All I have to say is.. I'm a Pilates girly now…read more I am writing this review as someone who is in to fitness and trying out new workouts, but never before tried Pilates. I found Village Pilates on ClassPass and booked the "beginner mat" class the night before. Getting there- There is meter parking right in front of the studio and you ring the doorbell for an instructor to let you in. As a first timer, they asked me to fill out a waiver upon walking inside. They ask for some generic information like birthdate and home address, but they also have a space where you can notify them of any injuries or health needs that should be known before taking the class. When I wrote that I had scoliosis, Len checked in with me and said I should let him know if I feel any pain during class so that he can provide me a modification. The experience- I was pleasantly surprised by my ability to follow the instructors sequence and pacing. "Len" was the instructor for the beginner mat class. He was super patient and helpful in correcting any errors in my form in a kind and respectful way. Overall a great experience and I can't wait to go back!

I felt like every other participant in the class despite her noticing my belly bump. She didn't let me slack, she made sure I was positioned properly during every pose. I thought I heard her mention teaching kids as well. There are multiple instructors, classes at every level, and you can even participate virtually if you prefer. Social distancing takes place inside the studio according to the green markers on the floor. Masks are required. The studio provides space for your shoes and other belongings. I encourage all to check this place out! There's option to just drop in or commit to a membership. Next time I visit I'll be sure to take some pics!

After renewing my ClassPass membership on Cyber Monday, I decided to check this studio out with my good friend Alex F. Booking a class was super easy and we made our way to the studio on foot. Check-in was a breeze. We were greeted with a smile and received an overview of what to expect from the class. We got to borrow a pair of sticky bottomed socks for free. Our class was a full barre workout, which I had never done before. From the outside it looks like you're not doing much, since the movements are small, but believe me you will feel the BURN. The class pretty much flew by. The music was great and our instructor was really motivating. I would absolutely recommend trying them o

I spent many years reading about eastern philosophy, Buddhism and meditation and struggling to…read moredevelop a practice on my own. I also had a very demanding professional and personal schedule which made it difficult to fit a series of classes in my schedule. I looked at a lot of different options and determined that ZLMC was the best fit for me and started classes a couple of years ago when my schedule finally allowed it. I couldn't have been more pleased. In reading about Buddhism, among many great writers and teachers, I was always drawn to good western writers who journeyed east and returned home. Generally, they seemed to be able to focus on the essence what the Buddha taught without getting distracted by non-fundamental religious traditions and dogma added later. ZLMC is simple, comforting and approachable. It's designed to allow anyone of any religious tradition (or no tradition, agnostics or atheists) to simply learn how to meditate, how to develop a habit or practice of daily meditation into your life and how to use that gift throughout all aspects of your life and daily challenges to make improvements. The approach at ZLMC from Robert isn't to convert you to a new religion, but to gently and lovingly teach you a life practice that can benefit you psychologically, socially and physically. The approach is grounded in learning to love yourself and comfortably begin to peacefully, compassionately and patiently approach your life and the world as it is, not as your mind deceives you into believing it is. ZLMC is a Chicago (and beyond) treasure. Both Robert and June are wonderful teachers. I'm sure everyone's path and experience is different. However, if you are looking for a place that is compassionate, non-judgmental, not preachy and free from weighty dogma to learn a bit about meditation without being judged or pressured, I'd encourage you to take a look a ZLMC in Oak Park and sign up for a class!

I guess since this was Valentine's I was the only one who attended the class. Which was nice because this was my first time taking a Aerial Yoga Class. It gave me a chance to have an one on one time with the instructor. Amy the instructor was very calm and patient. She made sure that I was comfortable and relax. The Love Oil had an nice aroma scent in which she put a tab of it on the inside of my wrist. It really helped me to relax and stay focus. She dim the lights and we did some warm up aerial conditioning in the silk blue hammocks. It helped me to improve my balance and strength. No, lie I was a bit nervous but her calmness helped me to relax and gain confidence. The music was so soft and inviting to the atmosphere. Pineapple Dance Studio is a place where you feel calm and soothing. Professional instructor who is patient and take time to make you feel comfortable.

Belly Dancing? Me? When a friend suggested that I take up Belly Dancing, I could barely talk I was…read morelaughing so hard. After all, what the heck would I do with my hips? Well let me tell you- hips and tummy rule in this class and once you learn to isolate your core and move only the right parts, you actually feel like you can do anything. As for me? I didn't even know my hips could move like that. Somewhere inside all of us is a hip swiveling, gyrating dancer just waiting to get out! And once that music starts- you are hard pressed to do anything but move! I rarely tie anything around my hips (after all- they really don't need any more attention!) but here in this class- tie on a sparkly hip scarf and you are transformed! Classes are offered throughout the week with a beginner class on Wednesday and Saturday. And don't fear if you have never done this before- the instructor makes everyone feel welcome and trust me- there are others in the class who are worse belly dancers than you! Shocked the heck out of me! This has to be one of the most fun ways to get exercise that I can remember. My arms looked like twining snakes, circling my body and while my shimmy needs a little work (might be the age of my chassis- Ha!) by the end of the class I was one with the music! I can't wait to move up to finger cymbals! If Belly dancing is not your thing- Pineapple also offers Zumba, West African Dancing and Piloxing which is sort of a hybrid between Pilates and boxing. Dance classes run $18 each with the exercise classes costing $10 or you can buy a series at a savings. Also know that you need to pre register for the dance classes but you can drop in for Zumba and Piloxing. Belly dancing is the oldest recorded dance form. As Shakira sang in that song from a few years ago "The hips don't lie!. But trust me- in this class - they are certainly telling quite a story!
