My "go-to" spot for burgers has always been 5 Guys .. no more. Im usually picky when it comes to my burgers, especially thin ones that are usually cooked to well done. I got a double cheeseburger with grilled onions (i can usually put that down without a problem), I couldn't even finish it, but thats just because I was desperately trying to save from for the self serve frozen yogurt :) I'll be back sooner then later. read more

One year ago today, I went on a solo full-day biking adventure through the Bronx. Eating dinner at Yo-Burger was an easy decision based on its perfect 20-something yelp reviews, the price, and the fact that it had "burger" in the name. After eating at Tino's Deli near the NY Botanical Garden, exploring Pelham Bay Park and City Island, grabbing a beer at the Bronx Ale House, and eating S&S cheesecake in Van Cortlandt Park, I was ready for the burger. Rocky would have quailed at the sight of the stairs I had to scale in order to reach Riverdale Ave (or maybe it just seemed that way because I was exhausted and had to carry my bike). Either way, I felt like Kumar and Yo-Burger was my White Castle. The place is styled similarly to many froyo chains ("stylish" and clean-looking) with its logo everywhere. I ordered a double bacon cheeseburger and a vanilla milkshake from a very nice gentleman who gave me the same kind of "buzzer" that one would receive on a Saturday night at Applebee's in Times Square. This didn't seem necessary, as I was one of three customers at the time - which I think was because the place was fairly new. The weather was beautiful, so I sat at one of the 3-4 outdoor picnic tables. I had not had In-N-Out at the time, but I would later discover the similarities. The burger exceeded my expectations and then some. The shake was as good as I wanted it to be. During my return ride to Washington Heights, my mission was clear: spread the word. I could not believe that NO ONE who I asked had ever heard of Yo-Burger. Its remote location at the top of a hill in the North Bronx seemed very unfortunate, because so many people would never get a chance to experience this (much) cheaper, better version of Shake Shack and Five Guys. The quality of the burger, the confusingly cheap price, and my anticipation made for an unforgettable experience. Had nothing to eat from 1230 till 9 pm when i arrived so you know my animalistic beast came out ready to devour. As the doors swung open I floated through as if I was neo from the Matrix. The menu is pretty apparent and simple. You choose the type of burger, Whether it be fresh beef, lean turkey, or veggie burger. Everything fresh and cooked right in front of you. They also have hotdogs and milkshakes and don't forget frozen yogurt with plenty of toppings. Since it was cheat day for me I went with 4 cheeseburgers and 4 sets of fries. With each bite, I got hungrier and my chest hair grew ever so slightly. You can choose to sit either inside or outside. On a hot New York summer day, inside seems more ideal. The food was okay, nothing special. My boyfriend had the cheese burgers and said they tasted similar to that of shake shack but shake shacks burgers are better. He said the bread got a bit to saggy too quickly. We both liked the fries, those were really good! The veggie burger was a bit too mushy for my liking. Yay a GOOD burger place. Man if you had in n out burger this is definitely a good comparison. So I've been hunting for a burger spot for days and everything was too greasy and big. But this place was really on point. You walk in and to the left is froyo. Then straight ahead is the burger menu! Simple easy and you get to choose your toppings. I freakin love it. I usually get a burger with lettuce onion mayo. Fries and a chocolate shake. They give you a buzzer thingy and you're able to pick it up at the counter fresh. Burger is great. Fries are great. Shake hit the spot. And I love how fast the service is. Usually when I write my reviews I make sure to always try it a couple times before I go in. So yo burger gets a thumbs up. Very good burger place in Riverdale, when it first popped up I remember how clearly it reminded me of Shake Shack. That's probably the best comparison to make here. A fast casual spot that elevated the burger, fries and a shake concept to something very clearly of a higher quality than McDonald's and Burger King. When Shake Shack first came out it was all the rage, but as time has passed, and the novelty of a getting a pretty good hamburger in a fast food type setting wore off, it's not the type of thing people line up for anymore. Yet and still, a place like Yo Burger is a reliable place when I want to pick up a quick but quality burger in the Riverdale area. On a Friday afternoon, as one would expect, this place was packed with school aged children and what seemed like people fresh outta work and on their way home with take out from Yo-Burger. This place also serves frozen yogurt. Who knew? I ordered the single cheeseburger and sweet potato fries which were both AMAZING!!!! I love, love Yo-Burger. The food is fresh and tasty. I was craving a burger after my doctors appointment and found yo-burger. I came in and everything reminded me of shake shack. They even have the little buzzing system. The burgers looked and tasted exactly like shake shack. I wasn't complaining because I finally Felt like the Bronx had a shake shack lol. Come to find out, they get their product from same supplier as shake shack so that answers my concerns. Fries are nothing special, sweet potato are better to me. Do not get the grilled cheese. I don't know what they were thinking putting that on menu and serving it how it is lol. Been here more than few times, and feel day time is always better and tastes better. Legitimately my favorite place for burgers! They use fresh ingredients and taste just as good as Shake Shack, if not better. I say this because when you're churning out so many burgers like at Shake Shack, a bit of the quality is lost. I'm a no frills type of person when it comes to my burgers, so I keep it fairly simple when ordering (cheese, lettuce, tomato, bacon) - and when I do, everything about the burger needs to stand out. Yo-Burger is consistent w/the quality of their burgers, ensuring to leave just a bit of crispiness around the edges. YUUUM! That crisp is the best! I wouldn't say the price point is significantly lower than Shack Shack (maybe a difference of 10 cents), but I still think it's a good deal. The best kind of burger is a burger with crispy bits on the edges. Lil crispy circles of meaty heaven. Yo-Burger did this well-- WELL DONE. See what I did there? My double bacon cheeseburger was really, really good. The bun was sweet and pillow-y (that's a real word). Veggies on top were crisp and fresh. French fries are thick cut and nearly perfect-- a bit more salt please. Guys behind the counter were sweet and food came out relatively quickly on a Thursday evening. I wonder how much these guys have to stare up your nose and check out your sexy nose hairs because the larger menu is literally hanging 8 feet in the air above the register and you have to crane your neck to a backwards 90 degree angle to see it. May I suggest placing the menu on the wall near the register during your next remodel? Yo-Burger definitely needs to invent a secret sauce to add spice and mystique to their burgers-- some kinda ketchup, mayo, sriacha, mustard, relish blend? They offer burgers as well as turkey burgers, fries, sweet potato fries, and as the name of the place implies, frozen yogurt as well. Burgers are at least 80% as good as Shake shack and at a much lower cost with a much shorter wait and for me, a few blocks from home. Winner. Flat griddled burgers are crisp at the edges and beefy good and come on soft potato rolls with lots of free topping choices (I go with relish, grilled onions, mayo, ketchup and mustard). Delish. Anything new in Riverdale is welcome sight, but when Yo-Burger finally opened I was fired up. As you might have guessed, its 2 services in one, burgers and frozen yogurt. The design is great, huge windows line the front, allowing plenty of natural light and a real neighborhood feel. Inside is simple seating areas with clean white subway tiles, allowing groups small or large to grab a table or barstool. First, lets get to the burger. Everything is a-la-carte, so I ordered up a cheeseburger, sweet potato fries, and a water. About $10, not bad for NY. Everything is cooked to order, and you have it your way. Plenty of free toppings to choose from, including grilled onions! After a few minutes, my buzzer rang and i was digging in. The burger was surprisingly good, with a fresh flavor, potato bun, and tasty cheese. I thought the size was perfect for me, but you can always order the double burger if you are that hungry. Fries were good too, crispy and fresh. On to the Yo! I grabbed a mix of vanilla and mango, and hit it off with a bunch of the fresh fruit toppings. Plenty of chocolate and other types too, and sauces. You pay by weight, and mine came in at $4.50, not bad considering it was filled to the top. Flavors were good, i loved the vanilla but was not crazy about mango. There are 6 flavors that I'm sure will rotate throughout the year. I can see myself visiting often for a little yo-snack. They also have shakes, which I will have to test out soon. Overall I think this is a GREAT addition to the hood, brought to you by the guys from Sal's. Yo-Wack! Over priced, rude staff, just ok food. Yo-Burger was so Yo-Wack. walked in, the girl said something I couldn't understand. I said excuse me? It looked like she had a mental fart, looked at the other cashier, held he hands to her head and said I'd have to wait for the other cashier. She walked away and walked right back. Yo-Wack!!!!!! Staff looks like they came straight from the penitentiary. Still managed to get my order wrong. The grilled cheese is a burger bun inside out with two pieces of cheese. Still had to ask for my overpriced milk-shake. The veggie patty is a soggy mess. Didn't put the toppings on my Kosher "cheese dog." Didn't know cheese and meat could be considered Kosher. Fries suck too. The only reason people put any good ratings is because the food in Riverdale sucks and anything new is a treat.......until you step into the overpriced, rude place and realized that you should have kept on driving by instead of stopping. Easy fix: use wrappers or boxes, or bring food to tables. Only one option for done-ness, 'medium well'. Burger falling apart, soggy bun, extra-charge mushroom topping barely there.
