The crowd was a mixture of 25+ year olds all enjoying a dance to the likes of The Supremes and James Brown. Unusually for Blackpool the bar has a balcony area which offers a nice view out across the sea. A welcome break away from the dance fodder most of the town is providing.

Music is from the 70s and the 70s alone, which last time I visited did leave the DJ making sarcastic remarks like 'no we can't play backstreet boys' and telling people who the artists were throughout the night. When it is busy it is a really top night out, but can often feel a bit lacking when it is quiet! Maybe the building is just to big for Flares to do it justice? I chose the "Deluxe Burger" with two (!) 6 oz beef patties, and it's quite a bargain. While the patties are certainly convenience products, they were well grilled - still juicy. The fries that came with it were crispy - not the flabby, soggy kind you usually get with fish & chips. The seating areas inside aren't exactly comfy, but you're not supposed to linger here. There's also a small seating area outside. For a quick meal and drink you can do a lot worse in Blackpool than at The Rose & Crown.

OMG there are not many places in Blackpool with toilets so bad .. Just the smell on entering was enough to put me off my gin and tonic .. So if you want to go to the flying handbag make sure you have been to the toilets first !
