I've been here a couple of times before and didn't like it and last night was no exception. I can't understand the popularity of this place. First the good. There was a wait for indoor seating so we opted for outdoor which was very nice especially since most of the sidewalk construction in The Glen is close to completion. There was plenty of space around the tables. With all the people waiting for a table they easily could have squeezed in a few more tables but then maybe they couldn't staff them all which leads me into the service. It was excellent. Our server was very good and was very knowledgeable of the food menu. One of the questions we had was the 'club' sandwich actually a club sandwich with three pieces of bread? We didn't get into the beer selection since I simply can't keep up with all the selections so I pretty much stick with the domestics. I do have a couple of favorites though. I had the Nashville hot chicken sandwich with the sauteed veggies which were excellent and I would go back just for the veggies. I also like that there are several 'side' choices, most at no extra charge so your not stuck with fries. The not so good. The hot chicken sandwich simply has to be the worst value on the menu at $13! Wow! You will get a bigger chicken breast at Chick Fil-A for half the $$$. For $17 you get the dinner with a couple more sides but the same skimpy chicken breast. I also had a half yard of beer served in an outrageous glass that had to be two feet tall...pretty cool, but so was the beer. It was warm. No I didn't send it back. The other sandwich was the Turkey & Bacon Melt with jalapeno spread which the server told us that some people find it can be quite spicy. That was appreciated, but it was hardly noticeable. Everything on the food menu seems to be 3 to 5 dollars too much and the portions are very small. One of the few exceptions to this is the cheeseburger which at around eleven bucks is in line with most of the restaurants these days. Two people, three beers, one cocktail at twelve bucks, two sandwiches and a twenty percent tip came out to seventy five bucks! I love the food at Yard House but their extensive beer selection is really something else. That's what sets them apart from most other bars and restaurants. I really liked being able to try a lot of different beers on tap. As far as the food, my favorite so far is calamari. Delicious. I found the service to be really good as well. read more

What an awesome place! Good food, good service, good atmosphere. It's located in a beautiful mixed use development in Glenview and the service was fantastic. My friend is vegetarian and they have a whole veggie section with a wide variety of selections. The truffle fries are a must and the lamb and pork burgers were amazing! We got the veggie Mac n cheese which tasted good but I'm sure the featured original with meat tasted way better. The poke nachos and Korean bbq beef were to die for! The onion ring tower was amazing but honestly fills you up a bit too much before the meal comes so I would recommend something else. What surprised me the most is that their menu was very similar to Cheesecake Factory. Wide variety of cuisines, desserts, and options. Take your time with the menu it is very big. I would recommend this place to anyone. It was a nice day so we decided to sit outside. The server was very sweet and accommodating.. she brought a high chair out right away for my young daughter along with crayons and paper to color on. The variety on the menu is awesome. From fried chicken sandwiches to a poke bowls!!! (That's what i had) I must say it was fantastic. The ahi tuna was very fresh. The "kids" Mac and cheese was huge. LOL I definitely ate some. A little bit pricey but 100% worth every penny. My daughter is only 14 months old so of course she made a mess on the ground with her food and I was feeling embarrassed but the waitress was so kind and told us to not worry about it. Inside is fairly large and they offer a wide selection of beers. I will definitely return here for a night out for some drinks!!! read more

I really like the location of this place! There are many little shops around and I enjoyed walking around after we ate. Service was fast and prompt and the food was delicious as always. We have tried the traditional buffalo wings and the lobster and crab dip and they are both really good! The lamb burger is really good too. The entree I like the most is the BBQ salad. Definitely one of Glenview's nicest places to hang around in. They have plenty of food options and many beers on tap. It was a pleasant surprised coming here for a co-worker's final goodbye. We took advantage of the happy hour specials which made it such a nice bargain considering I find the place a bit pricey but manageable. There wasn't a good deal on drinks but the half priced apps were pretty good. The Moo Shu Egg Rolls with the apple ginger plum sauce rocks! Besides having lots of beer on tap, I was happy to see a few options for cider even though they can use more. The mixed drinks were good as well. Yard house has always been one of my favorite restaurants ever. Thank you so much for putting in the Gardein menu. The best most awesome tasting thing on the entire menu is the buffalo Gardein "chicken" wings. (and I used to come here years before I was vegan) You can get them in several different flavors, and they are all mouth watering. I even got my carnivorous boyfriend to only order from the Gardein menu, and go to Yard House for date night just for these wings. They are that good! Obsessed! The absolute nicest looking restaurant in the Glen, and I have seen inside all of them except for maybe one. Went in to grab a quick bite before a movie. We were a bit shocked at the lunch prices, but after the food arrived we could see why. The portions were VERY large, but excellently presented and really good! BF had the french onion soup and caesar salad. Both got the thumbs-up. I had the clam chowder - really good too and loaded with big chunks of clam & potato. I also ordered the chilled edamame. Fantastic! They came with just a touch of kosher salt and I couldnt stop eating them, they were that good. mmmm. I never thought I would be writing a one star review for a place that has so many beers on tap. This alone should be enough to rocket it into the five star sphere, however - it does not. Now note, this was not my first rodeo in the Yard House, I have come here before. With a good food selection, and an offering of a MNF happy hour, we thought we had struck gold. We came in and were promptly seated, right next to the door. Our server came over, and went on to explain their new fish selection and then left to get us water. Upon his return, we ordered our drinks (I ordered a Dirty Martini, extra dirty) - when it came it actually was not extra dirty, it actually seemed extra watery, and to top it off there were no olives - none. Really? Onto food. My wings were delivered nice and hot, along with our sliders and salad. We promptly asked for a couple extra plates so we can share some food (And i can put my wing bones somewhere) - our waiter was less than enthusiastic about performing this strenuous task, but it was done. Now lets break down the dishes. Our salad; We specifically asked for dressing on the side for the salad - they slathered it on. My wings; No blue cheese or ranch? What is this? Hooters?! The sliders; no ketchup or mustard at our table. Now we have to wait, about 5 minutes or so I spent looking around for the waiter - while our food gets colder and colder. Finally, the hostess comes up and asks if we need our server - we said yes, and she ran off to get him. As she approached him, I saw him make a less then thrilled, somewhat annoyed face as his dragged his feet back over to our table. We ask for ketchup, mustard and a side of blue cheese - he again looks annoyed and walks. I mean, there are fries with the sliders too - ketchup is a pretty common accoutrement to fries and burger. Currently my favorite waiter service place to eat in The Glen for a few reasons: - Booths galore. I really like to sit in on padded things. A comfortable tuckus makes for a happy Yanyao. - The music is fun! Classic rock gems that J adores and some that are familiar because they've been on Guitar Hero/Rock Band. Hee! - I imagine if I was a beer drinker, then I look at all the beer taps. They would make my eyes wide. Plus they have lambics. So tasty. - Pretty diverse menu. Good for when I feel indecisive. Anyhow, we came for a late midweek lunch. The place was pretty empty and quiet, perfect for listening to the Doobie Brothers and what not. More importantly, the food was pretty tasty. I'm pretty used to places butchering any time of ethnic sauce preparation (example: the spicy Thai at Leona's tastes like teriyaki... gross). The jerk wings taste mildly jerky! Surprise surprise, they're all drums too. Bonus points! I had tomato bisque (organic, tasty) and the chicken garlic noodles. Garlic and noodles: another 2 of my favorite food groups. This was lovely. Noodles, spinach, asparagus, ground chicken, shiitake mushrooms, edamame, smoked tofu, garlic. Very flavorful and I appreciated all the veggies. Also stole some of J's fries that accompanied his Cubano. Skinny, crisp, well-seasoned, DELICIOUS! So delicious that I declined ketchup (who wants that HFCS anyway?) A good trendy place to hang out. Yard House offers amazing selections on beer. This restaurant has served as meet up place with my fellow high school friends whenever I make it back to Norhtbrook. I have been here for both dinner and lunch, and they seem to always be busy. Their food here is decent. To be honest, I don't remember much of what I had and how good it was but I do remember that they had good beer. lol. Yard House earned an aggressive three stars on my visit. But Beth R., you say, how can a place be aggressively O.K.? Exactly. The menu is, as others have mentioned, huge. Por ejemplo, the pre-meal nibblies list has subsections: snacks and appetizers. Our group of six got two apps and a snack, and the appetizers were generous (I think there were 16 inches of onion rings) but the chips and guacamole was disproportionate -- too much guac, not enough chips. There are also burgers, sandwiches, salads, tacos, seafood, house specialties - the list goes on. There's a whole section for fake protein, called Gardein (TM). I chose the Gardein burger, believing it would be a homemade burger made from the ingredients listed (soy, wheat and pea proteins plus veggies and grains). If it was homemade and/or made from those ingredients, they fooled me. It was closest to a Boca Burger, and not at all veggie, crumbly, substantial or tasty. I also requested a wheat bun and got white, which brings me to my next point. The service is certainly warm enough, but 1) they do the thing where they don't write down your order, which always gives me gray hair, and 2) things...take...forever. The place is busy, and all hands are on deck at all times. That said, still prepare to spend some time waiting. Don't look at your watch, and do prepare a couple rounds of "Would You Rather" to play with your tablemates so you don't notice how long it's taking. One big thumb up for the Muzak - a classic rock mix heavy on the Stones, Steely Dan, Led Zeppelin and even The Who. (Who eats to The Who? People who don't know how to rock and spin their arm in windmill fashion, that's who.) But thumbs sideways for everything else. read more

This is one of my favorite places! I always love the chopped salad - no lettuce: corn, onion, celery, avocado, bacon, and pure deliciousness! I sub out the dressing with ranch and sometimes add grilled chicken. This is a simple and delightful meal and not too heavy! I haven't had a bad dish here. Time to update my review! Still a solid four stars. Ever since visiting a sushi house in Las Vegas last fall, I have been on the lookout for for Ahi Poke at local sushi houses. So I was really excited to see it on the menu at YH. I was a little bit apprehensive, I mean this isn't a sushi house, will I be setting myself up for disaster? Our server highly recommended it and since I was the only one in our party that would eat it, it was a pretty hefty serving for one person. I found it surprisingly good. It could have used more sesame oil (personal taste, because I LOVE sesame oil), but the presentation was pretty and the flavors were there. I also liked how its served with crispy won-tons. Yum! I did also try the Baja Fish tacos and they were good. (Not as great as the ones I've had in SoCal but of course, that was SoCal). The lemon siracha aoili was great--very nice flavor and added a bit of heat. The shredded cabbage was fresh and crispy. Service was stellar. Friendly, helpful. If you like beer... well, let's just say this is the UTOPIA of Beer Restaurants! You can order a "flight" of beer and tastings are all the rage. But I digress... I don't come here for the beer, I come here for the atmosphere and the food! Met up with friends last week to enjoy some good food and watch a little Olympic coverage on TV (of which there are multiples!!). Our server, Lauren, informed us that it was Appetizer Happy Hour, and showed us on the menu a number of appetizers that were 1/2 price until 6PM, Well, that is all we needed to know and the ordering began. We had about 6 or 7 different appetizers for the four of us. MooShu Egg Rolls were my absolute favorite! Blue Crab Cakes with mango papaya chutney, Hawaiian Poke Stack of raw ahi with crispy wontons, California Roll, Kung Pao Calamari with candied walnuts red peppers celery and carrots was served with jasmine rice. Just so much to enjoy and we certainly did! Our server was awesome and very attentive. Making sure that we were well taken care of and happy with our choices. We finished off with a mini trio sampler for dessert. Lemon Souffle, peach apple cobbler and a chocolate souffle. Can I just say, it was one of the best dessert samplers I've ever had... Confession: I kind of LOVE the suburbs. In fact, it's more than love... I kind of am OBSESSED with the suburbs. I have to refrain from jumping in my car and driving beyond the city limits most Saturday mornings and afternoons. When I give into cul de sac and strip mall temptation, however, I am always pleased when I find myself near the Yard House for dinner. Despite being in The Glen, which can be a bit overwhelmingly for even the biggest suburbiaphile, this spot has a cozy and warm feeling that is perfect for wintry months. The beer selection is fantastic, and the food is tasty. Burgers are always a solid choice, as are the steaks. (I'm a lady who likes cow, apparently.) Watch out for the onion rings--deadly delicious! If you're trying to eat dinner here, be sure to allow time in you schedule for a wait. In the meantime, vulture by the bar and snag a free seat when you can for another yummy brew. read more

One of those places that has been around for awhile that I had yet to get to - finally did it! Just for lunch though - no beers, so I still have that opportunity awaiting. My friend and I met up for one of our periodic pow-wows. He ordered an Ahi Tuna Salad and I opted for a Pepper Jack Burger. Both entrees were good. The tuna was grilled nicely on the outside with a raw/rare center. My burger came with a great tasting order of fries and a garlic/aoli sauce that had a lot of flavor. The burger was cooked as I specified and had a semi-hot chili pepper laid across it which complemented the flavor. Service was exactly what it should be - greeting at the door, follow up with menus on the table while I was waiting for my lunch sidekick, attentive service throughout our visit by our waiter David. We hadn't been here in about 8 years and were excited to be back! We always love coming to this Yard House when in the area. It's fun here and order the same thing: the Korean BBQ Beef app and a sweet tart martini. The Korean beef app is so flavorful, with sesame seeds and grilled to perfection. It's served along side spicy Asian rice and cooked greens, which really paired nicely together. They also have a huge variety of beers on tap. $3.25 for a glass of milk. So good it's printed on the little table menus under desserts. actually its iced cold milk for $3.25 before tax. You would hope this included a sneak peak at the milk wench's soft silky breast or at least a skin flick involving a milk maiden, a happy grass fed cow and some rubber gloves, but no. Not much fanfare or singing servers to gather around you as you are served your $3.25 glass of iced cold milk. You can always choose to skip the milk as some are lactose notlikey and save the $3.25 + tax for another enjoyable option at your local convenience store as this is certainly your prerogative. But if you order the fresh baked pan of brownie topped with a scoop of ice cream and don't order the milk...you just order failed. Its the equivalent of ordering salsa without chips, steak without sizzle, potatoes without mashed...etc. (and yes, I know this review is on the suck.;p) big huge place, beers on tap a plenty, but more of the safe and more generic popular kind, instead of the obscure once in a lifetime pours you would find if the beermaster were more of a geek with a better budget. I can say it is probably great "for the suburbs", but this argument is just the suck. anyways nobody drinks too much in the burbs because everybody drives in the burbs 'right'? the food, actually lets start with the menu. They Have EVERYTHING. at least it felt that way, many choices and most came out ok. looked better on the page and plate, but failed to deliver in the mouth, or in the tummy or in the soul. (please ease up on the ginger flakes covering up the salmon dish, maybe a little on top, but it really does not need to cover up the whole plate like a mound of bukake) I do prefer smaller menus, which help ensure larger budgets for better, fresher quality and more time to focus on tweaking recipes to higher RPM's, but being in the "burbs", with the bigbox store philosophy of something for everyone must apply here. I don't often find myself dining in suburban eateries. Certainly not in northern suburbs. Definitely not in Glenview. Last night was an exception, a la suburban friends of mine who offered to transport me from my cozy Lincoln Park home to ... well, Glenview. So my friends, their adorable mother (who recently had foot surgery - it's relevant) and I headed to Yard House. As we pulled up to the door to let my friends' mama out, some chick in her Lexus SUV behind us begins to honk. And honk and honk obnoxiously. I ignored this graciously. Until she power-rolled down her window just to yell into the bitterly cold night air, "You know, that's a REALLY stupid place to get out of a car!!" to which I reply, "ehhhh, get-ovah-yaself!!" Chick-in-Lexus looked as though I'd just slapped her, then scurried off wordlessly. "Huh!" I thought. "That's it?" My friends later informed me that, at least in Glenview, they're used to saying snarky comments but they're NOT used to getting a reply when they do. Whoopsie! Anyway, the whole thing kind of got my Yard House attitude off on the wrong foot. Thank goodness, the food and the staff were wonderful. Our server (Craig? Kyle? Fernando? one of those trendy, monosyllabic names...) was helpful, informative, and quick with our food and drinks without hovering (this, I like very much). We had the spinach dip (very good) but the korean beef appetizer stole the pre-dinner show by a landslide. Mmmm-MM! That beef was tender, full of flavour - fabulous! For dinner, I had the Blue Crab Cake Sandwich - it was a bit pricey but delicious. And the portions at Yard House are H.U.G.E. - so huge that I had to take half of my sandwich and fries home with me. Which reminds me - additional bonus: everything reheated very well and I didn't hate having a blue crab cake sandwich for dinner two nights in a row! :-D As many have already mentioned, Yard House's shining glory is their 100+ beers on draft. I love coming to the Glen, and sitting outside the Yardhouse and people watching. Some reviewer stated the Glen is a cookie cutter outlet mall setting. Couldn't be further from the truth. While it was a previous Naval base, it is an upscale neighborhood, and the stores are boutique style, not outlet. There is a Dicks and Carters, but rest are small mom & pop individual not chain, much less outlet stores. Now that, that is clear, the food... its pretty good. I like their burgers, each has some funky combination, like pineapple/mango salsa burger, the onion gorgonzola is my favorite. But seriously, the best is the tortilla soup. It has big chucks of chicken, fresh slices of avocado, and is rich and creamy. I sometimes just come for the soup, its that good. Service is hit or miss, and I've found it doesn't really even matter if the place is busy. On a Sat afternoon we came with a group of 6, the place was packed, service was attentive and quick. On a Sunday afternoon where it was half empty, we got our food relatively quickly, but drink refills or bill took about an hour. Made me want to get up and leave. If you are calling ahead to make a reservation, be very clear who is in your party. Once we came with a larger group, forgot to note that we had kids with us, they sat us right by the bar, and the whole time we had servers walking up the bar to get drinks and bumping and spilling a little on our kids. read more

Wow, what an awful experience. Came in on the Sunday of the 4th of July weekend to grab an early dinner with my family. We were promptly seated outside on their nice little patio and began selecting our beers from their extensive draft list. We had plenty of time to do this as our server did not come to check in for at least 10 minutes. When she did arrive, she looked as if she were either completely hungover or perhaps still drunk from the night before. Either way, her demeanor was awkward and abrupt. She came back with 4 beers for our group of 6 and saying that the other two were either out or in the process of switching kegs. Another 10 minutes go by, and she comes with 1 of the 2 missing beers. The final beer did not come for another 10 minutes without any apology. We ordered a ton of food, most of which was pretty mediocre. The onion ring tower was great. The chicken nachos were room temperature, despite the platter being incredibly hot. My burger was served on some sort of ciabatta roll that fell apart and stuck to my fingers as I was eating. Not appetizing. Server came one more time, and 2 of the 6 were able to order refills on our beer. The other four did not have the privilege. A few minutes later, the waitress dropped the check at the table while muttering something under her breath. She did then refill our water glasses for the first time, which I'm assuming was her last ditch attempt at salvaging a tip. The lousy service would not have been as insulting had she not spent the rest of the time sitting at the table across from us WITH TWO MANAGERS. That's right, the staff was hanging out on the deck while ignoring the customers, and the managers were encouraging this behavior by sitting with them. Totally unprofessional behavior for any restaurant staff, let alone manager. After an experience like this, I'll usually call the restaurant the next day to let the manager know of my less than great experience. However, as the managers were a part of the problem, they likely know just how poorly managed the restaurant is, and don't care to change. read more

House of a million beers. They proudly display all the kegs behind a window in this huge, yellowy-lit cooler room. I could look up and see all the lines leading to the monster tap monster behind the bar. It reminded me of the scary furnace in the basement in Home Alone, go watch it, you'll see what I mean. Beer is the thing here. As proof, the bartender made me a disgusting, watery Manhattan with big chunks of ice floating on top. Sad panda. Some delicious bourbon waited in barrels for years just to wind up in that travesty of a cocktail. Giant appetizers. It was around 10 p.m., just in time for late night happy hour, several appetizers were half price. We ordered a few items that included avocado, they were really generous with the avocado, love that. Since cocktails are a struggle, I decided to try a short glass of the house Belgian. It was fruity and malty and strong. It was enjoyable, I would have another. We got the popular trio for dessert. It was definitely three things. I liked them all equally. My dainty lady wife took one bite of each thing, then left me to devour them like a bear in a jam factory. Terrific. We've come to the Yard House quite a few times. It is a fun place, a little noisy, but it is a happening place. The food is hit or miss. The last few times the fish we have ordered has not been good at all. Last night the Tuna we ordered was not worth it, nor was the rice that came with it. read more

We've been threatening to go to dinner with our next door neighbors for months, so when they had a child-free Saturday night they asked us to do dinner and a movie. I assumed we'd be going somewhere in Evanston, but, they suggested The Glen (huh, the what?) and The Yardhouse for dinner. Based on some of the reviews here I was prepared to completely turn my nose up in snobbish disgust, but, well, if I'm being honest...it wasn't really that bad. In fact, it was downright enjoyable. We arrived before our friends, told the hostess we were waiting for the rest of our party, and she said she could either seat us right away or we could wait at the bar. First thumbs up of the night because I really detest it when a place won't seat you if the whole group isn't there. If you're drinking and maybe eating, what's the problem? The best thing about The Yardhouse is their great beer selection: they have everything from Belgian selections to microbreweries across the country. It was actually pretty surprising to see such a varied selection in, well, in Glenview. I went with a grape martini, and then a Gobstopper martini, which actually tasted just like the real thing. One dislike: there aren't prices listed for the beers and the martinis are all $10. When our friends arrived we ordered right away since we had a movie to catch. I had the Ahi Tuna (or something like that) Salad, and my husband had the Bearnaise Sliders; mini burgers topped with onion straws and Bearnaise sauce. Both were delicious; the salad was fresh, crisp, and the tuna was cooked perfectly, and the ginger dressing wasn't at all overpowering. The sliders were really really good, and the Bearnaise sauce was perfect. I don't usually like sliders anywhere other than White Castle because they tend to be overcooked and mealy, but these were a nice suprise. The sliders came with a huge portion of fries, so it makes a nice dish to share. Was it a top notch fine dining experience? No, but it was an enjoyable and tasty meal for a Saturday dinner & a movie date. Why only 3 stars? The food was good, nothing wrong with it, and the drinks and beer selection were great, but, it's a little overpriced for what it is. They do have happy hour appetizer deals, but overall I think they charge a bit too much for "bar & grill" food. And, they don't list beer prices on the menu, which I never like. We'll definitely go back, but it won't be at the top of our rotation. read more

Yard House is often times a go to for my family and friends. They have a wide variety of alcohol and food selection. Over a 100 beers on tap. I have ordered everything here over the past seven years. Pizza (good), burgers (juicy and a nice variety), other entrees (Orange chicken, country friend chicken, and the jambalaya are among my favorites), steaks, salads (large enough to fill me and my mom), and desserts. Great atmosphere & ambiance. Good customer service. They do not take reservations but have a call-ahead list they can put you on. Happy hour selections (as well as late-night happy hour) are good as well, but much more limited than the full menu. read more
