I took automatic lessons around Autumn 2024 with the founder of the company. During one lesson, I struggled a lot with reverse bay parking. Instead of helping me, he just got increasingly frustrated and told me to do it again over and over. This was only in my first few hours of driving, which knocked my confidence a lot. Near the end of my lessons I still struggled with it, and he accused me of intentionally getting it wrong.
He also would unnecessarily and unexpectedly use dual controls when he was annoyed with me. One time when I was parking in an empty car park I missed the bay he wanted me to park in. He slammed his dual control brakes and told me I missed the bay. This again damaged my confidence with driving, and made lessons a very uncomfortable experience.
He was quite panicky when I made mistakes. When initially driving on roundabouts, I often didn't change lanes in time which would make him visibly anxious and he would shout at me to move. Whilst I get that I put us both in a dangerous situation, him panicking so much made the situation worse. It also made me more nervous at roundabouts, leading to multiple situations like this.
I gave a 2 star review instead of 1 because I did end up passing first time and I can't speak for the other instructors. However, I feel like my confidence with driving has been negatively impacted by his teaching. I was initially excited to drive, but ended up hating driving and haven't bought a car as I want to avoid driving as much as possible. If you want to learn automatic, I would advise you avoid Yes Driving School as you're highly likely to get this instructor. read more
