We visited Zoobic Safari on Jan. 2nd, 2018 during our Philippines vacation. It was one of the highlights of our trip. I wouldn't say the actual zoo part of Zoobic Safari was overly exciting, although there were some cool parts, but the main reason we visited this attraction made our trip here well worth it. Watching the feeding of an actual Bengal tiger while up close and personal was worth the admission alone. Zoobic Safari is located in Subic Bay, with part of its name derived from where it's located. Subic Bay was home to a large U.S. Naval Base back in the 90s. In fact, my brother-in-law lived at the naval base when he was younger. Driving around the surrounding area prior to entering the park, it was cool to see remnant military buildings and other edifices that at one time served U.S. Navy personnel. One thing to be on the look out for as you're driving towards Zoobic Safari are free roaming monkeys that walk on the sides of the road or cross your path as your driving. I was lucky to see one on the side as it was walking towards foliage. Admission for Zoobic Safari is inexpensive like everything is in the Philippines and the price should be no factor when witnessing tigers eating inches from your face. When we visited, the park wasn't crowded, but I've heard that this place can be packed, so check with locals on when the best time to visit. We visited on a Tuesday during the holiday season, but it wasn't crowded at all. Zoobic Safari's setup is conducive to a very interactive experience with their animals. You start off in this circular gathering area where you can take pictures with a tiger, lion, and various other animals. Next, you take a self guided walking tour through a path lined with many animals such as birds, peacocks, donkeys, deer, bearcats, monkeys, camels, ostriches, miniature horses, zebras, etc. Zoobic was made for taking selfies and up close and personal photos with the animals. Also, there are stations where you can poke your head through and take funny pictures. Two highlights for me were the Lion Encounter and the Croco Loco, both of which you can take really close pictures of the lions and crocodiles. The main reason we visited Zoobic was the opportunity to be inside a jeepney while tigers come to the jeepney to be fed. This was truly an amazing experience. You literally drive through a dirt path that inhabits 4 Bengal tigers. Inside each jeepney is a park employee who has raw meat and who feeds the tigers through a small opening from the cage surrounding the jeepney. To see these ferocious animals chew on raw meat with their large, sharp incisors of teeth was just incredible. That experience alone was worth the price of admission. I only gave Zoobic Safari 4 stars because there were some attractions that didn't make sense such as their Eggziting Story exhibit, which featured eggs decorated with pop culture themes. Besides that, Zoobic Safari is a must visit whenever you're visiting the Philippines solely for the experience to see what a Bengal tiger could do to you if you weren't protected by a jeepney covered with a steel cage.

Crocodiles and tigers and birds, oh my! This isn't like any zoo you'll find in the U.S.A., which is not a bad thing. You'll see lots of cool indigenous birds and critters, get to feed chicken pieces to crocs and take a ride through tiger territory in a bus that the tigers constantly try to invade, which makes it fun. Will they get in this time? Stay tuned! My favorite part of the tour was getting to pet the binturong (locals call them bearcats). They are gentile, docile, lovely animals that like to be held and petted, and the TV show Maximum Exposure was correct: they smell just like Frito's Corn Chips. If you like Frito's, you're in luck. I loath the things, personally, but loved the binturong. For the price it was very much worth it, but it isn't an all day thing, and Subic is a long drive from Manila, so plan to stay a night and take in some of the many other available activities in the area. My best advice is when leaving, wait in the parking lot to exit with several other cars. We left as a solo car, and discovered a corrupt cop waiting to write false tickets for unsuspecting, decent folk; what he really wanted was a bribe, so avoid the hassle and join a caravan of cars when leaving.

Everybody deserves a little rest and relaxation every now and then. We all work our asses off just…read moreto earn a decent living for ourselves (and probably to afford the latest Samsung or Apple gadgets). And since I had a few days off from work because of the Holy Week, this only meant one thing - travel. PH First Travel & Tours encourages Filipinos to prioritize the sights and destinations on our own country before visiting the others. And for my holy week getaway, I took their Cagayan package and explored the beauty of the far north. The company features affordable packages in various destinations that can be reached via land travel so you don't have to go through the hassles of waiting for cheap flights. Their packages already include transportation, entrance fees, environmental fees, accommodation and the tour guides. All you need to worry about are the meals, snacks during the trip and of course, pasalubong. Coordinators, drivers and guides are very courteous, approachable and very easy to talk to. The transactions I made with them were totally hassle-free. The drivers even sponsored a round of red horse on our last night (don't worry, they weren't the ones who drove us home the next day). This company also continues to explore the Philippines and search for untouched and underrated destinations that hold a lot of promise, culture and potential. Since I have more holidays coming up, I wonder which package I'll book next...
