I had the "los locos" which is a Chilean dish of tenderized abalone served with sauce and mayo. You won't find anything like it back home in los estados unidos, so order some and feel cultured. I also suggest the razor clams, which are clams baked with an alarming amount of parmesan cheese on top. Pair your food with a coffee or an obnoxiously affordable white wine from the Casablanca region of Chile and your seaside culinary adventure is complete.

Luckily, the food and service add even more to the experience. We started with the tuna ceviche, which was absolutely gorgeous, fresh, bright, and perfectly balanced. Easily the highlight of the meal. For the main course, the catch of the day was swordfish. While the flavor was good, the fish itself was a bit tough, so I wouldn't strongly recommend it. However, the sides it came with were exceptional: the potatoes were comforting and well seasoned, and the mushroom risotto was rich, creamy, and incredibly satisfying. Easily one of the best things on the plate. The service was great, friendly and attentive without being intrusive, and the overall atmosphere is relaxed yet stylish. If you're in Valparaíso and want a meal with a view, Restaurant Fauna is a wonderful choice, especially for the ceviche and that unforgettable risotto.
