One of the best Polish regional restaurants in Zakopane!!…read more Karczma przy Młynie is located a little bit outside of the main town/main street of Zakopane, only 5 minutes away by car. The atmosphere is very warm and cozy, the decor is very typical for the mountain region in Poland. Great heavy wooden tables and chairs, wood burning stoves, fireplaces, stone walls. Everything we ate in Karczma was delicious and the portions absolutely satisfying! We tried couple different dishes including potatoes, sausages, goulash, potato pancakes with mushroom sauce! Yum! - take a look at the pictures I uploaded :) The service was very nice and helpful. I highly recommend Karczma przy Mlynie for your lunch or dinner when you're visiting beautiful Zakopane!

That alone makes this place awesome. Easy parking, the building makes you feel like you're in 16th century with dinner by candlelight only, it was hard to read the menu because candlelight is dim but part of the fun and experience. The bacon salad, soup, and pierogis were amazing. Then the village sausage and baked potato with garlic sauce for an entrée, all were done exceptionally well and tasty plus they came out fast. This was my first try at authentic polish food, or what I like to believe is authentic polish food and it was all amazing! Go to this place.

I did not look at reviews or anything else, sometimes a place just sings to you and this place had a soprano like an Operatic singer from beginning to end. I cannot imagine where the crescendo ends and begins because this place is buzzing with activity. Hats off to ALL the staff because every single woman, and I say that because I never saw a "male" servant the entire time, for running around up/down the small 2nd level balcony seating with plates o'plenty. I can say this because I had a birds eye view right next to the "fireplace" which is near the staircase. Hands-down, this is the best Pierogi Ruski I have ever had. I even dissected it to see where the flavors began and ended and it looked all the same!! I am floored and in awe of the cook here or "cooks." Thank you. I drove here from Krakow to Zapilnie to Zacopane and we landed here for dinner and you did not disappoint in ANY aspect. Your service - 10 stars Your food and wait time - 10 stars Your flavor and drinks - 11 stars Quite honestly, this is and will always be "my place" to go when I am in Zacopane, now I understand the wait out the door. We passed it once for this reason and kept walking and then we circled back to see if the line was gone. We were asked to wait maybe "2mins" at most at the door and these ladies took great care. During our 2 hour time here, I saw a lot which impressed me. I wish all service met this level. The staff travel up and down stairs with trays all day and they maintain this positive level of service. On top of this, the decor and music is excellent. I adore this place and will be back for Christmas. Dziekuje! Thank you!!!!

The local cheese and meat starter was tasty and abundant. The pork cheeks special was flawless. Service was helpful, friendly, and polite although very busy. When I arrived, I went into town for dinner on my own. I walked on Krupowki Street to check out other spots and there were plenty of choices, but none seemed as lively or as popular as Stek Chalupa. It has indoor and outdoor (with blankets) seating. I got a table inside and didn't realize at the time that I would have a front-row seat to hear some local folk musicians who were on break when I arrived. The menu was extensive and there was a lot to choose from. After a full day of traveling, my eyes were bigger than my stomach - thankfully my waitress told me she thought my order was too big and steered me toward two of my three items. I'm so glad she did as it was the perfect amount of food and really nice options. I had the "highlander potato pancake" which was a stone baked potato pancake that came with garlic butter or local sheep's milk cheese as accompaniments. I preferred the cheese and while these weren't the traditional sort of potato pancakes I grew up eating from my grandmother, they were quite good. The pierogis themselves were outstanding - maybe the best I had while in Poland (and trust me, I had a LOT of them!). I washed them both down with a Polish beer. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming and the service was attentive and helpful. Prices were great for the quality and quantity of the food. I would definitely return to Stek Chalupa if I ever have the privilege of returning to Zakopane.

There were two rooms and I sat in the long one (the ceiling arc reminded me of a tunnel for some reason) with the duck mural. The menu contained lots of Polish dishes and a dedicated duck section. A duck and pickles appetizer was served gratis. It spread easily on the accompanying slices of bread and was nice. I've not had duck presented like this before and when I piled a couple of the smaller pickle pieces on top the tartness added more complexity for the flavors. I'd order this if it was on their menu. Zurek soup tasted a little tangy and was filled with sausage, mushroom, potatoes plus a whole egg and was delicious. I wasn't sure what to expect but all the different ingredients made for an enjoyable bowl. The bread bowl also contributed by thickening the soup as it abosrbed the broth. The duck breast with smoked plum sauce was thick, cooked medium and very tender. There was a little too much sauce for me but I liked the different taste. The side of glazed carrots and peas had a hint of sweetness and completed the dish along with the potato gnocchi. Service overall was good and efficient. Would return.

The service was attentive and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We dined around 4pm so we were seated right away but we were told that the other side of the restaurant was already booked for reservations starting at 5. I suggest making a reservation if you plan on dining at a typical dinner time. This was also on a Tuesday so I imagine they are quite busy throughout the week as well.
