    10/5/22 Beef Ball Dumpling
    Lee D.

Duplicate Yelp, one for each concept/business??? Sorry, but I am so confused... Was I in the city (SF)? Or LA? Way too trendy for Alameda. SAGA - "Locally-owned virtual food hall" Slurp shop - Ramen Yue club - "Authentic Cantonese Dim Sum Cuisine" Koharu - Japanese Cafe Quality/Quantity - Food was 5 stars! We ordered one dish from each business concept: Kohara - Chicken Karaage, hit of the meal. Deep fried, so slightly biased... If you are following, you know I love deep fried food. Good flavor, and the sauce was the bomb. Slight hint of heat, but NOT overwhelmingly spicy. SAGA - White Tiger, smaller than expected, but the flavor was on point, better than expected. Slurp Shop - Meyer Lemon Shio, flavors were good, including the broth. Expected serving size for the quality and price, but more than enough for a single meal. Yue Club - Beef Ball Dumpling, plating could have been better, but again the flavor was spot on. Additionally, the quantity was expected for the quality. Atmosphere - Food hall concept??? Virtual food hall concept??? First time here, but the lady that greeted us did not seem to care. Was told to NOT move chairs around and order through the app on the table. Normally it is pretty easy, but since there are 4 concepts/businesses here, it was not as user friendly as one would expect. Small local business or businesses, not sure how many businesses are here. Cool decor. Robot to deliver our food, which was NOT necessary??? So other than the entertainment value, no additional service. We also watched a couple other customers NOT know how to "finish" their service with the robot, etc. Plus one customer ordered ramen and it spilled on the robot. Street parking, no problem as we came late at night. Numerous to-go orders, very consistent, congrats. Kitchen staff working hard, and plenty of kitchen staff. I saw at least 5 team members. Not sure if that is due to the 4 concepts/businesses. Open 5 days a week from 11:30am to 8:30pm, closed Mon & Tue. Service - N/A, self service. Had to get our own sauces, utensils, and napkins from a self-service station. The phone website where we placed and paid for our order predicted our food to arrive 29 minutes after ordering. After 30 minutes, our food started to slowly arrive. We got our last dish almost an hour later. And it did not come in the order of appetizer and then entree. It came as it was made. Price - $54 + tip. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 2020. We will be back for the food. Can I suggest adding some human customer service? At least say hello and smile as customers walk through the door.

3 stars for the food. 4 stars for the delivery convenience and the packaging! Saw the 4 stars for the Yue Club and had to try it. The har gow was a good size and tasty. Truffle Siu mei meat seemed kinda airy to me -- not like real pork and I didn't taste any truffle flavor? Loved the black bean sauce spare ribs. The fried tofu shrimp wrap was a surprise to me as I was expecting it to be pork with shrimp but was purely shrimp with a drier tofu skin wrapper. The Shanghai dumplings were good. The potstickers were good as well. Nice to find a new place to order dim sum In Alameda but I thought it was ok. The packaging was adorable though and delivery was quick.

Yue Club is one of the restaurants located within SAGA Kitchen which operates Koharu, Sachi Sushi, Wok Chi, and Yue Club. It may be confusing at first but you can order from any restaurant menu when you're there, they also serve coffees. The restaurant is decked out with Supreme which gives off a pretty hipster vibe. Parking isn't hard and there is plenty of street parking on both sides of Lincoln. I came here for a Yelp Elite event and I ordered from another one of the restaurants but I've been on search for the best place to get XLBs in the bay so I had to try these out. It was almost $10 for 6 pieces and it came out pretty quickly. They also take Apple Pay which is always convenient. The XLB came with a small side of red vinegar sauce and I accidentally poured it all on my XLB. It was still pretty soupy But didn't burn my tongue because it was cold out and not piping hot. I'd definitely want to try more of their dim sum in the future!

The vibe is not so welcoming, i feel like i need an invitation to come in, no hi or welcome in! the lady behind the register made face when i asked for the receipt. Food is ok. Mediocre to say. Packaging and presentation is nice.

Dim Sum Set Meal + Fried Tofu Skin with Shrimp and Lotus Leaf Rice
    Anita W.

I had a craving for dim sum and Yue Club popped up as a suggestion nearby for takeout. They are operating out of saga kitchen and have a limited menu. However, you can get the really basic staples like har gao and siu Mai. I ordered: dim sum set meal (shrimp dumplings, black truffle siu Mai, salted egg yolk buns, Shanghai pan fried buns, and beef chow fun) Fried tofu skin with shrimp Lotus leaf rice I am left craving good dim sum from elsewhere. I came home and realized my order of salted egg yolk buns was missing in my dim sum set! I took it as a loss since I didn't want to drive back. What's also unfortunate was my sui mai being raw in the middle. Also, if you look at the picture of the siu Mai, there was barely any black truffle in sight and I didn't taste the truffles. Lastly, what was deceiving was their lotus leaf rice, which had a picture of sticky rice lotus leaf wrap (lor mai gai) and I thought I was ordering that but didn't get that. I pretty much got fried rice. If you do end up ordering here, double check your order before leaving the premises and make sure your food is cooked through!

Soup dumplings w/ 2 injectible red vinegar vials. Also black steamed buns with lava salted egg yolk, shrimp ha cao, pork/shrimp xiu mai.

Yue club is part of a food collective called Saga Kitchen that includes a handful of different asian cuisines. Yue's focus is on dim sum. Went here for their dim sum set meal $40 and we were served by a robot waiter. It seems like a cashless venue, as you order and pay by clicking on a QR code located at each table. There are about a handful of tables outside on the sidewalk and they have 4 hooks on the wall outside for pet leashes above a synthetic grass carpet - so you can enjoy a meal outside with your pets beside you. Dim sum was good with quality ingredients for all the dumplings. The Dim Sum set came with 6 soup dumplings that had 2 red vinegar vials that you can inject into your dumplings. Also pictured: 3 black steamed buns with lava salted egg yolk, 4 shrimp ha cao and 4 pork/shrimp xiu mai in the steamer basket. The black ceramic platter contained 4 pan fried meat bao buns (really perfect sear and crispy bottom combined with fluffy steamed bao bun wrapper) and a crispy tofu wrapped roll (cut into 4 pieces) that contained shrimp inside. This is plenty for 2 people, good for 3 to share, and enough for 4 to taste and nibble or snack on. It was nice to sit outside too. Inside has about 7 to 8 tables for dining. Note: utensils, napkins, soy sauce, clear chili oil are inside and do not come out with your food in the Robot waiter - so be sure to pick those up beforehand. The only thing I wish they improve on is the type and amount of dim sum dipping sauces available. There was only soy sauce and red chili oil (vinegar only comes with soup dumpling orders). No mustard or chili sate/pepper flakes. It is overall a decent deal for all the dim sum you get though!

Their egg blossom soup is the best . I've only gotten soup here but the best I've had coast to coast hands down. So fresh, add veggies and extra green onions. You won't be disappointed, oh and the vibe is real hip and cool too.

Shanghai Pan Fried Bun, House Made Xiao Long Bao, Black Truffle Siu Mai minus the black truffle?
    Nicole L.

I preordered from here in addition to the Yelp Elite perk from last week. Preordering felt like a nightmare. The website leads you to UberEats which only provides delivery, no pickup, but an option to order the salted egg yolk bun. Tried calling the number listed 3 times during hours and no answer. I ended up ordering via Yelps GrubHub but there was no option for the egg yolk bun. I arrived for the event and only had to wait a few minutes for this order. Everything tasted amazing and my 9 yo son loved it as well. A couple things were missing though and I should've checked my bag before I had left. The black truffle siu mai had no black truffle... I noticed that some people had the black truffle topping and many others didn't. I thought maybe the filling was infused but none of us noticed any truffle flavoring. We also had no sauces included in our order... no soy sauce, chili, or the vinegar sauce that typically comes with the XLB. Such a bummer because this just enhances the flavors of the dumplings.

    Delivery presentation!
    Katie D.

10 points for presentation! The salted egg yolk buns are delicious and so strikingly beautiful. The yolk custard inside is so sweet and gooey. I would order a box of just those! My partner and I ordered the dim sum meal to try a variety and it was yummy. I think there could be a bit more variety of textures and flavors, but overall a good experience.

    Chicken (?!?) Fried Rice

When the best thing you can say about a restaurant is the food didn't make you physically ill... Houston, we have a problem. We ordered from here after seeing that a new spot had opened in what USED to be Alameda's best Chinese - Alice Bistro. Hoping against hope that it was the same folks/cooks, we gave them a shot one night when we were craving a bit and had no energy to cook AND Xing Yuan was closed. Long story short? With the limited menu, we were expecting the dishes to all hit, especially at launch. I don't care if the food arrives a bit cold or anything like that, but if I'm paying more than $10 for an order of fried rice... It can't be this creepy monstrosity as pictured. The chicken looked for the life of me like fried tofu chunks, so at first i thought the order was simply mistaken. But when i bit down, and that salty hammy "cheaaaaaaaaaap chicken bits" taste hit, ugh. Also, somehow despite ALL these factors, the dish was completely bland - WHAT IS TURNING THE RICE BROWN?!? Not joking when i say i would strongly recommend picking up whatever passes for fried rice from the frozen section of Safeway before ordering from these guys again. The other shoe to drop? The fried rice was the BEST dish. They got progressively worse from there. The orange chicken was... Well, I've never had chicken shaped like mini pizza slices, that tasted like really meaty taffy before. Anyway, one star for being open in covid times, not messing up the order, and delivering on time; one for not making my family violently ill... And that's it. No more stars for you. The pricing is just flatout CRAZY given the competition and the quality of the food here. To be clear, if every item on the menu were $3-4 cheaper, this would probably be a solid 3 star restaurant. But yeah, if it's gonna be this bad, it's GOT to be cheap. I'm now doubly sad Alice Bistro is gone, and replaced with this travesty. As always, i hope they turn it around and stick it out... But without my help, for sure, for at least six months.

    Xlb dumplings
    Alicia A.

Late post... Sorry i had ordered this back in January, as well as Sachi Sushi but had reviewed them and not Yue Club. Ordered from here as I was also attending the Yelp elite event, we got the dim sum set meal. It looks like some of the selection changes as to what their availability is. Our description for the set meal was shrimp dumplings, house XLB buns, siu mai, egg yolk lava buns, and beef chow fun. What we received was the pan fried buns, xlb dumplings, siu mai, shrimp dumplings and the chow fun. The dim sum set meal doesn't not include the chow fun now. There was a bit of hiccup with the order but they were able to rectify it very quickly. The dim sum was hot and tasty. It came it a cute packaging and presented nicely. Everything was tasty and I'm not a huge fan of siu mai but I think the truffle change my mind about it. The pan fried buns were devoured by the kids and they really enjoyed it, I was looking forward to trying the egg yolk lava buns, oh well..... there's always a next time.

I've had a few unfortunate (and slightly traumatizing) encounters with off-tasting sauces during the pandemic, so now I always do a cautious smell-and-taste check first. They also serve "tofu fa" (tofu pudding) with a sweet ginger syrup, which was a pleasant surprise. It's one of my favorite desserts and not something you see often at dim sum spots these days since it's not in high demand. Definitely brought back some nostalgic, childhood vibes. Just a heads up, this place gets busy quickly. If you can, try to arrive within the first hour after opening. Otherwise, be prepared to wait a bit, it's popular for a reason.

The attached parking garage charges $2/every half hour. Granted, this is no where near SF parking rates, it's still an additional fee. Street parking is super hard to find, and the streets are hectic, but you can test your luck (and patience). They use little tokens now that you have to pay for before exiting. Make sure you hold onto it because a lost token will run you $48 for the day rate. 2. The spot is poppin. It's not a complaint, that's a great thing! However it's really small inside so if there's a wait, you do have to line up in a single file line along a divider wall, where you can watch diners eat. Right next to you is the take out line for BBQ orders. It can get really claustrophobic. Tables do move fast as they're quick to bring out food, however you may be asked to just share a table with someone else. They have a couple round tables for the communal dining, or larger groups (up to 8). This is an ideal spot for 2-4 people. 6+ may cause you to wait longer for seating. 3. The tap water tastes kind of weird. They bring you a hot cup of tea too but the herbal taste is a bit too strong for me. 4. The bbq items are just okay :( I did a 3 item bbq combo with rice for about $21. You get a generous portion of meat, rice and a few pieces of steamed Chinese broccoli (gai lan). No sauce to dip or anything, but they do have a black bean sauce on the table to use. The sauce is pretty salty though, so just keep that in mind when you're adding it on. No spicy condiments on the table unfortunately. The duck was decent, but the bbq pork was a bit too lean for me. It wasn't overly sweet though so that was nice. The roast pork wasn't crunchy at all!! For some reason, they thin sliced it, instead of cut it into cubes. I love roast pork for the crunch so this was disappointing. The skin was more chewy than crunchy. All of the meats were tender though! 5. Fresh shrimp rice roll was hot and steamy and the price is cheaper than some dim sum spots ($7.50 for this one i think). However, you also get less shrimp. The sauce poured on was also kinda thin, and not sweet or umami enough. The rice roll itself had a good chew though, silky but a little thick. It holds up well while eating. The proportion go shrimp to rice noodle is waaaay off though. 6. Wonton noodle soup was good! This seemed like the crowd favorite as most everyone ordered this. The noodle could have had a bit more chew to it, but the wontons were bouncy and the broth comforting. You get a couple pieces of chinese broccoli with this too which is nice. The service was efficient and our main server was nice. She spoke english and actually smiled back. They take card payment too, so that's convenient. You really get some bang for your buck here, but I'd probably stick to taking food to go.
