I was frustrated as the coaches teach to the lowest level. Sometimes couldn't get a rally going with fellow players. Didn't work up a sweat. I sent email after email to Adam and Helen (whonis now gone) left phone messages asking if I could switch to a different group. Get a credit and do private instead. Maybe send my kids to a program and withdraw from the one that was getting me nowhere. Any compromise would have been welcome. But, no reply. Ever. It's also nearly impossible to do a makeup, they offer the opportunity last minute with few options. I

It has been going on for several weeks already, terrible service, disrespect for customers and their questions. We submitted an application for a child for a certain level, a certain day of the week and time, we chose from the list offered by the club. After the classes began, we realized that the child was put on a lower level without informing us, without conducting an evaluation. Explaining this by the fact that there is simply no place for our child. In response to my request for a refund, the management wrote back saying that this is not possible in accordance with the club's policy.

Location is just north of the clay courts on the grassy hill with some trees for cover and shade on the hill. Most people bring blankets because chairs are really only stable near the sidewalk or at the parking area at the top of the hill. Getting here is tricky if your map doesn't give good walking directions: GPS: 40.79786° N, 73.97636° W Arriving on foot- enter at 100th St, walk down and around a few curvy paths to find the bridge and underpass for the highway and then walk to the water and south from there to the courts. It's also possible to arrive by car in a small parking lot- but parking is limited and shared with tennis players so you'd want to arrive very early. The sound is projected into the hill; so it doesn't really travel too far beyond the picnic area and sometimes the sound team needs a little extra help, but the musicians are passionate and the scenery is lovely, so enjoy the free summer sounds and views!

The setting is gorgeous and I am surprised at how little wind we feel even though we're right on the river. The restaurant above it, which I know is separate, leaves something to be desired, so I would recommend one of the other restaurants in HOH instead. Areas for improvement include: - Court maintenance: TCH has a system of sweep if you want, otherwise one of the grounds keepers will sweep every once in a while. I think they should just institute a sweep the court once you're done rule because a) it doesn't seem good for the courts and b) seems like a really crappy job for the grounds keepers, at least one of whom seems like he actively resents it and takes it out on the poor brooms and occasionally, by being extremely rude to the players on the court. - Record keeping: When two of us signed up to be Diamond members, we asked if we could pay in installments, which the "management" agreed to. TCH seems to lack managers who prioritize organized record keeping because they did not charge us when they told us they would, and they often charged the wrong credit card. When I first asked for a receipt of payment, they asked why, and it took at least 3-4 additional calls for me to finally get a receipt of our payments. - Customer Service: Most of the front desk staff are pretty friendly, but there are things that some of them do that drive me bonkers. A friend of ours who lives in Brooklyn came and played as our guest several times when he visited on some weekends. TCH used the phone number he listed on the waiver form to essentially phone bank him to become a member. A) he lives in Brooklyn--why would he become a member, and B) I felt embarrassed that staff/management thought it was an appropriate practice to pester him multiple times a week for weeks at a time. He actually stopped answering calls from any 914 numbers because he thought it would be TCH. In addition, I feel that I have to remind some front desk staff repeatedly of who I am and that yes, I'm a Diamond member. Seems like once you pay your dues, the emphasis on attentive customer service fades a way a bit.

We both live in Flushing near Main St., so NYISC was a perfect place for us to travel to. The club inside was spacious and clean. Some of the staff greeted us as soon as we walked in and gave us a thorough and in-depth description of all the membership services and fees for ping pong games/coaching. The actual tables are professional-grade, and there are actually plenty of them spread throughout an enormous indoor facility. I liked the feel of the high ceilings while I played (or at least ATTEMPTED to play haha). Even though this place was popular on a weeknight around 7-8pm, the size of the facility didn't make me feel cramped. Checking out the rest of NYISC, I saw an indoor soccer field - which is a rare sight in a place such as Flushing. I don't play soccer, but I would recommend this space for soccer teams and friends looking to play a match or serious game. My boyfriend and I also wandered to the 'Pro Shop' in the sports club. They sold all different professional ping pong products from brands such as Butterfly (famous ping pong product manufacturer). We didn't purchase anything, but I did sign up for private lessons with one of the renowned & accomplished coaches. The pricing was for a set of 10 lessons and were more than affordable. The coaches were all world ranked, and have competed in Olympics, etc. Maybe one day I'll be able to at least keep up in a game with my boyfriend, lol. LAST THING: People here are very open and friendly. If you come on a weeknight like us or a weekend, there will always be staff to help you and fellow players/students to meet/interact with :) One person saw my extreme lack of ping-pong skills and kindly helped me out a bit the first time I came to NYISC -___- lols I will definitely be returning
