Given our experience then, I feel confident saying that the Naturfreundehaus in Schweinfurt made our favorite Käsespätzle. The spätzle was perfect in size, shape, and texture and flavorful entirely on its own. However, the addition of käse and perfectly cooked onions (and bacon for the mister) made this dish utterly fantastic. It remains a family favorite, thanks in huge part to this location. The menu was expansive, and during the summer months it was always lovely to sit in the biergarten and enjoy fresh food and refreshing brews. It came with meatballs, skewers, lamb chops, gyro, pork, and calamari as he meats. The "sides" we're fries, rice, tzaziki, tomato, onion and feta. It also came with a "farmers salad", which was tomatoes, onions, cucumbers and feta drizzled with olive oil. It was delicious. After, we were offered a shot of ouzo, on the house. It is a quiet place (we went at lunch, but there were a few others in there), and it shares are wall (with a wall length window) with a horse dressage ring, so you can watch the horses if they are in there. They also have seating outside, which looks into a jump course. It is also next door to axe, so that's a plus for those who want a nice lunch from work. The prices were decent for what we got (a ton of food!). It was 30 € for the meal for 2 that we chose, plus about 2,50€ for the drinks (a mineral water and a tea). From what I recall, their entrees were about 11€ each.

Unfortunately, a half empty restaurant with plenty of open tables turned me and my wife away, because they claimed we needed a reservation. Their loss we were happily welcomed at The Ross!
