybody.

The cold immersion bath or little pool is really cold (that is the way it is meant to be). There is a private outside sitting area as well for use in summer. Everything is perfectly functional and the facilities are adequate. You can rent towels and robes at the counter and there is a small pantry offering tea, juices, sandwich, shakes and warm soup (vegetarian of course). The sauna including the dressing or changing room is mixed gender. Tuesdays are vrouwendag (women's day) and the sauna is closed on Wednesdays. There is no bath suit day. The prices are more than reasonable. It is about half the charge when compared to Deco. The sauna has a massage room on site which is leased to professional masseurs. You have to make an appointment if you plan to get a massage. Don't expect to find grandeur, luxury and spa like atmosphere. It is sufficiently small place and there are no other sauna rooms apart from the dry sauna & steam room. The atmosphere inside can be improved further to give it a cozy feel. There is a local feeling and casual atmosphere to it, like the around the corner neighborhood place and there are lots of regulars. The sauna is staffed mostly by volunteers and they are friendly. After Fenomeen closed, this has become the best alternative.

A 4* for effort though: the manager/instructor was ever so friendly, it's still a stylish gym, smaller though than on Wibautstraat, and the guy at the counter was also quite helpful and very friendly. (Take notes, angry wibaut birds...) Anyway I guess in the end I did have a proper workout i needed so badly, humbug. I am hoping to have a proper lazy class tomorrow though. Ps here you can wear your skanky tank tops (more perverts at Wibaut maybe?) Oh and maybe i overlooked but it would be great if there was a cleaner and paper cloth in sight to clean those sweaty palm and butt prints (people, sit on your towel, please...)
