Among the events of the centre there are: Buddhist festivals, tea ceremonies, garden parties with musical or theatrical performances, music events, reading circles for Buddhist texts, exhibitions, courses in traditional Japanese arts, lectures , film presentations, etc. Anyhow, they have this beautiful Japanese garden in the Temple grounds, a peaceful oasis and a must visit in Düsseldorf, makes you think you're in Japan. To get there you can take the U-bahn to Heerdter Sandberg and walk for about 10 minutes. Otherwise you can take a bus to Niederkasseler Kirchweg and walk for 3 minutes (I saw the City tour hop-on hop-off bus also stops here).

Okay, I didn't get to see all of the gardens, but then again this place is basically a park, well sort of - there doesn't seem to be any open spaces for picnics, but then again that probably isn't a German thing and I probably can't compare parks in Australia to those in Germany even though the park was establishd a while back in my mind it is a park, probably not hugely touristy, but nice enough for an afternoon stroll. Oh, it also has a pretty large lake with birds in it so alles gute.

I'd managed to see a couple of animals (some Rotwild and Wildschweinen) but was thinking about having a beer somewhere not particularly enjoying myself when my path was blocked by a couple of large vehicles and a bunch of guys stood around with chainsaws looking (and I suppose in a way sounding) like a group of really bad guitaristsgiving some wood hell. We asked, in German, if he spoke English, and made it clear 2 of the 3 of us didn't speak any German. To which he said yes, he did speak English... and then continued to exclusively speak in German for the entire tour; making NO effort to give us any information. When I translated 2 questions to ask him, questions about the sculpture/artwork around us; the answer both times was "I don't know". Save your euro and buy 2 beers/person instead.

My partner and I wanted to visit a Schloss during out trip in Düsseldorf, but we didn't want to go…read moreso far, so we decided to come to this one. We took the U-Bahn from the station Schadowstraße, it took us quite awhile to get here, I think it was about 30-40 minutes. it was quite nice way to check out the city anyway. First thing I saw was the Schloßweiher, quite a beautiful pond it got there, then I saw the palace Benrath, it looked just great together. After we got off the U-Bahn train, we walked to the palace have a closer look. It does remind me of the palace I have seen in Potsdam. The main colour of the both of palaces are in pink, Schloss Benrath is Baroque-style. It isn't so big, it doesn't take long to walk around the building outside. The main building is also a museum, if you need a ticket to visit inside. It got a really big garden at the back though, great place for a walk. There are some other small gardens around, nice as well. I also saw some people dress up just re-lived the old day, kind of cool. My friend told me that Benrath was used to be a small town outside Düsseldorf, but now is part of the Düsseldorf. When we were on the way to the S-Bahn station, I could see their very own shopping street which quite close to the palace, it is quite peaceful here. Before we left this place, we just found a place near the front of the palace and sat down, enjoy the sunset, it was wonderful time, we like it a lot.

We had a very enjoyable walk through Nordpark with a partly cloudy day and a recent rain. As long…read moreas we kept to the paths, feet stayed dry and the exercise was welcome. I very much wanted to see the Japanese Garden (Japanischer Garten) and with some GPS navigating, were able to make our way to it. Because it was late November, we were pretty much the only visitors and this added to the peaceful and serene nature of this lovely sub-park. A stone walking path, reflecting pools and a cute bridge made for photo opportunities to treasure. There are interesting outdoor sculptures throughout the park and the walks are absolutely lovely on a pretty day. If you're feeling like you need some sun and some trees and get away from the traffic and the sirens but you don't want to leave Düsseldorf, this is the spot. Five stars.
