Call the police and report it to Yelp. They need to shut him down. The Department of Consumer Protection is aware. He stole 9600 dollars from me. He also contacted two others on this same site and took their money.
Order of events:
1. I looked on Yelp for guaranteed home improvement contractors on February 5, 2024. Several contractors contacted me, but this one (ZL Renovations, 333 Main Street, Danbury, CT) contacted me right away.
2. Angelyz Zambrano, owner of ZL Renovations, asked what I wanted to do to my home and offered other services. I told him I only wanted a small bathroom with a walk-in shower. He told me he would quote me and that he would like to go to work to see everything. After I gave him my address, he came to my home. He said he could work within my budget and as quickly as possible.
3. Angelyz Zambrano arrived at my home on Monday, February 5, at 4:50 pm. He assessed my property and began showing me his LLC paperwork to verify his identity. He also gave me a view of his ID. He texted me at 10 pm to share he was going to send the contract and would start the next day at 8 am to demo my walls.
4. On February 6 at 7 am, I notified Angelyz Zambrano that he needed a permit before any demo. I told him I would work on the permit. He shared his awareness of needing the permit and came to my home to get 60% of the quoted $16,0000. I told him that I did not have the contract that he said he would give. He stated, "With the contract, I will obtain the permit from the city." After sending him the money, Angelyz texted me to say the construction plans would be sent to me by email. The plans were never sent. He started asking me about ceiling fans and to check my WhatsApp for a floor plan.
5. On February 7, He tried to get another $4000 from me by changing my request for the bathroom- stating that it would be a good investment and trying to take care of his client. I told him I could not afford the bathroom because I was a single parent with limited funds. Oddly, he went to put a screw in my fence and left.
6. On February 9, I contacted Angelyz Zambrano to find out when he would work on my bathroom and how long it would take. He shared that he would start on February 12 and finish in one week. I took the time off to be at home.
7. On Sunday, February 11, he asked me for $600. Now I knew something was off. I called him out on it because he told me this was included, and he had done the work. He stated that the message was not for me but for another client.
8. On February 12, he showed up at my home with store materials and shared that my home would get dusty. (It did get very dusty, triggering my son's asthma and having to leave my home). There was no air filter or anything while his employees were working. This was also the same day that one of his employees was found sleeping in my basement at 8 pm on a bench. I was livid because a grown man was hiding in my home. I asked him how much longer to finish. He responded another 8 to 10 days because of snow.
9. On February 15, I checked in again on the permit because I noticed the framing was near completion. Argelyz said he would take a copy, but I called the town, and there was no permit. Argelyz said again that he had a copy to let him assemble the walls.
10. On February 20, I told him I would fill out the permit and remove it from the remaining 40% owed at the end of the project. He shared that he has yet to hear back from the secretary who was working on it. I then asked for a copy of the construction plan for the town. Argelyz gave me a random floor plan of a bathroom. The city notified me to stop all work in my home. I notified Angelyz Zambrano of the town's request. He asked me for the town's address so he could go there and do the paperwork that day. He did not go.
11. On February 22, 2024, Argelyz texted me to say they may start work on Monday because they will have the permit. I asked for a copy and could see online that, once again, there was no permit. He said he would send the permit to me.
12. On February 27, I asked what the plan was for completing the bathroom, as my son was getting very sick. He responded that "they" went for the permit and would give it tomorrow. He also stated he would bring an air machine and change my air filter.
13. On March 1, I asked again about the status of my bathroom and the permit. I shared that I was upset because it was unprofessional, and the dust was everywhere. I shared that by the end of the week, I would have to find someone else. He said he would have the permit on March 5 and come to my house. I told Monday was the last day before I took this to court, which I hate to do. He apologized for the inconvenience and assured me that it would be Monday.
14. On March 5, I went to the town to see if anyone had shown up to initiate a permit. They declared that they would be doing an investigation of my. home.
15. I let the town into my home on March 6, and this is when I learned of the code violations, unlevele read more
