Today, I fought back against the hunger and wandered in Abokado, which is slightly outside my 500 yard wandering radius. Boy, I'm glad I did. Their offering is similar to Itsu; boxes of sushi, big tubs of soup and fruit juices, but they manage to deliver the same massive portion for about £2-3 cheaper. WIN. I grabbed a 'Simply Salmon' box (salmon sashimi, nigiri and maki) and a sweet chilli, salmon and fresh dill shwrap (same concept as a hand roll). Everything has the calorie, saturated fat and total fat count listed next to it on the shelf and by the looks of it, it was all fairly healthy. What did it all taste like? Fresh goodness. The rice was on the right side of chewy and not like the crumbly rice you get in Pret's pre-packaged sushi. The salmon was lovely - not quite melt in your mouth, but not bad for a lunchtime joint. The sushi box came with a rocket and carrot salad and I have to say that the rocket was quite strong, almost too strong. But that's clearly Mother Nature's fault, not Abokado's.

The salmon sashimi box comes with a salad (I didn't really want the salad just the salmon) it was good nevertheless, the salmon was a little warm, but that could have been down to having the soup on top =D The soup was really nice, to describe: miso, with veg and dumplings. Really filling and quite tasty. The juice was very random, it is fresh, so you do need to shake it up a few times, not sure if I am a huge fan of the juice, but it's cheaper than an innocent smoothie =) My order came to £11, which tbh put me off slightly, I would have preferred a meal at Wagamama if there was one near by :) not a cheap lunch if that's what you are after.

They asked other people - white people. I then asked for help and the woman was quite dismissive so I left the shop within five minutes. They seem to be more comfortable around their own white, middle class shoppers.That was my impression. Upsetting experience given that I had travelled from Bedfordshire to visit this shop. I went into a nearby Asian store and they had the same product so I bought three. Black family don't shop at the stores of people who don't respect us.

I was going to describe it as a health food shop, but that gives the impression that it's one of the many typically small ones dotted about London, but this place is more like a super healthy supermarket. It has a fantastic range of organic fruit and veg, meat and chilled items, but what's most surprising is the quality of their frozen food. You'll never have to feel guilty about eating microwave meals again as the ones here such as 'Halibut and Sweet Potato' are delicious (they have see-through covers so you know exactly what you're getting) and they're nutritionally balanced too. Perfect for after yoga when I'm too relaxed to bother cooking. They also have a great range of organic beauty products including fantastically fruity smelling Jason shower gels. You can even take in your old Ecover containers to fill up to save on nasty throwaway plastic. The staff are always smiling and often come over to offer help, but not in an annoying way where you feel like they're only doing it because they have to. These guys really are interested in nutrition! This comes in helpful in the natural remedies area where they're happy to go through all the products until you feel assured that you can find what you're looking for when you don't really know yourself. It's very shopper friendly, showing that eating well and respecting the environment doesn't have to be a specialist or difficult way of life and I really admire such a great attitude.

Although I love Fresh & Wild, there's nothing wrong with seeking an alternative and As Nature Intended is a great alternative to small chains like Fresh & Wild. I love their selection of fresh fruit, vegetables and juices. I bought some fresh fruit and veg from this place before and you can really taste the difference - tasty, fresh and organic. Yum! There are all the usual things here too - organic snacks and meats as well as little brands you can't get in the big chain supermarkets. I'm all up for supporting stores like this, plus you know what you're getting is fresh and *really* organic without a marketing campaign or Jamie Oliver's big face branded all over the products!

There are certain 'health shops' that look like they only offer a herbal remedy for hair loss or impotency and sometimes it's not worth it to find out. On a quick glance, this place looks very small dark and would have nothing of interest. But Planta is a wonderfully stocked alternative shop and a great addition to the area. Upon my first visit I spent quite a long time having a good old browse. From organic make-up, herbal teas and coffees, essential oils to Vegetarian, Vegan fresh and frozen food and free from alternatives. More than just Linda Mcartney but a really good selection of quick bites, staples and the good old vegetarian haggis! It's really well stocked and while a bit on the pricey side (as with any alternative health/food shops) it;s not extortionately priced. Our first trip I ended up walking away with some funky drinks out of the great selection, some Jasmine Tea, a chap stick and kale chips. Great finds. If you're looking for a particular something you're very likely to find it here. Now I've found Planta I'm sure I'll be a regular. Check it out - you wont be disappointed.

Deli and Delights has a nice selection of Blue Dragon soup, Seggiano sauce (makers of the best pesto sauce around) and loads of expensive chocolates. I felt fabulous shopping here.

You know when you've found love when you've found a shop that sells organic lime and tequila marmalade. The place is just outside Highgate Underground station and one of the first places I shopped when I first moved here. The place is small, not particularly pretentious but very artisan and supplies more simple things such as a small selection of frozen foods and toiletries. I try not to come here as I do tend to raid the antipasti and the weird and wonderful marmalade. So much quality so much temptation and worth a visit.

Peppercorns has so much under one roof, I don't know how they do it! So don't be turned away by it's itty bitty size, there is actually quite a lot in store! Everything is crammed to the ceilings with lots of options and choices. Wonderful baked goods, teas, cereals, vitamins, and lots of great refrigerated and frozen treats as well. They also have the best veggie burger selection I've seen in the city! If you are veggie, vegan, gluten-free, or simply health conscious, Peppercorns is your place. They sell everything from baking flours to toiletries, nut butters etc all of the alternative kind but healthier with less chemicals and other crap. Had a few leaflets at the till as well. I personally prefer Pancea in Watford, because it's a better shopping experience.
