I wanted to relax and deal with some neck pain, and after a lot of research, I landed on SOMA. They were able to fit us in on my birthday proper, and although they didn't have joint rooms for a proper couples massage, I was happy to know he was getting pampered down the hall. They were also accommodating and able to push our appointment a bit when we realized we were running late. Amy was a dream. She integrates holistic bodywork into her practice, and it was just what I needed. She was so intuitive and understood exactly what kind of pressure and strokes I needed, and I left feeling so refreshed and like I was walking on a cloud. Amy was very friendly and warm and we chatted a bit but not too much; just the perfect amount. My partner also really enjoyed his massage and felt looser and more agile. He had one of the male therapists (maybe Dominic - sorry we can't recall!). The spa lobby is quiet and serene and the massage rooms are set up for total relaxation. You can customize things like table temperature and sounds to make it the best for you. Parking is also readily available on the street. Highly recommend! If we were local I'd become a regular.

Dominic allowed me to choose a genre of music to listen to which was such a nice touch. I had never had that experience before. We chatted prior to the massage about what I was hoping to get out of the massage and certain areas I wanted to focus on. The massage itself was great and I felt so much better afterwards. As always, the time went so quickly. No complaints at all. There is some free street parking. The entrance is handicap accessible, as are the rooms and bathroom. I will definitely be coming back!

They have the big comfy chairs for you to relax in. Unlike some foot massage places in Atlanta, where there is a big room with lots of the comfy chairs, they had smaller rooms with pairs of the chairs (and a massge table in case they need to do body work). I thought this was great so we could enjoy our foot massages without other people around. The husband and I practically melted away after our long day walking. Here they did the traditional foot soak, but while you are soaking your feet, they rub your neck and shoulders. It was bliss and the hot soak felt great on my feet. Then the massage began. The guy that did my massage had the perfect touch: firm without being too much. This place was more pricey than what I've experienced in Atlanta. I felt ok about this since this place is right in Downtown Portland, where I am sure the rent is pretty high. Plus the massage was so awesome I felt like the price was justified.

I took my fiancé here because we were sore from moving. One star goes for the actual massage. The lady massaging me put in effort, and did an ok job. The reason this place is UNACCEPTABLE is it is DIRTY, literally filthy. It is very apparent that the massage table linens are not changed each massage- if ever. The linens had left over lotion, hair, and what appeared to be mucus on the region near my head. The towels that you are supposed to drape over yourself are also laden with lotion from other massages. I wanted to leave immediately but my fiances table was not as bad, and he begged me to stay. I could not enjoy the massage at all and ubered home immediately to get into the shower as soon as possible. DO NOT go here. I could not be paid enough to return. Truly unsanitary and disgusting.

As soon as she started working on me, I recognized that Thai Massage is more than a job to her, it is a craft. It is something that she actively studies, and as I later learned, has been actively studying for many years. Many therapists go to massage school for a year, then go to work, taking an occasional, often random class to learn something new. Jessica, on the other hand, consistently fine-tunes her work, works with a master to improve her abilities in Thai massage and Thai medicine. It's the difference between going to playing basketball in college for a year and then doing 7 years of pick-up games with your coworkers, vs. getting consistent coaching with a professional basketball player for 7 years straight. You get Really Good. This is a longwinded way of saying that I really respect Jessica's work, as well as her approach. Our session was both relaxing and effective. She did point-specific, deep tissue massage work in a way that was engaging, comfortable, fascinating, and peaceful. All I could think throughout the session was "How is she doing this?" and "Can I get this three times a week??" Also, she works in a really cool house that's been converted into a healing arts center. That was pretty awesome. Cheers!

I love to describe my experience with Jessica as a cross between a massage and a stretching work out - but one where I don't have to do anything! I really feel that receiving thai massage from Jessica is such a huge gift to my body, and really has helped me tune in and connect to my body, and move forward with some of my body issues. I've discovered where some of my little trouble areas are (and not so little!), and have learned a lot about how to relax more successfully. And, to top it all off, the fact that Jessica is also a yoga teacher that is able to give me customized yoga positions after knowing what exactly my body needs, is the icing on the cake. On top of all that, you can tell that Jessica truly cares about your body, and treats it in a loving, nurturing, affirming way. And is completely focused on helping you get what you need to progress into full harmony with your body & self.

Sandra is by far the most phenomenal massage therapist I have ever encountered. We had be usual pre-massage consultation where we discussed what was going on for my body, my line of work, and the general "what's up?" that would help Sandra figure out where to begin. She immediately knew how to address an injury that has baffled many physicians, chiropractors, acupuncturists and physical therapists. Sandra is an amazing communicator, which I find essential to a successful session. Throughout our session Sandra continued to ask very specific questions pertaining to my injury, and make connections to other facets of life, etc. I could tell she was just hell-bent on getting to the bottom of the issue. After the massage was finished, we spent a good 15 minutes going over anatomy charts where Sandra walked me through the varying muscles, ligaments and joints that were the likely culprits of my injury. We discussed next steps and created a plan of action that would see me through back to a pain-free existence. I discovered a decade ago a very firm leg massage (not foot massage) turns me from hobbling in pain to ready to run a mile and is the only thing that works. I hadn't had a massage in a long time and after 6 months the pain was disturbing my sleeping, so I visited Susie for the first time. After her work the result was: 1. an hour later the pain was gone. 2. 3 months later (with no change in routine, the pain was still gone) 3. a year later I did go back as the pain returned a bit, but considering I've gone to other massage therapists and returned a month later or walked away with no change this is a major improvement and I never expected it to be permanent. 4. after the massage I felt like she pulled my body apart and put it back together. While she was doing the leg massage she also covered my neck, head, arms, back, since all the body is connected (hint: avoid a masseuse who just does the legs or feet but nothing else) and discovered a point on my back that was really full of tension. She was right. I hadn't told her about it. She's that insightful. A month later I went back for a follow-up polarity therapy session. I never had one, but was amazed how it was the perfect follow-up to the previous work. Susie knows her stuff. She's brings a holistic approach to the bodywork. I find sports massage too clinical, so Susie is perfect with a great environment. Just one table and its just her. She's also enjoyable to just be around. For those who are modest everything is covered. I can't recommend her enough and then a bit more.
