They teach the kids songs, science, social skills, arts and crafts, counting, alphabet, potty training, communication, gardening, etc. Child development students from the University also help put on a Mardi Gras party and a Halloween party each year. This is a Tulane University daycare but there are spots available to the community. Get on the waitlist early, like in pregnancy if possible! Newcomb has been open since 1926 and their commitment to your kids has quite a history. It's a "Class A" daycare. Parents are very hand's on. Teachers are sweet and caring. Ms. Deidre rode with my son to Children's Hospital in an ambulance when he had a febrile seizure at school. I rushed to the ER to find them being rolled in, Deidre sitting on the gurney holding my poor sick baby. Will never forget that act of kindness! It really is a second family/home for your kid. Buggy rides, water play, Ms. Karen's cooking....! The list goes on and on! Highly recommend!

Newcomb Children's Center is not even in the category of bad. I am so happy my daughter got a chance for a spot at NCC when she turned 2 years old and had issues at another place we went to before NCC. People who work here are selfless and hard working people keeping this place running and doing so with so much love and professionalism. Since day one they made my baby and (what is very important) me feel secure and safe. They have activities scheduled for kids for every hour of the day. They learn so much while they play! Ms. Debbie is amazing as well as ms. Julie and all other teachers and staff. Ms. Debbie knows all the kids by name, very attentive to each and every person who step into the building. My baby's development went up as soon as she started going to NcC. She loves going there and doesn't want to leave...if you would know the situation we were with our old daycare you would understand how big of a difference it makes. I can go work without feeling scared for her well being or guilty for leaving at place she doesn't like. My daughter adores her new school and we couldn't be happier she is there. I wish she could stay there until she is 7 yo! They always clean the spaces, beds, sheets and toys, especially when there has been virus going around. Communication between teachers, staff and parents are excellent as well. Lots of projects and events during school year. I wish to find similar place when we have to leave NCC.

Re: COVID-19 operations and safety practices…read more I gotta slow clap for y'all because I am loving the new implementation of the appointments online and how serious the JCC is taking COVID-19. Members of JCC Uptown are able to book appointments up to three days in advance for one hour block sessions. Everyone has to wear a mask upon entry and get your temperature checked. Per their constant email communications all members must arrive ready to workout (lockers are only available for bathrooms so no showers or storage purposes) and bring in your own towel and water bottle. They allow no more than 7 people at a time in the cardio room and around 8/9 in the weights room. Within the cardio room every other machine is shut down to practice social distancing. You'll also find plenty of marked disinfected and used cleaning sprays so you can wipe your machine before and after. Their team also cleans the machines CONSTANTLY. Like I seriously would get off the cardio machine wipe it down, just to then see them wipe it down again themselves. I feel safe coming here and appreciate there isn't a crazy occupancy capacity happening right now. TAKE MY MONIES. *Just know you will have to sign a waiver the first time you initially go during COVID-19, because liability and lawsuits ya know...

JCC Aqua Fit program has been declining for months. Suggestions by members to increase classes,…read moreupgrade equipment and replace instructors are ignored. Since the hiring of a new CEO a couple of months ago, several aqua fit classes have been canceled so the pool can be used for swim lessons for the child care center and summer camps. This has especially impacted the seniors who joined the JCC specifically for the low impact benefits of water aerobics. Since summer camps, swim lessons and pool parties generate significant income, It seems that the financial bottom line is more important than addressing membership in the "community center." Too bad, the aqua fit program affects at least 50 members who are the active adults who use the facility daily. Do not join for the aqua program right now. Hopefully we will be heard in the future and classes will be restored.

He absolutely loves Amigo Ames and looks forward to going to school everyday. The staff is very friendly, and they follow a curriculum so your child actually learns something. After the morning "class" they have lunch and get to play outside. Not only am I paying $100 less in tuition a month than what I would at his previous daycare, but I also paid $10 less for each of his uniform shirts. He's very happy w/ the change and the only thing I wish is that I would have enrolled him here from the beginning instead of making a switch so far into the "school" year.

But now that he's getting older, he needs more stimulation and more activities and more interaction than just being at home with family. So I decided to put him here, part-time. He goes here two days a week And this child development center has been a game changer for him. His speech is getting better, he's learning new words and phrases, and he loves all of the activities and playtime that is scheduled every day that he gets. This place is a little pricey, as it is almost $900 for two days a week, but I can walk there from my house, which is very convenient and he's not even a mile away from me while I'm working, which is important to me. So if there's an emergency, any flooding anything that would make me nervous about him being away from me, I can literally get to him very quickly and pick him up. This place is very much recommended as they are very secure, there is a code you must enter to open the door and they have armed police officers on the property for pick up and drop off. The teachers are very sweet and all of the administrative staff seem to know every child and parent by name. Highly recommended if you are willing to pay for the extra amenities. Oh, and I almost forgot, one of the best things that they have is an actual app where they send a push notifications when their diaper is changed, when they eat and what they eat, and when they take a nap. So you're able to see what your child is doing while you're away.!! And at the end of the day, they give you a detailed report of what activities they did and how they contribute to their developmental progress AND they add pictures of your child doing the activity!!

The staff here was great - they are very up to date in the technology they use. Check-in is quick and easy via computer at the front door, security is tight - there are security officers at the entrance to the parking lot and entering the facility required a code entered into a keypad. The classrooms are well kept up, clean and picked up at the end of each day. I found the teachers to be warm, excited to see the children, and willing to give extra attention when needed. One of the things I really liked was the app they used to post updates throughout the day - meals, diapers, naps and pictures were posted to keep you updated on what your child was doing every day as well as provide drop-off and pick up alerts. In her 6 months there her vocabulary grew immensely, she started learning letters, counting, colors and animals. I felt they were teaching her and not just watching her while I worked.

At that time, I thought was unfair, and unnecessary, but complied. Nevertheless, I enrolled my smaller children recently and I can see where the fundraisers have benefitted the school. Their academic program goes to the 5th grade, when I took my children out of the center, they were beginning the kindergarten program, so each year since, they have increased a grade. This is a family owned business and operates like a well-oiled machine. The daycare center is clean, my children are learning and have been there for 3 months now. My 3 year old has learned to recognize mostly all of his alphabet, write his name as well as recognize several sight words. My 2 year old knows all of her alphabet and counts to 20, and can sing several classic lullabies. The owners are on the facility daily and parents are able to speak with them randomly. They have an open door policy and are rated 5 star with the state. They recently expanded classrooms to implement a new program and construction was done over a weekend to 6 classrooms. Impressive! For the upcoming new school year they freshly painted and updated all classrooms. I love Mcmillan and am happy my children are in attendance here. The main thing that I am impressed with is that over 6 of the teachers that were employed there 5 years ago, when my older kids were there, are still there. I think that says a lot about management, especially since we live in a society where good work ethic is hard to find. I know that they will continue to expand and set a fine example within our community to offer excellent quality care and education for our youth. Thank you McMillian.
