Yelp's Flight School was a long time coming and I had a blast. The Atlanta area hasn't had a Yelper Party (gigantic bash open to both Yelp Elites and non-Elite Yelpers) since the Tabernacle event in August 2014 (https://www.yelp.com/biz/yelper-party-yelp-live-at-tabernacle-atlanta). Not only that, but this event was pushed back about a month, from September 10th to October 9th, teasing us even more. What a fun and unique event -- basically, a big bash inside an airplane hanger! I believe this technically took place inside one of Atlanta Air Charter's private hangers at Cobb County International Airport (KRYY) / McCollum Field. I know it can't be easy convincing businesses to haul up to Kennesaw on a Sunday night to give away tons of free food and alcohol, so props to Jonathan and Kellie (the Yelp Atlanta and Yelp OTP Community Managers) for making this event happen. Two of my favorite local Atlanta businesses were in the house: Sweet Hut Bakery & Cafe and Ba Bellies. The Sweet Hut empire had some of their best staff on-hand: co-owners/managers Rachel Ewe, Bree and his wife, social media manager Kavi Vu, and workers from their Buford Highway (Doraville) location. They were giving away sweet treats (e.g. fruit tarts, blueberry cream cheese pastries) and bubble tea (e.g. Thai tea, Sweet Hut milk tea). Ba Bellies chef/co-owner Mike Yang and chef Calvin Hsieh were working the opposite side of the hanger, preparing close to 600 pork shoulder baos (buns) for the masses. The baos were branded with the Ba Bellies logo and Mike finished off each with a blowtorch. Other food I got to try included chicken tikka masala, chickpeas, rice, and naan from Touch of Spice Indian Cuisine and chicken wings from Stars & Strikes Kennesaw. I was admittedly too full to try other bites including the pizza from Mellow Mushroom. I think a lot of us were disappointed to hear that Conch Fritter King suffered a flat tire on their way up to the event and I-CE NY had mechanical issues with their ice cream machine. I didn't drink, but there was beer, wine, and it was neat seeing the liquid nitrogen frozen cocktails. There were also many bottles of various pressed fruit and vegetable juices up for grabs. Workers from Aveda were giving ocomplimentary massages and hair braidings. Every so often, names would get called to tour one of Atlanta Air Charter's private jets. I was one of the lucky folks called. An Atlanta Air Charter pilot walked us into a jet and gave us an interesting rundown on what it's like to fly a chartered aircraft. Basically, once you fly private, you can never go back to flying commercial (as long as money is not an issue, of course). The convenience and time saved is too good give up. Chartered flight cost estimates included $30,000 from Atlanta to the west coast and $2,000 from Atlanta to Augusta. One big reason for the high costs is the cost of jet fuel. A couple other planes were positioned on the tarmac outside the hanger for us to take photos of/with. It was great to see so many faces, old and new. As it goes at large Yelp events, I didn't get to say hi to everyone I wanted to nor talk to everyone long enough. I enjoyed meeting some folks for the first time (e.g. Clifford C) as well as meeting Yelpers I've communicated with online for the first time in person (e.g. Luke T). We left early so we missed out on the break dancing battle, but I heard enough to realize how great of an MC Jonathan is. He reminded me of Verbal from m-flo. I'm so glad I got to check out this amazing event! I didn't realize this event was happening until I saw my October yelp email but put my name of the waitlist just in case. Luckily, I got my party pass the day before and was able to eat some amazing food and hangout with some great people. I got there early enough to park my car right by the check-in/entrance. The check-in process was smooth once they opened the doors for the Elites. I was impressed at the facility as I had never been that close to any planes. There were several great foods and businesses at this event, from sweet hut, ba bellies, indian food, and BBQ to Aveda Institute and more. I got to enjoy delicious fruit tart and drinks from Sweet hut and got myself pampered with some shoulder/hand rubs by the Aveda staff! I liked that this event was open to the public and allowed the elites to bring plus 1s. Hopefully there will be another event like this in the future! Jonathan T. and Kellie M.......best CM's EVER!!! This was one of the most fun Yelp events I've ever been to. I'm going to just list some of the highlights or I'd be here all night. I found it quite easy to find and parking was fine for me. I got here around 5:50pm so I was able to find a spot easily. 1. Thank you to Atlanta Air Charter. Thank you, thank you. The staff who I came in contact with was extremely accommodating and actually seemed happy to be there! They took pictures with us, they took pictures of us, they showed us a wonderful time. So again, thanks for that! 2. My favorite entree for the night was hands down Pinch of Spice Indian Cuisine. My Lord, the Chicken Tikka Masala was delicious!!! It was hot, fresh, and so savory. 3. My favorite dessert was from Sweet Hut Bakery & Cafe. The cheesecake?!?! Divine!!! 4. I don't think I have to tell you that my favorite cocktail was from Grand Marnier. The NEW Raspberry Peach Grand Marnier with Lemonade was a wonderfully made, delicious cocktail. The bartender and I agreed that it best described as delicious. Although we didn't have name tags I met some great folks! Shoutout to Apearl C.and Allison M.!! Also Nikki H.! The photo booth probably saw more than enough of Apearl C., Allison M. and I LOL. The Grand Marnier Girls were awesome! Thanks for the take home Grand Marnier cocktail balls. How many times have I mentioned Grand Marnier? I had such a good time, mingling, eating, and drinking! This was the big blow out bash for the year! There were lots of ups and downs but overall I got to do what I came for: see my beloved yelp family and mingle! Leave it to our Yelp CM's to know how to make a party unique in every way. Ups: Loved seeing the break dancers. Met lots of cool new people. Tried new items. Got to see the airplane hangar in McCollum Airfield. Downs: They ran out of many items before I got there such as the Sweet Hut food, Indian Food, Ba Bellies, Pressed Veggie Juices, Yelp Shwag. Aveda was there giving massages and samples which was neat. I got a full sized Sweet Hut Boba drink (I tried the Thai Tea and loved it). The nitrogen drinks where really neat too. Folks could get a mojito or makers mark drink with liquid nitrogen which basically look like a dry iced drink. Overall it was very fun.The highlight of my night was the break dancers. I love music and dancing so this was a special treat! I was glad I was able to make to the Kennesaw side of town. I am especially happy to see Sweet Hut about to break ground in the suburbs. read more

I was so excited to get into the Yelp's Flight School event. It was pushed back so I was anxiously waiting to attend. It was so cool because the event was filled with yelpers and yelp elite. It was held at the Atlanta Air Charter's private hanger at Cobb County International Airport. You could see the planes as soon as you parked. Sooooo COOL!!! As soon as I walked in I heard music, smelled some amazing food and saw tons of people I knew this was going to be a great party. Special thanks to Jonathan our community manager, for getting me in, this event was so awesome you rock!! XOXO It was so many vendors there providing samples, some of my favorites were, Pinch of Spice Indian Cuisine their chicken, rice, and naan was amazing everything was so fresh and hot. Then my eyes went straight to the Grand Marnier bar not because I love me some good cocktails but I saw the nitrogen and was like whoa. They had some delicious cocktails that included my favorite liquor. They also had a cocktail with Titos Vodka and some wine vendors too but my taste buds were already stolen by Grand Mariner. Another favorite was Uncle C's BBQ OMG I could put that on a piece of ... well lets not say it but if I did it would make it delicious LOL. It was sooo good I went back 3 times. I loved the flavor and the consistency of the sauce. It's perfection! My bestie Berhane H. loves the Sweet Hut so that is where she wanted to go immediately. All of the vendors had tons of samples even though there were a ton of people there everyone was able to try something. There was also no shortage of alcohol which is alwasys great!! wink wink Of course there was a photo booth which looked super fun and there were some great raffle prizes, break dancers, games (we played Jenga until it was over 4 feet tall), and an awesome DJ. I actually found out I won the Mellow mushroom raffle yesterday which was super cool because they had this Holy Shiitake Pie that was beyond delicious. How could I have failed to mention that. I don't even like mushrooms but this is elevated on a whole new level. The fact that I won the gift certificate to go there in the future is awesome because I already know what I am ordering. A big Kudoos to Kellie M. & Jonathan T. :) It was a great take off on a fantastic journey through first class flavors, elevated sips, and flying fun. There was ample free parking for all the people who came to attend the event. The event organizers have also provided the parking map to assist for the people who are new in town. This was my first time to Atlanta Air Charter and I liked it very much looking at the private flights inside and out. As an Elite member I was able to get in by 6 PM and had a bonus hour of more fun. Yelp has provided an $15 off your first two rides for new users who took the Lyft car ride. Yelp has raised some money by collecting cash $10 per person at the entrance for a good cause which was supported by Sunshine On A Ranney Day non-profit organization. There were great raffles and awesome games throughout the event. I liked playing Jenga and Corn hole with my Yelpies. Had a great time. What a fabulous Yelp Event at the Atlanta Air Charter! There were so many different vendors, food, music and prizes! My favorite vendor was Pinch of Spice Indian Cuisine. The Chicken Tikka Masala was soooooo good! I was a little sad they ran out of rice so early. I also loved the pizza at Mellow Mushroom! The dessert at Sweet Hut was good and plentiful. They were always putting out new pastries to try along with the awesome Bubble Teas! Hats off to Stars and Stripes for having 3 types of delicious wings. The wings were hot and fresh! Dry County Brewery brought 2 types of beer for us to try. Tito's also provided mixed vodka cocktails. Yelp's Flight School was a huge party on the grandest of scales. I'm fairly certain I've never been in an airplane hangar, let alone partied in one. (Sorry, but here I must stress that everyone check the appropriate spelling of the word hangar. It's my teacher brain kicking in.) Everything was very organized, from the check in table straight on back to all of the delicious food and drinks. My very favorite snack of the evening was from Ba Bellies. Those pork Baos were just fantastic. My husband's favorite drink of the night was the Chai Boba Tea from Sweet Hut Bakery & Cafe. I always love Mellow Mushroom's pizza, and I was really impressed with the quality of food from Touch of Spice Indian Cuisine. We popped by Angle 3 Films to get our picture taken with props, which is always a fun memento. There were also games scattered throughout the hangar and we donned neon bracelets. We had to leave early, so I am a little bummed that I missed out on the dancing. This must have been a huge affair to plan, job well done to Atlanta's Goose and Mav. read more

This was my first Yelp event--and it was nothing short of amazing! As soon as we were waiting in line to enter, the Red Bull girls were there to offer us a drink. I received the tropical version & it was surprisingly good & refreshing--not to mention a great pick me up before entering the party. Once you entered the hangar, every area was filled with wonderful treats and goodies. There were many food vendors, such as Pinch of Spice, Stars & Strikes, Ba Bellies, Sweet Hut Bakery, Mellow Mushroom, Uncle C's BBQ, & Tony's Tejas Salsa. My personal favorites were Tony's Salsa (I'm from Houston so I always appreciate good Mexican food), Pinch of Spice (WOW--that chicken tikka masala & naan), & Sweet Hut (I'll be dreaming of that Honey Lemonade w/chia seeds and coconut pastry). To accompany all the food, there were also lots of options for drinks! Red Bull, Suja Juice, The Wine Cellars, Tito's, Grand Marnier, Honest Tea, Sweet Hut, & Dry County Brewing. My fiancé really enjoyed the Beers from Dry County, and I enjoying the smoking cocktails featuring Tito's and Grand Marnier. One of my favorite stops had to have been the Aveda booth! I stopped by for a wonderful neck and shoulder massage--so nice! I wanted to go back for some hair braiding--but ran out of time. I loved the live art by Paper Bones ATL, and of course had to go peek at all the planes hanging outside of the hangar. There was lots of entertainment throughout the evening, and everyone could find something to interest them. Thanks again to Atlanta Air Charter--I've never partied in a hangar before! 2 months and 64 reviews of the event later, I'm finally getting to reviewing this massive Yelp Flight School shindig. Even Jonathan's gotten me beat posting the professional photos to the event! That's really sad, so my bad! And before I forget... THANK YOU Kellie for getting me in without an RSVP! I felt like an illegal immigrant (#toosoon?) traversing the event, but also feeling super exclusive since I got in with just a nod and a wink from Kellie, my favorite CM!! Yelp Flight School was such a cool event - I haven't been to anything like it. The hangar was a great open space with a beautiful view of the sky and sunset. There were plenty of vendors to explore, with my favorites being the massage at Aveda Institute, Ba Bellies pork belly baos and Sweet Hut pastries/drinks. And those alcohol vendors? I loved those crazy liquid nitrogen cocktails mixed with Tito's and Grand Marnier. I didn't get to stay the entire event, but I got to squeeze in a few rounds of Cornhole. Before us, some of the vendors seemed to be monopolizing the time on the game. Overall, it was a great event - I wish I hadn't missed the grand finale at the end of the night, but I still enjoyed the food and drinks and the good times! Let me tell something to ju!!! Being a yelper in Metropolitan Atlanta is the shizzle!!!! We get treated like royalty here! I mean seriously, they shut down an airplane hangar to entertain us and our plus one's! There were free drinks galore, pork belly sandwiches, chicken wings, free gift cards to Stars & Strikes, pizza, Tandoori chicken & shrimp, key-lime cupcakes, Thai teas, fruit tarts, Red Bull energy drinks, BBQ (pork & chicken), a DJ pumpin' music and break dancers gettin' jiggy! I even got a shoulder massage and some cool yelp pics in the photobooth (coming soon). All I have to say is a quote from Megan Trainor - "If I were you, I'd wanna be me too!" Drink sweet hut bubble tea in a Airplane hanger? Checked that off my list, Yaaaay!!! I arrived at the Elite parking area about 30 minutes before 7pm, when all yelpers, elite or not, could enter, and by reading a few of the other reviews apparently I missed not only some of the cool yelp swag that i'd never had (The yelp flask was pretty nice! I missed it though), but entire restaurant displays had come and gone (I didn't even know I-CE NY was there!). While I missed a few things, I also tried a few places as well such as: Sweet hut - front and center when you walked into the event BA Bellies - serving up Baos Stars and Stripes (they served wings) unclecbbq (Shredded bbq pork and cubed chicken) Pinch of spice Indian (chicken Tikki Marsala....my favorite bites of the night) On top of the food, the photo booth next to the large airplane was a popular spot to be seen. Between that, games, break dancing and raffles, it was an event that you had to have fun at. I wont include any photos because i've already found myself in other people's reviews/photos The biggest star of the night were all of the yelpers of course, and really it's become one of the reasons why I go to events because in addition to seeing all of the friends I may not have seen in a while, it's also very cool to meet new yelpers! This event, unlike other events, was not free, as you were only able to get in with a $10 donation, although if you picked one of everything from sweet hut, you would have paid about $10 there alone, let alone all the other snacks we got, so I consider that even. I'm always a fan of creative yelp events, and Kelly and Jonathan hit another home run tonight. I do wish there were more vendors, less standing around and more swag, but I walked away happy! Yes, we are still talking about Yelp's Flight School three weeks later...such a creative idea for an event! Jonathan and Kellie invited Yelpers to a private airplane hangar north of Atlanta for the biggest bash of 2016. Over 600 people sought party passes for the event and once you factor in their +1s there were more than one thousand people seeking entry. I felt grateful that my guy and I made it onto the guest list. So many vendors were inside that Yelpers almost needed a theme park map to navigate it all. There was something to see, taste or experience everywhere we looked. Definitely a lot going on but in the best possible way. Private jets were strategically parked to create an Instagram-worthy backdrop. An artist from Paper Bones ATL created a painting onsite. DJ Alpha Trion set a party vibe on the ones and twos before Rockwell Dance Academy entertained the crowd with their high-energy breakdancing. Ba Bellies, Mellow Mushrooms, Honest Tea, Tito's Vodka and others stimulated our palates. All the bites and sips I tried were tasty but the standouts for me were the Thai tea from Sweet Hut and the Chicken Tikka Masala from Pinch of Spice Indian Cuisine. Thanks to all the vendors for participating to make the event a success. I loved seeing Jonathan and Kellie dressed in Top Gun onesies (still not sure who was Goose and who was Maverick) to rep the Yelp Flight School theme to the fullest. Can we just give a round of applause to Jonathan for throwing such an awesome event! He really outdid it this time! Sooooo much food soooo much to do! I honestly didn't get around to everything and I hate that. I actually wasn't even going to this event but Adrian V. Insisted on me coming and being her plus 1 and I'm super glad I did. I was stuffed like a little piggy by the end of the night and quite tipsy (sneaky smile). Ok first off... The food... a few of the vendors I've never had before but after last night I will be becoming a regular at. The mellow mushroom had this mushroom explosion situation type pizza with garlic. Omgggggg so good! They had a vendor with Indian cuisine & were making fresh naan in a tandoor (I was so excited when I saw that)! It was so fresh and amazing. I also had some chicken w/ BBQ sauce from uncle C's which was really good. I like mine a little spicy so I had the hot sauce in mine which was perfect. The wings from stars and strikes was super good but I already knew that cuz I got there quite often because I Hv a kid. Sweet hut bakery just got a new customer out of me with the Thai iced tea it was the closest thing to heaven on earth ! In fact I'm going to sweet hut bakery today to get me a swig of some of that tea (so much for those lbs I just lost). Anyhoo I can't say enough awesome things about this event. GO JONATHAN!!!!!!!! "Ladies and gentlemen, this is your stewardess speaking... We regret any inconvenience the sudden cabin movement might have caused, this is due to periodic air pockets we encountered, there's no reason to become alarmed, and we hope you enjoy the rest of your flight... By the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane?" -- Airplane! (1980) Huge event and lots of people - tons of news faces I've never seen before. If ever we needed name tags - this was the event for them. The event was in an airplane hanger (cool) and so I wore tennis shoes to save my back. I got there before 6, but was not checked in until 6:15 - but by then we were being let in to the hanger - there was a line to be checked in and a line to be let into the hanger. We did notice ICE-NY leaving as we were in line - sad. When you first walked in, you basically stepped right into the Sweet Hut line (they are opening a Marietta location soon). They had many drinks and sweets. I grabbed something and then made my way to the Ba Bellies table. Next, we went by Stars and Strikes for wings and found a high-top to eat our munchies and mingle. There were some other food and drink vendors around, but we paced ourselves. Non-Elites were let in at 7, but I noticed most of the food vendors were out of food by 7:30. Pinch of Spice, Mellow Mushroom and Sweet Hut we able to restock (looked like they were sending people out to get more food). There was some music and entertainment and cocktails flowing - unfortunately for me, it was entirely too far a drive for me to imbibe. But luckily there was plenty of bottled water and Sweet Hut tea to stay hydrated. The lack of napkins was a bit of a challenge, luckily Mellow Mushroom brought some so we snagged from their table. And I do wish there were raffle tickets given on the way in to the event for the giveaways so it seemed more fair of a drawing for the prizes. Overall it was a fun event and I was happy to get the chance to hang out with Yelp friends and catch up. I would have loved to be able to get my photo with the jets - but you couldn't really get close to them. read more

So what are you doing on Sunday? I'm just going to hang out in a airplane hanger, eat some food, drink some beer, see some friends, you know just regular Sunday stuff. I think NOT! Who else had plans like this for Sunday other than my fellow yelpers?!? Thank you Jonathan T and Kellie M. for a creative and fun event!! It was awesome seeing some new and old yelpers, experiencing new and old vendors, getting a b-boy show.... I had to catch myself at times as it brought me back to my growing up days when the guys in school would breakdance in the cafeteria at lunch..... It was really cool to see the planes although I did hope for an opportunity to sit in one but the folks at Atlanta Air Charter were so nice and open I am sure I can call them up and get whatever help I need. As always the photo booth with Angle 3 Films was tons of funs and I got a lot of pics to remember the night and took some funny videos! They are on Facebook is you would like to see them! The food was yummy and the Indian restaurant Pinch of Spice was a hit! And of course Ba Bellies was there with blow torch in hand. I'm starting to think I need to request table service with a blow torch whenever I order pork.. I may get kicked out of some places...but not Ba Bellies!!! I was happy to see a new brewery, Dry County Brewing that just opened a month ago in Kennesaw. They had a Pale Ale and Oatmeal Stout and they both were pretty good! I'll try to make this a quick one. Was it worth the drive up OTP and a small donation? I definitely think so! Thanks to the food and drink vendors, such as Ba Bellies, Sweet Hut and more for serving all the foodies in attendance. Ba Bellies pork bao's were flying off as chef Mike Yang brought out the blow torch and smiles to heat and serve the remaining baos until they ran out. Sweet Hut had even called in for another delivery of pastries and drinks as they tried to catered to the increasing line at their stations. Does anyone else wanna fly away after tonite?! Kudos to the organizers, Jonathan T. & Kellie M. - you guys deserve props for planning and executing an event of that magnitude with so many moving parts! Congratulations Jonathan, you can officially plan a wedding now! ;) This reminded me of an employee appreciation and health fair event I attended for Delta airlines a few years ago. It looked so cool but I was there as a vendor & didn't get to have all the fun But tonight made up for it!! There's nothing like a massive hanger to contain our silliness, debauchery and dance moves! And everything was pretty seamless, from parking to check-in. The only additional thing I would've liked at check-in would've been name tags for all of us. We were still able to introduce ourselves, just don't ask us to remember your name without a name tag prompting us! They had the no-fail trifecta to please party-goers: adult beverages (beer, wine, cocktails), food (Mellow Mushroom pizza, Stars n Strikes wings, Ba Bellies, Sweet Hut, etc...) AND music!! The DJ did a great job spinning a wide variety of music to reflect the diverse Yelp crowd. And, how cool that we were treated to a breakdance dance-off? So you think you can dance has nothin' on our Yelp event!! I liked the spacious layout and some of the fun games peppered throughout the hanger. The tall bistro tables were a very welcome sight for those awkwardly carrying a drink (or 2) and a plate of food. And those tables allowed us to meet new, fellow Yelpers! Met some cool peeps tonight (& ran into some old friends too!). For future reference, it would've been nice to have 'wet-naps' on the tables, so we can clean our hands after devouring sticky, messy chicken wings. And if possible, a few chairs would be nice - I have an injury & can't stand for extended periods so I had to draw my night to a close sooner than I would've liked. No worries though. I fully enjoyed the vendors, the hassle-free set-up, and of course all the awesome family of Yelpers! The next time I need to fly private and take my Leer Jet, I know the private air business to call! Even though I live right by PDK, I might be willing to go out to Kennesaw instead. All i can say is "AMAZING JOB JONATHAN & KELLY" For my first Elite event in Atlanta, this was a truly remarkable experience. Since I arrived early, i was able to acquaint myself with some of the security guards and front desk staff...as well as some vendors (even was able to assist where it was needed). Everything was nicely organized from the initial table setup (checking passes, collecting donations to checking IDs) to walking into the airplane hanger. It was completely wide open with plenty of space for everyone to walk around in. From the wine tasting in the beginning (spectacular red blend) to - Sweet Hut (had a great assortment of golden chinese cupcakes, followed by some delectable deserts and bubble teas as well as my favorite of the honey tea with chia seeds). - Next was an artist painting some remarkable art work... most of the time i was there she was working on a piece (see one of the pics)...and it was remarkable! fine tuned to detail... - a photo op booth in front of the big private plane (the plane holds approximately 10-12 people comfortably, and costs around $2500/hour. digging in deeper, you can charter the plane to the bahamas for around $20k roundtrip! There was an indian restaurant serving some naan, masala and tiki...the vegan masala was very tasty, but unfortunately the other items that they were serving, i was unable to eat (dairy) I am thankful that the chefs knew the ingredients and shared it before i proceeded to eat it. - The Dry county brewing was tucked away in the corner. They were serving 2 beers (an oatmeal stout called Old 41 and a extra pale ale called noonDay (wasn't a fan of either, but looked like a lot of people were enjoying them.) they mentioned that they are serving their brews locally in Taco Mac as well as some other well known establishments. - I was disappointed at Uncle C's BBQ, as i was not able to sample any of his meats. But on the positive side of that...it must have been spectacular, because all of his food was gone in a blink of an eye.. (and he had a huge line to get the food). (when i'm in the area, i'm definitely going to go back...he mentioned that he smokes his pork for 16 hours, and has some fall off the bone wet ribs that are to "DIE FOR" Next was the Tejas Salsa, which offered 3 different salsa flavors - mild, medium and hot. I was surprised that the 'hot' was not that hot. I guess for some it could be hot, but for me, it was a disappointment...especially if they label themselves the "Worlds best salsa". Stars and strikes was up next. i was thoroughly impressed with their set up and happy to know that they do corporate events as well. my company was looking for something like this, and i think i will pass the information to them as well. The sales manager, Larry was very nice, gave me a nice package to review (for team building) as well as some free passes to try it out. In addition to the free games., they were serving some awesome chicken wings (hot wings, garlic parm and thai chili). the chili thai was more like a 'sweet and sour' taste...however the hot wings were good. (not that hot though, but still pretty good My favorite location out of the entire place was BaBellies (www.babellies.com). they were serving this mini pork shoulder sandwich on a sweet bun that is branded with their signature brand. it was such a great taste and the pork shoulder was cooked to perfection. the presentation was also amazing, as they made them, plated them and then to heat them up, they used a mini blowtorch! Of course, there were some areas for liquor as well. There was a really cool area in the far back of the facility that served Titos Vodka with limeanade, then sprayed with liquid nitrogen. Though the serving was small, the presentation was amazing! (have some videos posted of it). Overall, this was an amazing experience and was extremely well executed by Jonathan, Kelli and the entire Yelp staff. I blast off was had at Air Charter School. This was one of the biggest Yelp Events that I can recall in years. There were tons of food and drink vendors, goodie bags, Yelp Swag, break dancing, and a chance to take pictures and view private jets. I actually was one of the winners who got a chance to go inside a private jet for a good info session behind them. Awesome. That was a great win! I saw so many people I had not seen in a long, long time. With people's schedules and you get this event, I get this event, what a good place to bring everyone together; OTP and ITP. This was my first Yelp event and boy did I have a good time. I seriously don't even know where to begin with this review. Let's start with the food. My favorite place was the Indian Restaurant Pinch of Spice. From the tandoori shrimp, naan, and chicken tiki masala it was love at first sight. My favorite drink at the event was not the alcohol but the Honey Jasmine Green Tea from Sweet Hut Bakery. I truly enjoyed meeting other Yelpers all over Atlanta (ITP and OTP) and also being able to meet the Yelp Coordinators. The massages from the Aveda Institute was amazing in addition to the tea they had as well. The venue was nice and I loved the music the DJ played. Overall just an amazing event and I can't wait to experience more events like this. Thank you so much for the invite! read more

I live beyond OTP, so I am not able to make it to many Yelp events. It feels like fewer are available where I am allowed to being a plus one, so that narrows down my opportunities even further as I've got to have my man with me! I digress...not much to say that hasn't already been said. Appreciated the CMs and all of their hard work. They do a lot for us and it shows. One negative was the bathroom situation. I can appreciate situations that necessitate a port o potty, but for the love give people a heads up to being hand sanitizer or provide a hand washing station. I cannot tell you how many people I saw come out and, realizing there was nowhere to wash, stuck their hands in the pools full of drinks to "wash" their hands. That were right in front of the bathrooms. Ew. For reals. And then I'm supposed to grab a bottle of juice that has been sitting in pee hand water? Ew. Some of the food options were a bit lacking (ramekin of BBQ pork, etc.), but others were great. Sweet Hut was my favorite. They didn't hold back and the tea was amazing. My first Yelp event & I truly enjoyed myself. Well organized from the parking to the check-in. Pinch of Spice was amazing. My favorite thing there. The shrimp were delicious! My boyfriend said the wings from Stars and Strikes were really good too. & Tito's vodka was really good. Nice touch with the nitrogen on too. I really enjoyed myself. So, I can cross "Party in a hangar" off my bucket list. Thanks Yelp! This was such a FLY event. Everything from parking and check-in to the layout of the festivities was perfect. We were able to park, show our Party Passes, and get to the fun in no time. And fun we definitely had. We sipped Grand Marnier (featuring their new raspberry peach flavor) & Titos cocktails with liquid nitrogen that made them look very cool. And we nibbled on yummy bites from Mellow Mushroom, Ba Bellies, Stars & Strikes...but by that point I was feeling a bit full and missed the other goodies on the other side of the hangar. But I didn't miss out on the free massages from Aveda. The oil they used smells ah-mazing. I keep sniffing my shoulder and will definitely be making my way to the nearest location for my own bottle of goodness. Oh, and I need to give a shout out to Atlanta Air Charter! Their staff was so polite and helpful. They offered a warm welcome, and happily answered all of my questions while I was there. I'm trying to scrape up my coins so that I can use their services one day. I should be ready by the time I turn 50. Between the awesome event and the not-too-cold/not-too-hot weather, this event lands on the top of my fave Elite event list. read more

Wheeee! Loved this event. As an elite coming from Asheville to Atlanta, I am learning to think big.... big like airplanes. So fun! Loved the mix and mingle. Felt special that elites got to come early, but I liked meeting new people too. This event (compared to Seasons 52) seemed better set up to meet new people thanks to the standing tables and wandering activities. Food: yum on the noms! Mellow was nice, the BBQ jammin, those sammies so good and the desserts delish! All the vendors were kind and informative. Will try out those places for real. Other/entertainment: loved the photo booth. So fun! Memorable for sure. The dancing wasn't my favorite entertainment, but it was just cause I couldn't see. Alcohol: oh m gee. Best yelp cocktails to date ?and I've had a lot). Simple. Sweet. Quality. The bartenders were friendly and talented. I was so impressed at how professional they were when the 61 year old dancer tried to steal bottles (rude. Who does that?! *also kind of hilarious). The wine station was also quite lovely. All these workers engaged and were happy to be there. Met some fun new friends and had some great laughs. I'd do this event over & over again! Heyoooo! read more

Big shout out to Jonathan T. For doing it again! This hanger party was a WIN!! I arrive at 6pm promptly for the early admission for Yelp Elite. I think it took no more than 10 minutes total to get checked in. Since the weather was nice, I had no complaints. Upon entry my plus one and I were immediately greeted by a table of wine and desserts!! What a fantastic way to be greeted! Surprisingly I opted to skip the dessert and head for the other small bite options. There were various establishments from Mellow Mushroom to Tony Texas Saucy Bama Balls. Regarding Texas Saucy Bama Balls- I can't wait to see them sold locally in Whole Foods starting in November. They have the Motto of "The Worlds Best Salsa", honestly- it WAS memorable! Although I enjoyed every venue present, the highlights for me were Pinch of Spice and Aveda Institute. Regarding Pinch of Spice- I have patronized a number of Indian restaurants, and hands down the flavor of their food surpasses any other establishment I have visited. From the Nann to the masala chicken- the taste was on point! I will be making the hike to Kenessaw when I have that urge for Indian food. Aveeda provided me with a wonderful shoulder massage. The lasting impression was with the blue oil Utilized for the massage. The oil was like a magic potent. I will be ordering a bottle! In addition to having a number of restaurants and drink options, there were various drawings, and live entertainment. As always it was great being around members of the Yelp community. From the moment we arrived at the McCollum Airport, I could tell that this event was going to be something special because the line to get in was at least 20 people deep! We joined the line and had the lovely Wynter check us in and a security officer checked our I.D.s to be sure we were over 21. Each Yelper and guest were also required to pay a mandatory $10 for a charity called "Sunshine on a Ranney Day". Later on during the party, the founders of the charity explained that they build and renovate houses for children with disabilities so I was thrilled that we could all donate to such a worthy cause! When we walked into the airplane hangar I was blown away by the sheer size of it and the sheer amount of Yelpers that had all gathered to thrown down! It was by far the largest event I'd ever attended. There were numerous food and drink vendors all set up around an actual jet in the middle of the room. So dope! Some of my favorite vendors were: SWEET HUT who I think had the most food and beverages out of everyone! When all the other vendors were running out they were still putting out delicious savory and sweet buns and of course their signature drinks. RAISING THE BAR: These guys had an incredible spread featuring a variety of creative cocktails. I'm not even a huge cocktail fan but their "Limenade" blew my wife and I away! Added bonus: the liquid nitrogen they put in the drinks which, come on, is just cool! UNCLE C's BBQ: There's something to be said for "simple but GOOD." Uncle C's didn't have any bells and whistles but they had some damn good BBQ sauce!! Seriously, can I order it by the truck load?? I tried some over their shredded pork and I was in love! Delicious! DRY COUNTY BREWERY: I loved that their ambassador was so knowledgeable about the beer. I talked to him a while about what they offer and their quality standards and about how the beer is made. I got to smell the hops and see the two different kinds of barley they use-one light, one dark. I tried their dark beer (don't remember the name) that's made from that chocolatey looking barley and it was creamy, delicious and not too bitter. I will definitely be visiting DRY County in the near future. WINE CELLARS: I've been a fan of this adorable wine shop since we had our YELP event there a while back and they didn't disappoint this time either. That "Rib Shack" wine is sooooo good and you gotta love Renee the owner who always has a smiling face and knows so much about wine. Good vendors aside, it wouldn't be a proper Yelp event without a photo booth which is always good fun! And there were some great raffle prizes, break dancers, games, an awesome DJ and did I mention the JETS??!!! This was an amazing event and I had so much fun I didn't want to leave! Such an awesome event! Kudos to the Yelp team Jonathan & Katie! This was my first event and I can't wait to go to more! So what made this event great? Food + people! Can you imagine going to an event where there are a ton of food vendors with yummy food ranging from Indian, Asian, BBQ, pizza, wings, and even drinks, where you can have samples of food, without having to pay? I know sounds like a dream! That's pretty much sums up how awesome this event was! What made the event even sweeter was the fact that you were surrounded by a ton of cool people who appreciated food just as much as you! I love being at places with dope experiences that involve food and a shared interest of food! I enjoyed eating all of the food, and absolutely loved the Indian food! A very cool and unique yelp event. It was nice to be able to bring a +1, although this fact and the size of the event made it more difficult to meet other yelpers since people stuck with who they knew. Nonetheless my husband was very excited to see what all the hype was about with yelp events! The vendors were generous and I noticed that many had more brought in when they ran out, which was nice of them. I also appreciated that there were non-alcoholic drink options available. My favorite was Sweet Hut, who brought in trays of buns after running out of their initial batch. Silly me, wanted to wait until after I had the other food before having dessert, and by then they had long run out of their cheesecakes...but plenty of bubble tea flowed throughout the night. I also enjoyed trying Ba Bellies, which I've heard about many times but haven't gotten the chance to check out until now, I became a fan and will definitely be checking them out in the future. The event was well organized from beginning to end, with plenty of information provided about parking, directions, and vendors beforehand, and smooth check in process. I'm late to the review but I still have to give tons of credit and props to all who participated or had a hand in putting this event together, particularly Jonathan and Kellie, our CMs. They really went over and beyond to make everyone feel welcome, happy, and well-fed. I know that getting a hanger to open its doors to the public is a HUGE issue and an ordeal to do since there are permits to do everything! The food stands were surrounding the perimeter of the hangar so everyone can make a loop to discover all the yummy dishes. Sweet Hut in particular were amazing in both service and food. They kept putting out new delicious pastries and the boba milk tea / thai teas were both so good. Ba Bellies put out some delicious bao for us to try and were branded with the logo on the bun. One of my favorite things about these events are the people we meet and also the people we get to see again. Yelpers are a great community that really is helpful, fun and inviting to bring people together and I'm really happy to have attended this event! read more

I had the absolute most fabulous time at Yelp's Flight School. Great Elite event. I met lots of new people and had fun tasting the different wines and ales in the Atlanta Air Charter hangar. After checking in, I was immediately greeted by the charming couple of Wine Cellars. I tasted two different types of wine Chardonnay and Rose both of which were crisp and sweet. I was then whisked away and invited to step in and take a look-see at the inside of a jet! Ba Bellies graced all of us with their pork bao's which were hard to come by...I blame the blow torch for attracting so much attention lol. The Sweet Hut Bakery & Cafe making the scene sweet with their arrangement of pastries and teas. Raising the Bar, stands true to their name with the Limenade made with liquid nitrogen! It was the coolest drink I've ever had! Dry County Brewery had many different types of beer and was very friendly and knowledgeable. Thanks to our community managers Kelly and Jonathan and all of the vendors for making this such an incredible evening. read more

Talk about going First Class! This was a fantastic Yelp event! An airplane hanger was the perfect place for hundreds of Yelpers to gather on such a perfect night. No one can complain about airplane food after this event, the vendors did their best to satisfy the noshing of the Yelping hoard, and did so with the best of attitudes. I didn't eat much but spent a good amount of time at the Dry County Brewing Company tent. The owner Trey was pouring all night and the beers he brought were great, in particular the stout was DELICIOUS. After a few I was feeling ready to take on the friendly skies when the Fabulous Kellie called my name to have a chance to go inside the jet that was in the hanger with us. It was great hanging out and taking pictures in the jet, and I have to admit that now my life will not be complete until I charter one of these bad boys for myself and some friends. It really was a great event in a cool location. Kudos to all involved, and major thanks and appreciation to Kellie and Jonathan. Great event! First time in a while that I got to chat and hang out with a variety of Yelps. I meet several new friends! I LOVED that Elites were able to enter early. I was nice to mingle and try everything before the crowds hit. Check-in was quick and easy once the doors open. I liked that I was able to get something off the "Yelp swag table" by showing my checkin on the app. Location - Fabulous. I am not even into planes and was amazed at the plans onsite and inside the building! Food - I loved the food I tasted... I got caught up in being social and missed a lot of food option. My favorite was the wings from Stars & Stripes. Drinks - I did not miss tasting any of the drinks. I really enjoyed the wine from the Wine Shop & Cafe. Their staff was really friendly and hands on. The cocktail table... I'm sure there was a real name... was my favorite place. I totally enjoyed trying all the drinks and got some really cool Grand Marnier glasses from them. Entertainment - The DJ was great. I danced walking into the door! I really enjoyed the dancers and break dancing battle. Unique and fun! The photo booth saw a lot of me, Allison M., and LaShonda H. I promise we did not bride them to snap all those pictures of us! I really loved their set up and team. Plus being able to see our photos on Facebook in 10 minutes was pretty darn awesome! This was my first Yelp event so I echo the sentiment of my fellow Yelpers that name tags would've been awesome. I'm sure I knew some of the folks but needed some help with names. Parking was ample and well directed. Food vendors were friendly and well-stocked. As an Elite we were let in at 6 so there was plenty of FREE food and alcoholic beverages. We even got some Yelp swag, SCORE!! The planes were guarded so we weren't able to do much except take pics but it was still cool to have a party n a hangar surrounded by planes. A great time was had by all, I look forward to the next event. read more

Wonderfully organized event! Huge thank you to our community managers, who moved mountains (namely government regulatory agencies) to make this happen! Highlights for me: Ba Bellies pork buns- Delish. No surprise coming from Chef Mike on this one. I got to chat with him for a couple of seconds, and found out that they will be starting Nerdy trivia in the next few weeks (I believe they're using the trivia guy from Battle & Brew). I can't wait! Dry county brewing's dark stout- Notes of chocolate and espresso, with none of that "soy sauce" after taste. Absolutely one of the best beers of its kind that I've had. We will definitely be getting a keg of this for our next party. Sweet Hut's fruit tarts and cheesecake tarts- I have to admit, I am not usually a fan of Sweet Hut's goods, usually they are far too sweet for me... but these were delectable, and I will now go in and grab tarts for client meeting nibbles! This event has completely changed my mind on SH! Atlanta Flight School- My husband has been looking into flight lessons for some time now. We pulled aside one of the instructors, who took us over to his own private aircraft and explained how they have a very structured flight school, and what the advantages are. Seeing as my husband works across the street, and they are able to do flying lessons on a pretty laid back schedule, I think we may definitely enroll the hubby. AVEDA is my favorite personal care brand, so it was cool to see them representing, and the Grand Marnier drinks chilled with nitrogen was a fun (and yummy) touch. All in all, this was a super well organized event, and layout allowed for as little congestion as possible (which is a lot harder than you might think). Only constructive feedback would be more tables and some wet naps for the finger foods next time! Really great job guys! read more
